In 7 years since this has come out, the ability to grow indoors has gotten far easier. The switch (mostly) to LED has helped immensely. The ability to control your grow remotely has really come in handy

I started growing indoors in the late 80s, 1989-2024. the indoor equipment then sucked, you had to buy used HID lights not meant for hydro, I made trips to Amsterdam in 91, 95 and 2000 for seed stock I smuggled into the US I always had great weed, started making Hash in 2000 when I went to BC and was shown bubble and BHO production, its been a interesting 36 years to say the least.....
In my area it was usually 50 an 8th for good quality "green bud" as we called it back then. On occasion you would get a strain name, but usually the better quality weed was simply called green bud.

All the comments with regard to 80s prices: 1 oz lid was 60 bucks, quarter lbs were around 200 bucks and full lbs were around 500 bucks. The really good stuff could fetch $100 an oz. and lbs would touch a grand. Stuff like Guatemalan Blonde, Acapulco Gold, Sensimilla or Maui Wowie. I have no idea how this would compare to today's stuff...haven't smoked or even seen any for 35 years.

My buddy and I tinfoiled the whole place and had the kitchen for trimming and processing, living room for flowering, bedroom for clones amd seedlings, and we used the walk in storage closet by the front door to breed. Did that for 3 years. We sold probably 2/3 of our yield to the bikers and kept the rest. We didn't make much off it, we had full time jobs. We were mostly growing for personal, but sold to the bikers at a very low cost as we just wanted the operation paid for, we weren't looking to profit, just wanted free weed, and large amounts of it.
This was a time when a successful low-key lucky grower was getting full price year round anywhere on the continent. Also, just calling a soil grow doesn't make it hydroponic.

it was so sad watching them stuff all the plants in a bag. The only thing that weed was gonna do is create good times with friends.
I grew up around family and friends of the family growing cannabis through the 90s I didn't start messing with growing outdoors until the late 90s and didn't get into to indoor until early Y2K. It was still a lot more work and equipment than you need these days. I'm happy to have spider farmers and ac infinity available.
