We see a human being that is extremely exhausted, but is still entertaining us non stop, without stopping. I love him so much! But he seriously should have stopped the performance, he was killing himself absolutely. God bless Michael for all his hard work.
I think this is part of the reason he decided to lip sync on the history tour the next month.
***** It was around 2 months not that big of a difference.
***** Well this was a free concert so I doubt that he was paid Millions of dollars and let's not forget that this was now a middle aged Michael Jackson who's body forced him to lip sync more compared to his prime a decade ago.
***** The Royal Brunei show was a free concert, I'm not saying he wasn't paid for it but I doubt it was millions because the show was free.
***** What other kind of free is there? Of course he got paid for it but I doubt it was millions of dollars.
There will never ever be another Michael Jackson

This is probably the last time he sang Billie Jean 100% live. And I can understand that, after seeing him being exhausted like that.
he had problems with his vocal cords on the history tour or something like that.
+MrDerOutsider and he was on his 1,000 show
I don't think he was exhausted, he sweated because of the hot temperature. Don't forget Brunei have an humid equatorial climate. In fact, he sweats all long the concert. And on the brunei's history concert it's the same thing. He has less make-up too for this concert. Because if he was really tired, he wouldn't have done these technical moves at moments he has to sing in the same time. And he would have sing less during the chorus for example.
The T-10 It was the last time he sang it live
Cohen Hamilton What about This is it?
4:30 so powerful!!!!
I know this is nothing new but tbh, I think we're really lucky to have this performance in Pro footage and HD quality. It's basically HIStory Tour Billie Jean but with fully live vocals. Truly a one-of-a kind. And I absolutely love how he sang the high "me" in "people always told me" (something which he never did in the Dangerous Tour).
@P Sung Finally someone noticed and appreciated that! He never really did the high "me" in any of the tours: Victory, Bad or Dangerous (History doesn't even count with the playback).
In my opinion, the best part of this song is the pre-chorus and that high note there is the bread and butter of the ascent towards the chorus. His dancing and performing had always been on point during his live Billie Jean, but I was always missing that high "me" in "people always told me".
When you look at previous tours and previous performances, you start to see a pattern of the tempo getting lower and lower as time passed on most of the songs (more obvious in WBSS), but I feel like for some reason, Billie Jean was one of the more refined performances as he dropped the tempo. It feels like his moves are more precise, cleaner and overall classier.
That's why I think this might simply be MJ's BEST EVER live performance of Billie Jean (vocals + dancing combined).

For the Billie Jean last performance live, this is truly epic. Vocals is so clean and dance is very smooth. Maybe so much better than the later History tour performances. MJ Forever and ever

Funfact: this concert was fully sponsored by His Majesty of brunei darusalam ($27mil) for his 50th birthday celebration, which means it's a free concert.
0:47 HIS EXPRESSION (he liked in bad era!)
Exactly. It changes the make-up a lot, including what is used to make it. Spreading vitiligo did a lot too. Here you can see that he's just older and that's it. It's fun to watch how the movie for "Stranger In Moscow" was made. There, Michael "loses" his make-up and there is a big difference in how he looks in the "video" and after being completely soaked.
singing and dancing in one of the hottest countries around who cares if his voice was a little out of tune that's without all the audio technology we have today he did way better than any of today's performers by far

@BugiBow#60 yes. Tour prep for his HIStory Tour were pretty much going along nicely and Jackson had enough time to conserve his voice for that night. By far his last great concert.
Yeah because billie Jean is normally one of the last songs of the concert
@@gamer-_-games3555 Normally Billie Jean is in the middle of the set list. The only time he did it near the end was the Victory Tour.

But i like this bille jean live compare with another live history..
*_4:39_**_ He sounds exactly like the studio version because he never used autotune in his life_*
Cause autotune wasn't a thing just yet
Autotune isn’t the devil loool it’s bad if ppl use it to smooth out their voice or give a false impression that they can actually sing, but every musical artist uses it to perfect how the song sounds, we think the world of Michael but he’d hate himself if a song went out w a key or a tune or a chord in the wrong place instead of auto tuning it
MJJ4K oh no lol I know that if you reply to a comment all the other replies get a notif but I was responding to OP, you’re right though
Thomas he used playback quite often not auto tune. Dancing while singing is extremely difficult which is why he did it
Thomas it’s called playback

0:17 I Love That Sound Of The Bass Or What Ever That Low Instrument Is
Piano, you can tune ir ro make ir sound lile that
Yes, Bass
The bass sound comes from the band's bassist synthesizer, billie jean's bass is already programmed on it, so he presses a key and the bass line starts playing, but he has to repeat the key press for the line to restart.

