    The "solder GOD" has blessed us again with another step by step that only 1% of his viewers can do themselves.....lol I've been doing a few recaps on old consoles and computers and used your amazing techniques to get a clean and solid connection for all of my solder points. Thank you for sharing these amazing videos Voultar..! 💪🏽🧑🏽

      Only 1% can do this level of solder? How do you figure? Seems pretty mundane to me. Sure, there's quite a bit of work involved, but nothing super tricky. More tedious than anything. Soldering is super easy if you remember a couple things. First, use a great soldering iron. Don't use a $5 one from Harbor Freight, Walmart, etc. If you do, you'll have trouble with uneven heat, getting too hot (or not hot enough), or the tip simple evaporating/falling apart. Second, use the best solder money can buy. If you don't you'll have trouble melting the solder, or having it stick properly, corrosion will happen instantly, etc etc etc. And the bonus tip is this: Make sure the thing you're trying to solder too is equally hot. This is how/why the solder looks like it sucks right to the pad or contact. If it's not hot enough, you'll have trouble with the solder wanting to stay on it or be 'attracted' to it. When I first started soldering I used subpar equipment and always thought I sucked. Then I finally broke down and splurged and it was like I became a professional overnight.

      It's all about the right amount of flux and lead solder. The bigger the gob, the better the job.
      No joke, though. Flux is what helps your solder stay workable instead of oxidizing and resisting your attempts to melt it.

    All that ribbon cable will increase lag since the electrons will have more reality to move though. And it takes electrons more time to move through that extra reality. Maybe some day in the future reality won't be an issue.

    The makers of the GBA Consolizer just changed their design which makes installation significantly harder now. The soldering went from an intermediate level to a very advanced level. Keep this in mind if you are thinking about ordering one because most of the build videos online now don't show the new process.

      look for a signal converter from hdmi to scart rgb it does not cost much

    • @knigfotlets9870
      @knigfotlets9870 5 лет назад +1

      @@davidegalliussi1979 heavily depends on the CRT he wants to connect it to. If it doesn't support 720p, like every consumer CRT, you'd have to downscale the image. Using a cheap converter for downscaling would probably result in the same or worse image than the RGB Innovation mod which only costs a third of the GBA Consolizer. In fact it's a waste of money using this mod to play on a CRT. The best way to play GBA on a CRT is getting a GameCube, a Gameboy Player and use GBI to enforce 240p, the Wii U would also be an option if one is ready to softmod it and is ready to give up some games because of compatibility issues and fully give up the ability put the games into a GBA to play on the go.
      From a cost standpoint this mod is IMO way too expensive anyway. For that money you can almost get a Gamecube+Gameboy Player and an OSSC. And there are a lot of benefits like, you don't have any wait times, since the OSSC is widely available, as is the Gamecube. You also don't need to solder if you don't want to and if you do want to, you can fully assemble an OSSC yourself. You also have the ability to connect a whole lot of other consoles to the OSSC to get proper upscaling for any analog console on any modern TV or monitor you have.
      This mod is just for enthusiasts who want the best possible picture from the GBA for their modern TVs and with that I mean modern TVs only!
      If it would provide different resolutions and maybe a proper DAC for outputting RGB this would be another story. But from the product page I can't read anything about different resolutions.
      Still, the work Woozle put into this is amazing and he deserves every penny people pay for this.

    I got my GBA Consolizer in the mail a couple weeks ago. I was pretty stoked, but in my haste I botched the installation. Couldn't fully remove the oscillator and I wound up lifting a couple pads. It worked briefly but somehow I toasted the video output while reassembling the casing! I hooked the old screen back up to test it, and sure enough it was displaying garbage vertical lines. No idea how I managed that, but I wasn't happy with the work I'd done anyway.
    Unfortunately I did need to source another GBA, but this morning I redeemed myself. I bought a hot air rework station after my initial failure, and this time around getting the oscillator out was probably the easiest part of the job. Also plotted out my wiring a lot better and slathered plenty of flux all over those solder pads, I did it up right this time! At last I have a fully installed GBA Consolizer and it works perfectly. Time to start a new run through Golden Sun in style, I've been waiting so long for this.

Seems they are being a bit cheap tho and are waiting for a huge amount of ppl to Preorder so they can order in bulk and get the parts as cheap as possible, making those who have already preordered have to wait. Wish they wouldn't do that but what can ya do? At this rate it will probably be another year before people start receiving their Preorders from this latest batch which is a real shame. Seems they do this with all of the custom stuff as it takes an extremely long time for anything to get shipped. I think they should think about the customers a bit more and place the orders sooner.

    I think it's perfectly fine that the connector dosen't come pre-soldered to the board. If whoever buys the kit can handle soldering the wires between the GBA board and the kit board, they can surely handle soldering in a large thru-hole connector. I mean, the soldering iron is already out anyway...

    I'm still fairly new to soldering. What's all over your board that's making it look wet while you're working?

    Hey @Voultar,
    Is there any kind of wires you can recommend for doing this? I already tried KYNAR and some cheap Wire Wrapping Wire from Amazon, but either the insolation melted away (cheap wire) or it was nearly impossible to remove it without breaking the wire(Kynar).

    If you like this mod you should check out Alex at inside gadgets advancevga mod. It uses the original gba shell and outputs vga. The coolest part is that he added his wireless rx as an option so you can use his wireless gba carts to control it with a second gba or nds.

    I think I have the perfect GBA for this, a sun bleached GBA that I think it was ether Atomic Purple or Glacier Blue (not sure anymore) found on eBay for $10 plus shipping.

    You appear to have used some sort of adhesive to effectively make the orange wires into a sort of custom ribbon cable. What was used to bond these wires' shielding together like this?

    Hi! Just wondering is there a revision guide on the new kit with the flex cable? I really can‘t see ANYTHING on the GameTechs Video. No Zoom-Ins, Pictures … Nothing. I‘ve already ordered it but i am still waiting for someone who actually knows what they are doing to show that new kit off

    What would be a good replacement for that plexiglass? I'm thinking a bit pricey tempered glass, plywood or just a plain 3D print full cover. Nice idea putting a rgb ribbon in there too.

  • @nrdesign1991
    @nrdesign1991 5 лет назад +1

    Probably someone went around the plexiglas' edges with alcohol. Something you should not do, as it creeps into it, and creates those tiny fractures.

    Looks like there is space in there for some batteries. Would be cool to drive a small screen with it so it is like one of those neo-geo-mini or snes-mini consoles. So as to connect to a emulating PC (e.g. multplayer), a GBA wifi dongle (like the old pokemon ones) would be cool to attach to it. Then various screen capture could be done for a Lets Play.

    I wonder if in some revision of the case they will add some support on the controller port on the case. I have a couple SNES to USB controllers adapters, that uses the same quality connector, that loves to grab to the controller, and it also doesn't have support on the case, on both it ended breaking the solder joint and the pad.
