There is no performance of Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony that has such incredible sound, quality, artistry and even something that cannot be described; than this version of Celibidache.
I'm sorry, but in my humble opinion, this has to be the best symphony ever written. Everytime I hear this symphony and especially this movement, I got shivers all over my body. I can hear this all day long.
Jesse Reith I really just don’t understand its unpopularity. There’s more emotion in the whole symphony than in any other piece I’ve ever heard, though of course I haven’t heard everything.
Brilliant performance, wonderfully conducted. but could I also give a shout-out to the person who mixed the sound? It's absolutely excellent - just like sitting in the best seats in the house. Couldn't be bettered.
As in life, relishing every note, relishing every line, relishing every individual, relishing every moment! Thank God for RUclips!

gotta love that timpanist...he brings such a life to the exposition of the movement it's always great to see celibidache perform a rhythmic piece and them screw with it...he is still one of the most underrated conductors of the 20th century which is disappointing...
No comment!!! The best musician of the 20th century !!! Please , don't even attempt to mention Kleiber, Karajan, Klemperer , etc.. and so forth... Different league. I have no doubt what's so ever Celibidache is sitting with Bruckner , Bach ...in the Eternal's heaven.
Fantastic interpretation. I like a little faster starting tempo, but the contrasts of the tempos and emotions between the formal sections is great. Well played also. Love Celibidache.
Tthought you are right but at noting 'new to me' notes at 7:54 and 11:10 I see they are smudged at other performances. At 4th mov there is latent danger of unrestrained gallop but Celibidache and MPO know how to balance perfectly clarity and temperament. Fast and slow parts are at balanced, too. Never heard such great 4th mov performed in a really new and magnificent manner. Btw: hear "the wind sweeping across the steppes" but hear gentle wind rustling through the grass at slower parts, too. :)
it's amazing! I haven't loved this symphony since I heard it. Because I felt that this music is cheap. But celibidache's this symphony is incredible! He is the best tchaikovsky's conductor!
Loved this version, though I think I prefer Bernstein's efforts. Tchaikovsky's "endings" (this, the last movement of the 4th and the 3rd movement of the 6th) always leave me feeling shell shocked (in a good way) by the last bar. I don't think any other composer knew how to ramp up the tension, the exuberance and the sheer unabashed joy, in places, as *he* did. Some nice camera shots here and some lovely solid Timp playing.
Levine is the spalla? Of what? Or maybe he is the cold shoulder you're referring to--to which everyone who reached the level of music with Celibidache turned away from. Celibidache has brought audiences, orchestras to different dimensions of sound , a higher level...his inner cosmos and sound he got out of the orchestras he conducted made music possible. But you out there with Levine, Karajan, Ozawa( who didn't and don't have a clue about what Celibidache did throughout his musical life ... Or
Celibidache makes all a triumphal march, but his clever is in the conservation of the expression. His conducting way is mistaken, too accented, but is good the usage of the eyes and the face.

Celibidache insuperabile. Orchestra grandiosa.
This is the best rendition of the Tchaik 5's finale. I love how Celibidache doesn't rush the presto, as many conductors will do.
YES! YES! YES!!
Brilliant performance, wonderfully conducted. but could I also give a shout-out to the person who mixed the sound? It's absolutely excellent - just like sitting in the best seats in the house. Couldn't be bettered.
Celibidache insuperabile

Absolutely beautiful! Tchaikovsky certainly knows how to pull at those heart strings and bring tears of joy with this movement!
Always fighting with tears when listening on this masterpiece of music...i am just loving it!
As a timpanist myself, I live for that climactic moment in the fourth movement when I get to thunder away, guns blazing.

Check this out; especially the timpani before coda
This is why I love Tchaikovsky.

Celibidache makes it greater than it is.
Was 3 when this happened. Glad I can enjoy it now for free. Thank you internet!
was minus 12.

My life for this music.

Super!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻⚘💐💐💐 Love Celibidache❤
We can understand the music infinitely more with Maestro Sergio......
Yeah, Bernstein and Celibidache took from brass all breath...👏👏👏
CELY, THE BEST......10 class over karayan.....
No.
tears of joy with this movement!
Maestro Celibidache
You see??? No partitur!!! All the music is in his head!
Fantastic interpretation. I like a little faster starting tempo, but the contrasts of the tempos and emotions between the formal sections is great. Well played also. Love Celibidache.
what paste and clarity!! Celi was the man...
Alles was Celi dirigiert ist fenomenal!
Oh, I have heard it live. It was magnificent, although Celi was much older then (two years before his death, IIRC).
Oh my god, this is amazing.

Great performance! Thanks.
dear Mr. Longkou sir: you are so right
it's amazing!
I haven't loved this symphony since I heard it.
Because I felt that this music is cheap.
But celibidache's this symphony is incredible!
He is the best tchaikovsky's conductor!
Your mind is cheap.
I've always thought of T's symphonies as #4 for musicians, #6 for the critics, and #5 for the public.
Fantastic!
The best version!!!
mravinsky's reocrding is amazing, but this interpretation is unbeatable. wow, that clarity.
12:46 Genial forma de dirigir los trombones
Épico y hasta jocoso jeje
the most awesome part!i love it !
10:37 - 12:36 I love that theme :3
So good...
@rachmi4u You can find the symphonies in CD, most of Celibidaches works were published under the EMI label.
un clásico de tchaikosvky

Some nice camera shots here and some lovely solid Timp playing.

Braaaaaavo!!
Celi en su plenitud.

Best moment at 8:09 to 8:25
Thank you for uploading this. I love it.
Could somebody please tell me who the timpanist is ?

at 12:45 it looks like he is milking two cows! :-D

and the position in the space, of course, that camed from his studies in the musical phenomenology
Boring performance.
