hiya, what length steer tube would it be, (if you know) on a 93 Mtrax 500 with 1 1/8 Quill stem?
To be honest, I am not sure of the top of my head. Do you have the frame already? As it woul dbe easy to measure.
whi done your respray and graphics please? I've got an old Mtrax 500 ti, I want to Refurb, Argos I'm looking at, in bristol
I did both on this bike. 👍
Do you know if it's typical for the Z1 to sometimes not entirely return to full extension until you pick it up? I was pushing down on mine to test it (smooth action overall, with audible wiper seal noise) and I noticed there was a slight bit of extension left when I picked the fork up. The wipers look good so I wonder if it's just typical stiction?
@@icantgivecredit871 not sure to be honest. I know some forks can be like this. I will have a look at these in the morning and see what they do.
Can I buy a set of Black turbo decals from you?

Hello new alps part no & k ohm ?
They are a license to make with Zokes name. Distributed by Muchachos USA/Int'l/Euro. they had a 'claimed' 130 mm of travel and not one distributor ad from 95-2001 has it listed [Supergo,Jenson,PricePoint etc...] so perhaps they were factory direct . The only reason that I know they existed is the ad in November 1999 volume 13 # 11 Mountain Biking magazine on page 21 .
Fabulous 👌🏻

These forks do not have an oil cartridge. Do you have the later Judy SL?
I read of someone using a small piece of polyurethane rod per leg in a Rockshox Mag 21 fork in order to lessen the horrible bottom-out noise and feeling. By default, the only thing present are a couple of little plastic washers that barely do anything. I wish I had tried that modification when I last had my fork apart. Yeah, it takes away some of the usable travel but with the long travel mod it would be alright.
Love it. Nice tip there. Thank you for adding this comment, Hopefully it will help someone in the future.
i've also got an '88 hardrock exactly the same as yours, albeit a 17" frame. Its lovely to ride and pretty light...perfect for rough lanes and light off road such as towpaths. I think the rear brake is called a 'U' brake - right in the firing line of all the mud and muck thrown up by the rear wheels!... but after stripping it and changing the inner and outer cables, it actually works ok and will lock the rear wheel up! I took the frame into Boots cosmetic counter and got some matching red nail varnish to touch up the paint chips!
Ah, Great. Love it. It certainly is a great retro bike.
Thank you so much for your video. It allowed me to repair mine,p my mum bought me it in 1983 and it means so much as a memory.

