Most wealth is held in land the US and Canada have an overshare of private equity owners who aren't selling. The mistake was people assuming people would sell these properties instead they went into trusts and got passed down. Now the only issue with rich white immigrants buying property in other countries is we then essentially do the same thing that happened to us to other natives.

If you research the story you will realise he caused problems wherever he went, not just in Belize. There's around 80 murders per year, mainly by gangs on the border of Guatemala, and Belize City gangs. The Island they're going to build on is Ambergris Caye, which is considered one of the safest places in Belize is not on the mainland, and quite some distance from where most murders occur., which are on mainland. All the investment will improve the area's economy, bring more opportunities, and will also help to reduce overall crime and corruption in the country. Every country has criminals and murders you can't escape it wherever you go, but as mentioned, the murders are mainly gang related, and not anywhere near Ambergris Caye. Maybe do a wide range of research before scaremongering based on an internet article you read that gave a biased opinion about John McAfee. Or at least give an in-depth comment based on a wide range of factual research to explain why you believe it's not safe. Do you think all the people that are buying and building on Ambergris Caye are just blindly moving there without doing their homework?

I travelled to many countries and lived in a few of them. I have been to Belize 20 years ago and it was not that cheap even at that time . Food was very expensive since a lot of them is imported and houses in Belize City were expensive. Belize City is not a safe place specially if you are a foreigner. Of course outside of Belize City is different . Well everyone look at things with different eyes. My pick would be Panama, Fiji, Thailand or Sri Lanka, safer than Belize and much cheaper. Philippines is also another good choice. Then if you are looking for something safer Portugal is a big winner. Houses in Portugal are very reasonable outside Lisbon. Property taxes are ridiculous low and food are not that expensive.

You can't buy land in Bali unless you are from Bali, or you marry someone from their also if you divorce you lose "ownership" The best you can do is a long-term leasehold, stop misleading people. I saw Belize decades ago when you could buy an island for 30-40K USD
I would rather invest in Vietnam or Thailand because South america is not the most stable zones for tourism or business, its disadvantaged in terms of trade accessability its workforce is smaller its state support for business is questionable, and we are talking about internal population growth as well as economic opportunity/output in our lifetime only 100 years maximum. For example South east asia is sitting in the middle of Major trade arteries making food and more goods affordable for local population and local population sallaries does not require to be higher because of this reason, tourism tends to come to those places because of affordability and quality and it has larger pool of people who could visit from all over the world. since it is a transit hubs of major population of the world. Belize and Mexico is not a major transit hub except for drugs, its workforce are smaller these are the people you are also betting on you are not just betting on the beauty you are also betting on the people of that country you are investing in this is what you must keep in mind when making decision like this.

The mistake was people assuming people would sell these properties instead they went into trusts and got passed down. Now the only issue with rich white immigrants buying property in other countries is we then essentially do the same thing that happened to us to other natives.

It's not safe. Just research out what happened to John McAfee.
McAfee has nothing to do with reality. The mainland is very dangerous. That's why foreigners rarely live on the mainland and if they do they probably live far from most anyone. It's a rough country. Think Jamaica in Central America.
the US GOVERN MENTE killed him .....whats your point? he was a neighbor and nothing but good to the belixze gov until they tried to extort him.... Janice and family is good people...OH thats right you aint been to Belize so Shut F up please and thank you.....
John McAfee was mentally disturbed individual
There are neighborhoods in Belize City that are unsafe. Caye Caulker is very sketchy.

Given the topography of Belize, this little paradise in a few years might be underwater just like all the low-lying land formations, but hopefully, I'm wrong.
You wrong. They said the same thing about Maldives 30 years ago, and all the islands still there LoL. Stop watching CNN !
@@littlered7820 No you are wrong. No scientist has predicted 30 years ago that the Maldives would be underwater today. Annual sea level rise is 3.4mm so that's about 10.2cm of sea level rise in the last 30 years (and 30 years ago it was 2mm a year). The average elevation of the Maldives is 1.5m (150cm) so in 30 years about 7% of the way there... Earliest predictions from scientists say 2100 will be when the Maldives go under. Go back to school.
@@ReillyMcGlashan It's an island surrounded by the sea, and the natural tidal rises aren't that bad compared to other places around the world. Their tidal rises are consistent and predictable. Most of the land where they're building is situated inland, and is elevated above sea level by 12 to 24 feet, it's not that much of an issue. The land is hard bedrock, which is less susceptible to erosion from water, it's ideal land to build on. Also, if you watched the video his plots of land are 1km inland, not right on the beach!
@@hearmenow909 my comment above was not directed at whether or not the land was appropriate to build on in his particular case. It was a reply to someone who was making big claims about scientists saying that the Maldives would be underwater now because they said so 30 years ago. Which is false, no scientific research 30 years ago was published saying that the Maldives would be underwater now but it’s a classic climate change denial position. State random facts like this that are incorrect. So just calling them out on it. If people actually read the research published and educate themselves on the topic then maybe these stupid denial catch phrases might disappear.
And in the end no trees left and all over hotels and houses?
So in other words: i built in this beautiful place surrounded by beautiful nature and 10 years later i have 200 houses surrounding me? That’s not what I would want. I would want a place where there’s not suddenly a big village surrounding me.

The thing is I'd like to know how he's going to go about waste management, how water and piping works and so forth?

I don't know...just not convinced...What do you think happens to the environment when it is developed?
