i'm from germany, and i have tested a silver cd version of the PS-X-Change (PAL) - it worked with backups
Been using this same boot disc for years. It comes with a spring the goes in the ps1, I use an original model so it may be different in the psone. Although I no longer use the boot disc now as I reflashed a Gameshark pro and it works as a nodchip now that allows imports and backups to work. But again you'll need an older ps1 that has a parallel port. However I do have a newer original model where I use the boot disc for it.

I would just like to say I just bought a silver bottom disc and it boots backups just fine. I have both the black bottom and silver bottom. They both boot backups.
Yeah I got my silver bottom one to boot backups finally. I guess it was the unit I was originally using.
This is pretty cool. I got the final doom psx game that has a black bottom. It works perfect in my ps2 and ps3. I got a ps2 silver slim model that is hacked with free mcboot. I did the swap trick method with agent under fire game. But I usually only play legit games so it doesn't burn out the laser. Same thing for my dreamcast since I pretty much got that one new. I rarely use burned games.
CD-R copies of any game in those days were made and sold by a seller or somebody else.
Downloading a PS1 ISO off the internet takes long time with a dial-up connection.

I use Memorex, Imation, TDK, yamaha, maxell, and verbatim CDRs. Try backing up that scratched game and playing it. Sometimes a DVD/CDRW drive can read discs that the PSone can't. This happened with my copy of StarWars: Jedi Power Battles. The PSX wouldn't boot the disc so i recopied it and then it worked.
Yeah this game store I know as Game Proz back in the early 90's were selling the PSX loader to support Japanese import games. They were selling Dragonball z for ps1 at the time. I bought it for a reason, to play pirate games, and it works perfectly well.

It's kind of funny that you mentioned that by using these you don't have to void the warranty on your PS1 by opening it up and soldering a modchip on. This Playstation stuff must have got you feeling nostalgic.

Actually the black bottom was used to distinguish original playstation games from counterfeits, i.e. Hong Kong silvers.

The laser burning out too fast if you play CDR games is rubbish. I've played countless number of copied games on my Playstation and it still works fine. Aside from the white PSone, I have an original grey Playstation model SCPH-7501 which is the unit I've fed countless number of backups and it still works.
What is with your controller? Is that some rare kind or something? Where can I get it and what do all the extra buttons do?
It's an ASCII PAD controller. It has turbo buttons out the ass all over it.
This is definitly a rare item. As of right now. Its no where to be found on ebay and i believe theres only 3 diffrent sellers carrying this item on amazon.com. i just got mine for 23 us dollars. Get it while you can!! :)

So you have 2 different "ps-x-change 2" boot disc's, 1 black 1 silver, do either of them say a version on them ? If so are the numbers/versions different ?

I have a couple PSX & 1 PSone and they are all chipped & I use Breaker Pro for playing PSX games on my slim PS2 but I ordered one of these for $10.00 including shipping just to have one.
If this doesn't work on the PS3 then is it possible if i could run my ps1 imports using GameShark v4.0 instead?
It might work on the PS3, not sure. If the GameShark works with the PS3 then use it.

Try amazon.com, but if that produces no results then you will have to search the bowels of Google to find a place that might still sell them.

Whats the dif between Ver. 1 and Ver 2? Can Ver 1 black disc play back ups?
I couldn't tell you, I don't have a version 1. Both of mine in this video are version 2. Mine play orignal imports, import back ups, and same region backups.
For imported games, would I have to import a memory card as well, or does my US memory card work for those?

I have a Breaker Pro video too here on my channel. The PS-x-Change discs are both identical except one is black on the bottom like an original PSX game and the other is silver bottomed like a HK silver bootleg, but I have found that the black bottom works slightly better. Why I ordered 2 back in the day, I don't know. They both have version 2.0 on the top of the CD.

It won't work. I've tried to copy it with NERO, Alcohol 120%, CloneCD, etc. You need an original PS-X-Change2 for it to boot imports and backups.

That is because you can't play anti mod chip games with it. They detect it somehow and think you have a mod chip installed. That's why it says software terminated. Only a few games have anti mod protection though.

When you buy one of these how do you know if it will end up being silver or black? They don't come cheap so I'd sooner get it right.
I believe this could be better than swap disc trick.
It is, because the disc stops spinning so you don't have to worry about any mishaps when swapping discs.
It can be useful to play some Japanese games on the American PS1, but does PAL games work with PS-X-Change?
So this kinda works like an Action Replay but without cheats ? What I mean is you put the thing in and then take it out and put the game in.

+Atarster There is a PAL version of the psx change, and I think you can use it to play US and Japan games on a European PlayStation or vica versa, one of the 2 or maybe both?
i had modchipped ps1 back in the day, but several years later i burned a swap magic disc on a regular disc with imgburn and could boot a regular game, when the disc drive would stop spinning, i would put in the swap magic, when it started spinning again, it had already cleared the security check and i could swap to any game....you could actually do this without the swap magic for some games but success was much greater with it... nowadays with the fact any phone or pc can play it ps1 games its easier to play on there or on a modded ps3
I didn't know you can burn a swap magic disc and it actually work. Unless the modchip had something to do with it working.
@@JeffisWinning i should have clarified, the original one with a modchip was back in probably 97. that got sold for a dreamcast in 98 by my stepdad, so i bought my own non modded one in probably 2002/2003. as stated sony's disc drive would spin up and spin down when it did its security check so i had stuffed a piece of paper in the hinge to keep it open. when the disc would slow down on the black ps screen, you could swap from a normal legit game to a burned game with no mods or enhancements. some games didnt work though so thats why i burned a swap magic disc, and did the same steps to boot a burned swap magic, then from the swap magic disc i could put any burned game in. i always found it kind of funny that some games could be played burned without any mods or swap discs using this little trick

Modchip is better choice, in case of losing your boot disc somewhere.

