    I never use Fram but I like to see how any used filter worked out.

    the conclusion of this video is most people do a poor job at maintaining their vehicles, Thanks Bill for keeping us entertained. the PH 3897 has no anti-drain back valve, according to Fram.

      Thanks Bud for that information, and yes I don't think any of my oil filters would ever look like these. Well there was my sister's oil filter but that's not vehicle.😉

    I thought I had the engine in my Ram 5.7 going bad. I thought it sounded like cam/lifters.
    I heard the noise, drove home & parked the truck. After a week, I decided to change the oil, switch to stnthetic & see/hear what I could.
    When I removed the filter, the nipple came with it. Never happened before.
    I got 2 nuts, removed it & the inside of the nipple had some weird stiff inside it - flakes of some crap.
    I decided to stick my fingers into the oil pump and fish around. Used a magnetic tool, discovered it was metal.
    I thought was bearing material making it's way into the pump etc.
    I decided to cut the filter open like this... & discovered the filter had delaminated internally.
    I always bought Napa Gold filters, they have been awesome. But these ones I bought on amazon - I think I got Chinese knock-offs.
    The filter was punched out with laminated sheet metal. BEWARE !!!
    So... I scavenged the oil out again, changed it again, fired the truck up amd it hasn't made a noise since. Been driving for a few weeks now.
    It must have caused intermittent oil starvation or something...
    The weirdest thing to happen in awhile.

      That does sound like oil starvation, smart of you to investigate. Lots of those knockoffs on Amazon, hard not to buy from Amazon though since they usually are cheaper.

    I have 444,000 miles on my "84 Crown Vic, 485,000 miles on my '82 F150, 544,000 miles on my '
    93 Dodge D250, 320,000 miles on my '96 Crown Vic. None of these engines burn any oil yet. I change my engine oil every 5, 000 miles. I buy any oil filter that's on sale. A lot of them are Fram. Change your oil and filter regularly and don't over heat the engine. Engines can last a long time.

      You are so right, the key to a long lasting engine is change the oil and filter regularly. Thanks.

      Think there's some funny things at Fram but never expected there to be no adbv, that's a shocker. I have never opened up a filter where that was missed. Not a big deal if filter is on upside down but still interesting.

    • @faxmen09
      @faxmen09 Месяц назад

      The PH9837 has no adbv because it matches the OEM filter, which also has no adbv. Look it up on the Fram site and it says adbv, No. So nothing out of line with the filter. Some manufacturers add an adbv regardless, because it doesn't hurt. But, not required.

    The "feel" of the cut test is meaningless if you don't note the type of filter media, whether it's cellulose, mixed fiber, or synthetic. Likewise "soft" is not necessarily a bad thing because filters have an inner cylindrical frame that keeps the media from collapsing.

    LoL no grit and no sparkle is not an indicator of "a good job". It just means that engine was healthy enough. But otherwise it is the filter's responsibility to catch the junk, and finding the junk is not a problem with the filter.

    • @crazybillsgarage
      @crazybillsgarage  Месяц назад

      Catching the junk and efficiently still working well is it's main job.

    Is That Certified filter a jobber filter ? Sold to repair shops to hit a certain price point. Could be comparable to a Napa Pro Select.

      Certified is a Canadian tire brand which is sold on the shelf, it is there cheapest filter.

      Was there a conclusion, I guess about 50% of these oil changes should of been accomplished earlier.
