I am firing my sculptures in a kiln.
In order to do that, I must be able to remove the finished work from armature and hollow it. I am going to show this process in my next video.
I start building a clay form on a rod or pipe covered with newspaper. Paper absorbs the moisture from the clay which speeds up the drying process and makes the clay firm.
You have to do the initial sculpting slowly to allow the clay to become firm. If the clay is too wet it will slump down.

I was consumed in sculpting videos last winter and decided to try this. I cant express how much fun it was. Once the basic layout/proportions were set it was a face looking back at me. We are highly tuned to read facial characteristics & expressions. A new experience for me. Being able to create it! 2 full head and shoulders sculptures, 1 without ears... :) I really love the way they came out. Thankyou for enhancing my education :)

Is it possible to do something like this without a kiln? with the self hardening clay?
I never use self hardening clay . I guess that you would be able to make nice sculpture out of it but you have to work very fast and on smaller project. Self hardening clay has different quality and is more difficult to work with,
I am new to sculpting and I have one burning question. Do you leave the armature in the bust when you fire/bake the clay, or do you have to remove it?

Can we work more days on same figure, how many days it will take for drying
If you want to work on your sculpture for long time, you have to spray it with water from time to time and cover it in plastic ( airtight) between sculpting sessions.

What brand of clay are you using?
Hello! that's a lovely face. I just have one question: how many hours do you sculpt for day?
Everything depends on my mood.
I like sculpting so usually 6 hours.

Terracotta clay is water based clay that is fired at low temperature in the kiln.
You can buy it in a pottery supply stores , craft and sculpture supply stores.