I always burn Playstation games at 4x. It's a matter of opinion. One isn't necessarily better than the other. If you have a PS X change 2, then you're lucky. There aren't many of them out there nowadays.
Hard to find 4x engravers nowadays in general the lowest is around 16x with current engravers.... I sold my ps1 15 years ago, I kept my psx change 2 and my engraved games (4x from the time with my old computer). I'm nostalgic and I bought a psx recently but by putting my engraved games (identical to the time) it doesn't work..... Is it the 15 year old CDs that are bad, is it the second hand PlayStation that doesn't work for it? She reads the original games very well though.

Can you post a video on how to burn an iso to work with this? I insert my disc and when I put in the burnt copy it spins and just continues to say press start, am I doing something wrong
What program are you using to burn with? The best apps for ps1 games are NERO burning Rom, IMG burn, and alcohol 120%. Just load the .iso file into one of those and it should copy and work fine. I use alcohol 120% myself, but have used IMG burn as well with no issues.

You mean save with a memory card? Yes you can use the ps-x-change 2 disc with memory cards and original import games. The color on the bottom of the disc doesn't matter, as I figured out in this video.

No, a CD-R copy will not work, I have tried a few different programs to copy it with no luck. I did some research and it has to be an original factory pressed PS-X-Change disc as it has the boot information/region code built into the wobble groove just like a real PSone disc does.
The PS1 was released in 1994 in Japan and 1995 in America and Europe, so your right.
Plus I think it might also work on PS2, but you'll either have to take the disc out the tray without it knowing or do a mod that 8-Bit Flashback did to make it a top loader instead for fat models, this is not the case with slim models though if you manage to spin the disc while lid is open (but I could be wrong though). Doesn't work on PS3 though (maybe the SuperSlim, but I dunno).
Oh and I wonder if the GameStation Hong Kong Silver discs are different versions or the same as another one but different region coding (example: Asia is mostly NTSC-J [Japan] so, they might work on a unmodded JPN system). I wonder if they also work on a modded PS1 (either Stealth or standard mod chip) too.
The PSX change 2 disc won't work on the PS2 as far as I know, it might but I haven't tried it to see. The breaker pro boot disc which I did another video about, does work with the PS2.
The HK silvers are pressed copies of games mostly from the PAL with an NTSC trainer built in so it works on U.S. Playstation models without any color issues. They won't work on an unmodded system due to their lack of the SCEx license string. They're essentially CD-R backup copies just pressed onto a disc instead of burned.
@@JeffisWinning They have CD republication machines in Hong Kong, very similar to what PS1 disc pressing plant does. Kalisto was distributing ISOs on internet back in the day, Originals in my country were scant with few exceptions.
@@Playvoodoo Oh I know, the pressing plants in Hong Kong will press out anything for cash. I was getting "Game Station" games from a guy in Singapore back in 2001. They're pressed silver discs. One has a Kalisto intro on it. There was a lot of release groups back in the day, I have some pressed VCD discs that were released by Centropy.

Yes, it will work with any NTSC game as long as you have the NTSC version of ps-x-change2 disc.

Look at the bottom of the disc, it should be either black or silver. The color doesn't matter anyway, I just thought it did but figured out it's just the bottom color of the disc.

Yes, it will work with PAL consoles if you have the PAL version of the PS-x-Change disc.
Jeff I need help I lost the spring for this what material could I use to make one maybe a paper clip those are hard to find on ebay.
You can get replacement springs at the hardware store or at least you could in 2001. Tape works as does what you said a paper clip. Tape + a paper clip works too as does a toothpick.

Does anyone know how these discs worked? I thought the PS1/PSX could not boot unlicenced discs as they would not have the special Sony encrypted track that contains the regional lockout (which doubled as copy protection). I doubt this PS-X-Change was official software., & I bet compatible blank discs & burners that could burn compatible signed software for the PS1 would've been prohibitively expensive for a company that seemed like a fly-by-night establishment. It seems especially weird that the silver disc booted up perfectly. I wonder what is so special about these that slipped by Sony. So cool this exists but weird that it does as the companies were going crazy over piracy back then as CD burners were becoming ubiquitous by the time this boot disc came out.
Sony knew about this disc I'm sure, as you can't use it with anti-modchip games. It was on just about every modchip site you could find back in early 2000 and 2001. The way it works is whoever made it had access to a CD pressing plant. They took the region lock/copy protection off an official Sony game and used a process called "splicing and growing" and did some modifications I am guessing to get it stamped onto the ps-x-change disc. Pretty slick if you ask me.

I thought splicing wouldn't work on something so small, like how if you get a crack in a CD it won't just skip over the spot every revolution but just cease to play from there onwards. WHERE THERE'S A WILL........
+Ivy A Nguyen If you put the ps-x-change disc in your cdrom drive, all that's on the disc is one small .exe file I think. I don't remember seeing a TOC. It's done the same way as a real Sony disc, it is in the wobble where to region protection is, which can't be accessed by a traditional cdrom drive.

Modchipping PlayStations was a common practice in my country.

@Fiedo1996 It will only work with normal games. Games that have the anti-mod protection won't work. If you're getting the console, may have been modded screen, then that game is an anti-mod game.

Do your CDR games work on a moddchipped PSX/PSone? What program are you using to burn your games? I use IMG BURN because it's free and I'm a cheap bastard.

The Game Enhancer might do that, but those only work with PlayStation that have the parrell port. Your best bet is to just install a modchip then your PlayStation becomes region free.
