    Anhydrous ammonia is a pressurized liquid. It becomes a gas when introduced into the soil. It will then turn back to a liquid by the soil water and is held by soil OM and soil aggregates.

    We were done applying NH3 last week during Spring Break and my bosses used a John Deere 9220 to pull a Wako applicator that I believe was 41 foot long and it had 15 inch spacing on it. I believe they were applying around 105 to 110 lbs/ac, and they are applying that much to plant dryland corn.
    Edit: They also spread fertilizer on wheat that they were pasturing off for the cows, and a small patch a little under 10 acres and they used a John Deere 4430 with a Koyker front loader to pull a Willmar Super 500 that they rented from the Farmer's Coop in Conway Springs, KS. That's also where they got their NH3 tanks they used to apply NH3.

  • @lukebaumgartner1747
    @lukebaumgartner1747 2 года назад

    I like the concept of this tool bar, I really do, but man does the maintenance of it suck compared to a knife style NH3 bar. So many grease zerks, and the process to change the shoe next to the opener is a lengthy process and they don’t last long. Co-op I work for has 2, one 15 knife and one I believe is a 25 knife. Both for our custom anhydrous. They do a fantastic job once set right and are great for no-till, but they just are more complicated to maintain. We getting rid of the 25 knife to go to John Deere’s new knife style bar but keeping the smaller one for farmers who prefer it. It just gets to be a chore to replace the wear parts 3-4 times a season on both bars. Wouldn’t be an issue for farms applying less than 3-4K acres.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  2 года назад

      The big thing for the farm in this video is rocky ground. There was allot of stopping to replace shear boldts with a knife bar. The 2510H just glides across the field. The thick straw is the other nice thing for them with the single disk unit. Maintenance is definitely a trade off but at least it’s in the shop and not multiple times a day in the field with shear bolt replacements.

    • @lukebaumgartner1747
      @lukebaumgartner1747 2 года назад

      @@bigtractorpower very true. The straw especially for them I imagine this bar does better even than a knife with a disk blade in front. I’m in NE Iowa so quite different soil than Kentucky. Still surprising the amount of bolts we’ve sheared on this style bar. The newer Deere knife unit has much stronger shear bolts so we are excited to see how they perform.
