There are people who will say different and that's fine, if they have a pattern, follow it. But this is the most common method used for yarn doubling 😊
It's so helpful. I am one that learned from my Nana. So being able to learn new things from you instead of trying to read frustrating crochet books. Priceless
Hi Crystal! When I started watching you a couple years ago, I did not even know yarn had a weight class. I've been crocheting for over 50 years. I've learned more from you in just a couple years than I know what to do with! Adding this to my brain. Thanks, Crystal, for sharing! 💝
If you've been crocheting that long, I'm sure you're giggling over how, crochet is in all the shops again. How many times have you passed something, sniffed and said. I can do and have done better than that. Mind you the prices are absurdly low in the shops for it.
Well,I learned knitting and crocheting when I was 6 year old,so it is about 50 years ago. Maybe for some my knowledge will be usefull,so Id like to share it with you.Never used yarn weight categories, because you dont needed it. All you need is to choose correct hook or knitting needles sizes for your yarn and this is very little to do with weight category. Why? Because every yarn manufacturer wants to sell more. If you want to sell more, you need to force people to use more yarn. How to do this? Simple,by using huge hooks for a thinner yarns. Hook sizes shown on the yarn packs are very maximum you are able to use. After chrochetting by their recommendations you will be scared to put your knitted scarf or blanket on the line to dry, because will receive double sized one. This is why they say 'lay flat' Why? Because yarn is 'separate ' in your work and has no support from each other. If you want to choose correctly which hook you need to use, remember, that yarn must be bigger than hook curvature. Old school teachers says twice bigger, but I say the same or a bit bigger up to twice as hook's curvature is. Again,it all depends on how tight your knitting or crocheting is. My work is very loose,so for a regular acrylics Im using hook size 3.5 or 4mm,depending on what result I want to achieve. If for a bag, would be size 3mm,because it must be done very tight. I know people using size 5 or even 6mm,as it says on the packs, but then you have problems with after care of your creations and must wash and dry it as mohair sweaters,- flat. For a knitting needles you must do a hole in the piece of paper with your needle and yarn must go through that hole nicely, not tight, not by leaving gap around- match the size of your needle diameter. This is not apply for a fancy yarns, because how to use those is up to you. As long as I know composition and weight ( some people use length) of yarn,Im happy and wouldnt ask more from any manufacturer. But it is just me :) Happy creations, girls!
I knew this before from YOU , my precious Teacher Crystal, and watching this felt like it is my first time learning about it. I can't thank you enough Crystal🤟👸🐰🐇💐❤
