Takoma Park is a city in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. It is a suburb of Washington, and part of the Washington metropolitan area. Founded in 1883 and incorporated in 1890, Takoma Park, informally called "Azalea City", is a Tree City USA and a nuclear-free zone. A planned commuter suburb, it is situated along the Metropolitan Branch of the historic Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, just northeast of Washington, and it shares a border and history with the adjacent D.C. neighborhood of Takoma. It is governed by an elected mayor and six elected councilmembers, who form the city council, and an appointed city manager, under a council-manager style of government. The city's population was 17,629 at the 2020 census.
Since 2013, residents of Takoma Park can vote in municipal elections when they turn sixteen. It was the first city in the United States to extend voting rights to 16- and 17-year-olds in city elections. Since then, the City of Hyattsville has followed suit.

Takoma park is one of the most underrated towns in Montgomery county, MD. I been there many times and it was so peaceful and small businesses were thriving and still is. I can actually catch the bus into Montgomery College and Silver Spring, MD so it is basically more to look at. Thank you for the tour.

I lived in Takoma Park when I was in 7th grade. Still about 15 miles away. Many of these roads are very familiar to me. Takoma Park is right next to Washington, DC and has some nice, lovely older homes.
@Linda Beard, I went to Takoma Park Elementary, Piney Branch Middle and Takoma Park Jr. High lol. Not sure if the names of the schools are the same lol..

I lived here from 1980 to 1991 and this brought back a lot of memories. Thanks for filming! Edit @6:23 make a left at that light on Sligo Creek Pwky and my house was about 5 minutes away
So close to the District. Washington Adventist Hospital used to be there, too.

Nice, I would have liked a ride through downtown proper. I was born in Takoma Park.
I lived on sycamore avenue and you went right by there and that's the first time I've seen the firehouse in about 30 years you also went right by where the old mighty Mo used to be and I worked at that Sunoco on the corner of Ethan Allen and New Hampshire I also worked at the Jack-in-the-Box down on University boulevard halfway to the University of MD
I also lived on Sycamore Ave as a child.

I don't know if it still is but it was also half Prince George's county maybe not half but at least a quarter
I believe that the county line was actually moved in the late 90s so that all of Takoma Park would be in Montgomery County.

Takoma Park doesn't allow any chain-stores. No CVS, 7/11, Dunkin' Donuts, etc within it's borders. However, it's bordered by DC which has those stores right on the border, and there's a larger...HUGE...area of smaller border towns with many chain-store choices. Also....The only filling station in Takoma, is an electric vehicle only station. No gas. Seemingly, every street is a steep hill.... weird how that's possible.
There is a large CVS ib the Middle of Old Town TP. Yo left out ...W/E TP used yp br e a very affordable place to live. Whether buying an o'd Victorian Home or renting. But Big Governemnt has driven up property taxes to unaffordable heights for working class families,.couples and singles. It is not the Utopia it once was.
I know first hand for I have lived near and or in Tp since the late 1950s. They even did away with the TP Volenteer Fire Department and replace it with a over paid TP Fire Department. And Adventist Hospital moved away to North of White Oak.😥