Thank you. It is really appreciated.
What type of label printer do you use?
The vinyl printer that I have is made by Roland. 👍
I got one of these for 220 eu few years ago, while still using pretty crappy Jamo E350 speakers. It was still a very noticeable upgrade over cheap old Technics I had even with those speakers, sound was much warmer, much more pleasant highs especially. However then I got an itch because I knew I had much higher class amp than speakers. So then I ended up grabbing pair of Canton CT 720 DC speakers for 170 eu and was blown away by difference in sound clarity. Those Jamo speakers sound downright muffled by comparison, I should've upgraded much sooner. Couple years now with this system and still can't get over how good it sounds.
@@Broformist love it. It is a great amp and yes more noticeable paired with some nice speakers. I use mine daily when I am working 😁
@@retfurb Well I definitely won't be looking for any amp ugprade as long as this one lasts. Which I hope is many years, but it's old already so who knows.
It does seem like a good idea to have a little bit of the stem clamping upon both the extender and the steer tube itself. I would not trust the star nut by itself to hold the extender onto the steer tube, seeing as though the star nut is really not supposed to have such forces applied to it. Is this a fair assumption? As far as it coming loose, I wonder if for whatever reason it requires more preload on the top cap screw that normal. Along with that maybe it needs more torque on the stem bolts... and even carbon paste.
@@icantgivecredit871 I tried to have it clamped on both, but it was no good. I also tried tighter and looser torques for the various securing parts. Still no good.
Great video, very helpful to maintain my own vintage cannondale for commuting. Thanks!
@@freezechill thank you. Glad it will help in some way.
Non-polarized electrolytic capacitors were a big surprise concerning their breakdown. These were in my 1976 Heathkit AA-1506 Audio Power Amp. The next step was to re-lube and contact clean all 24 potentiometers, along with the 15 push switches of my 1976 Soundcraftsmen PE-2217 Equalizer/PreAmp. Deoxit D5 was a life saver for contact cleaning. Plus I replaced the electrolytic caps, while at the same time I found out that wrong capacitor values were present to begin with, thus ending up having difference cap values on the left and right channels. Not a big deal since they had mixed 2.2uF with 4.7uF.
Cool bike I have the same one!
@@dorneyboy123 nice. I plan to do a video soon on my sts.
I remember when these were desirable bling found only on high end bikes, or as an expensive upgrade. They did look cool to be fair, with that black and yellow.
@@samblenkharn8099 yeah, I do like them. These are going on the titanium build….
Thanks so much for this comprehensive video! I shall use your guide when restoring my own SID XC forks. I do have a couple of questions aside: is the oil you used 5wt or 7.5wt? Lastly, is there any way to adjust the effective travel of the air spring when you have the fork apart? I think the fork is 100mm and I want to see if I can make it 80mm travel.
Thank you for the kind comments. Its appreciated. I am glad it will help you. I think off the top of my head, It was 5wt. But I can't be sure, It was a while back. I am not sure with regards to altering travel amount, But pretty sure it would not be possible. Unless there could be a sort of bump stop made to go in lower legs, But I have not done it.
@@retfurb Thanks for answering - I found the manual and noticed it says "(15 wt(std), 5 wt, 10 wt)" under the requirements. I guess the latter two are optional, maybe for personal tuning purposes? The manual also states that travel spacers can be added to decrease travel to 63mm. It says that the travel is by default 80mm with no spacers, which is actually what I'm after. I thought the fork was 100mm travel. Maybe 100mm is the advertised travel and 80mm is actual travel.
@ ah, great. Good information there.
I have successfully bled the front brake - it is now really powerful.. I then bled the rear brake in exactly same way but in spite of repeated attempts I cannot get the rear brake to be nearly as powerful as the front one. It still feels spongy. Is it something to do with the longer pipe and the relative position of the lever and the caliper ? Your help would be much appreciared.
Glad it has helped you with the procedure. It shouldn't make hardly any difference with the difference in hose length. Is it the braking power difference or the movement of the lever / pads?
@@retfurb Thanks for getting back to me - much appreciated. At the same time as bleeding, I replaced the brake blocks. The front is now fantastic - really powerful and requires very little lever movement to operate. The rear is working - but the lever has to be squeezed until it is really close to the handlebar grip for the blocks to grip the rim effectively. I have had to turn the adjustment knob fully clockwise i.e. as for worn blocks. I am concerned that soon I will have to re-bleed. It is a mystery to me !
@@thomasjoseph4718 I would try to adjust the brake pads closer to the rim. As this could possibly be the reason. Especially if you can see the pads move, As soon as you pull the lever.
@@retfurb A belated thank you for your help. I did as you suggested and the brake now works perfectly.
@@thomasjoseph4718 No problem at all. Glad it helped and you have now got it set up all ok. The magura brakes are excellent, But they can be a pain to set up at times.
Re: the amp. I have this same system and it gets extremely loud just at the 9 o'clock position. Is yours the same? Not sure if it's a fault or just how it is. Going further up is just too loud!

Hi, great video. Just stripped the coating off my m950 accidentally in degreaser!! What paint colour did you use? Thanks
@@Speedscholars thank you, it’s appreciated. I used two aerosol colours on this. I first sprayed with a similar grey and then used Vauxhall moonland silver on top. Just as a quick dust, to give it a sheen. However, I am probably going to try to do it differently next time. I have one to do soon. Halfords (in uk) have changed their aerosol paint scheme, with a better spread of colours. So there’s a lot more variations in shades, so I am hoping I can match to one of those.
Had a look at Halfords paint and ones fairly close! M1-340, I’m trying it on some forks first
@ perfect. Let me know how it goes.
Always change the RCAs, the toothed speed adjustment belt and, preferably, the drive belt on Dual 500 series.....the RCAs are a poor-quality moulding and hum, eventually breaking down in the connection in the plug. Drive belts twist and refuse to change speed when old, and the toothed belt goes hard and disintegrates.
