  • In this video we take a standard PS1 console and modify it with a MM3 Modchip. We show the process involved in carrying out the mod and how to strip down the console.
We then put it all back together again and make sure it does what we want it to do.
This console was purchased as an untested unit, So first we need to make sure it works ok.......

Same here! I had a neighbor that had every gaming console imaginable. He told me that if I purchased the new PS1, he could mod it to play any game that I wanted. He would make games for me for $10. 13 year old me thought he was some kind of wizard 😂

I was chipping PSX's back then, it changed over time and different motherboards revisions came along, most mod chips were just programmed pic controllers as well and later on, Sony didn't bother with a heat shield.

Question, I'm kind of slow. How do you know what the correct soldering points are when you are installing the chip?

    • @retfurb
      @retfurb  Месяц назад +2

If the chip doesn’t come with a wiring diagram, then they can be found searching online.
I found the one for my specific chip online.

      No worries.
If you google mm3 PlayStation 1 modchip, you will find images with solder points.
      Hopefully this helps.

@@MellowManilla to be honest I am not sure. I don’t know if they solder in the same points as the mm3.

This is really cool but i always asked myself if the classic swap metod is so bad for the console health to justify this type of mod, i mean, this is clearly an easier way to play backups but the classic method also works.

I have a PS1 in my loft which I modded to play backup discs which must be getting on for 30 years ago. Unfortunately I can’t remember a thing about doing it and your video didn’t remind me of it either. I’m worried now I’m going senile. I definitely had the skills to do it then as I was a computer hardware engineer.
I’ve also got my Amiga and an Amstrad 1512 stored up there, or was it a 1640? I can’t remember now, the one with the EGA display. Oh blimey, I’m getting old now.

Hello sir, I'm allowed to ask about the PS1 which has mods in your video, whether installing the modchip for PS1 in your video requires an application program for programming a modchip which is used to run a game that you will burn, or it doesn't need to be ready to use straight away. to burn a cassette???
I saw the same tutorial as yours on Mr Mario's RUclips channel. but in the video there is using an application to program the PS1 modchip, do you use that method and I have a video link for the channel on mr mario :
    ruclips.net/video/UM_Vyg-5QN4/видео.htmlsi=hjjsNzN7cl1vfato
So this is a link sources videos
because I have an original PS1 console that uses an optical drive that can still run only original cassettes and no additional mod chips and everything is clean. and I want to install an additional modchip tool on my PS1, either the fat series or the slim series, so that I can play cassettes by burning and can also run on original cassettes so that I can unlock all regions on the PS1. and also I want to make PS1 burning cassettes so I can save my money on both the PS1 Fat and PSone Slim console series

Hello. The mm3 modchip that I purchased, was already pre-programmed. So no need to do any other mods to it.
It is ready to fit and use back up discs.
I purchased it from a seller on eBay.