Despite sweating his posterior off, he looks really handsome here!
I agree, Michael looks very handsome here, even when he's sweating so much. Less makeup and you can immediately see how handsome he was/ is.
This is one of the best live performances of Billie Jean IMO.
in my country too 😱
I disagree
@M7keSonic I get how huge Mowtown 25 was. I know how much that music and that brand has inspired others. The first ever moonwalk. I get it, but I like this performance because although he was much older by this point and started getting sick, he still gave it his all and sang live and not lipsync.
@@PaulJackson729 I'm not talking about Motown 25, despite that being a better performance than this one, I was talking about many other Billie Jean performances being better than Royal Brunei, heck, the best Billie Jean performances happen to take place after this show
@M7keSonic Most of those he was lip syncing and not singing live. I know for some that doesn't matter quite as much but it matters to me.
How the hell can he turn even without moving his feet? He is the god of dance and music
junior valenxia basically he's spinning on 1 point.

One thing I love about the royal brunei concert is how calm and formal the audience is, like when the guy in the seat catches Michael's hat at 7:30 , they don't all surround him and try grabbing the hat themselves or from him, they just look and start clapping for him once he picks it up.
Oh, and the guy in the audience putting it on and tipping it was amazing too.

Without a doubt the best Bille Jean performance on Michael Jacksons HIStory World Tour vocally.
This isn't part of the HIStory Tour, and if it was, it wouldn't be the best
This concert was practically a History tour concert but without all the playback and stiff moonwalks, he seems tired here though, but that makes sense since it's a very hot country and there was a lot of smoke on the stage making it hard to breathe, especially when it's a 2 hour long concert full of live singing and dancing, even with all of that MJ was still capable of performing amazingly here, incredible vocals and dance moves
edit: yeah no my opinion on this performance has drastically changed

He's got a lot of great ones, but good lord this one is CLEAN.
Edit: Seoul 1999's after the robot is INSANE though. Not sure this one beats that. It's like his upper body's on a gimbal, just completely still, and his feet are gliding so smoothly and cleanly. It's a marvel of human movement. Also, it's a rare left to right moonwalk.

This was the last time he ever sung this live (excluding This is It) Probably sang the best here as well. HIStory warm up here, saying goodbye to Dangerous, the best tour ✌
He just oozes presence. Truly one of the best.
He’s the one who can sing & perform that’s why is king of all times
i really hope if he was Steel alive
The whole idea of him lip syncing the entire tour due to illness is kinda outrageous if you ask me. Even when he was sick, he still sang a lot of the songs live, and by the time he was well again, he didn't sing any of the other songs live. Throughout the years, he sang less and less, and it's simply because he got older, and there is nothing wrong with that at all, especially when he was able to dance like a professional and sing at the same time.
***** But at his age singing high notes isn't the easiest thing.... You are not alone is a high pitch song.
***** He had laryngitis during SOME PARTS of the tour, but in my opinion I believe it was more like an OCD sorta thing he had with perfection. A playback voice sounds more "perfect". He only sung live the things that he didn't bother re-recording eg WBSS and J5 Medley. The only thing he re-recorded was Janet's verses in Scream.
Frank Lin The thing is, people don't want to admit that as he got older, his singing got worse when he performed live. Just look at the Brunei concert in 1996 just before the History tour.. He seemed so fatigued and his singing wasn't great at all.
Josh Ochs this is the royal Brunei concert in 96 and he sounded great to me, he didn't sound as good as he used to and seemed like he was fatigued but he still sounded good. I would much rather hear a Live Michael that doesn't sound perfect then a playback voice. I loved Michaels live voice including his imperfections.
83jdc1 You misunderstand me. I totally agree with you on preferring to hear him sing live no matter what, it makes the performance so much more magical. I'm just trying to defend him lip syncing, simply because most of his performances in the earlier days did not feature him lip syncing unless if it was an encore performance or it was really hard song to sing and dance to at the same time, like Smooth Criminal.
Hes so tired. At 1:25 he doesnt even do the kick hes ao exhausted..
He already kicked before that part so he doesn't usually kick at that part
This is such an interesting performance of Billie Jean. It’s the first time and only time he performs the song with fully live vocals closer to the original pace of the song.
And he was singing it under the playback to sync his mouth with the song.

By the way, the audioquality is breathtaking. Sounds natural and pure on my Sennheiser 363D in 5.1 Dolby. First time I hear it in "real" sorround. The new editing really gets the best out of that show. Do you have some uncompressed audioexamples of this concert? I don't want the whole show, just some examples to get a feel of it if I was one of the visitors. The new videoediting doesn't seem to be that better, the close ups are a bit more crisp.
