- Miriam Makeba pronounces the alphabet in click sounds! Click consonants are frequent in her native Xhosa language. From Wikipedia: "Xhosa is spoken as a first language by approximately 8.2 million people and by another 11 million as a second language in South Africa. It has perhaps the heaviest functional load of click consonants in a Bantu language, with one count finding that 10% of basic vocabulary items contained a click." It's a written language that uses the Roman alphabet!

Miriam Biography from her RUclips channel:-
Zenzile Miriam Makeba (4 March 1932 - 9 November 2008), nicknamed Mama Africa, was a Grammy Award-winning South African singer and civil rights activist.
In the 1960s, she was the first artist from Africa to popularize African music around the world. She is best known for the song "Pata Pata", first recorded in 1957 and released in the U.S. in 1967. She recorded and toured with many popular artists, such as Harry Belafonte, Paul Simon, and her former husband Hugh Masekela.
Makeba campaigned against the South African system of apartheid. The South African government responded by revoking her passport in 1960 and her citizenship and right of return in 1963. As the apartheid system crumbled she returned home for the first time in 1990.
Makeba died of a heart attack on 9 November 2008 after performing in a concert in Italy organised to support writer Roberto Saviano in his stand against the Camorra, a mafia-like organisation local to the region of Campania.

That was a beautiful smile
Her explanation was so simple. I’ve known about that language & I’ve heard it spoken, however, this is the first I’ve heard how the sounds were used. Classy lady.

I felt that first X in my soul
beautiful language and totally unique
Not only is it not totally unique - there are at least 23 languages across multiple southern and eastern African language families that have click sounds - the Xhosa language that Makeba is speaking doesn't even have those sounds natively. They were adopted from a language in the Khoisan family (where it's thought those sounds originated).
So beautiful, so humble!
Rip sweet lady. Never forgotten 🙏🏾
So calmly and lovely 😍. You have died but you still lived. You're one of my great hero.
Rest in Power. Pata Pata, I remember my feet dancing thankyou
She's so beautiful and has an energy that just draws you in.
Your impact on the world will never be forgotten 😊
Isn't she speaking Xhosa? Why don't they put the name of the language in the title so people know what it's called instead of always referring it to the "click" language.
There's a proper explanation of Xhosa in the description. But I guess on shorts not many people go and look there! It's not in the title as most people don't know what it is, and maybe wouldn't click on that! Maybe it can be added, and still be a short snappy title. Between us we will educate people!
Because the mayority of people want to have the food chewed.
Is that the name of the "Tribe"??
Xhosa ❤🎉😊
That would've been helpful, yeah. But on a side note, Xhosa is not by any means the only "click language". In fact, those clicks aren't even native to Xhosa. They're borrowed from one or more of the Khoisan languages where those sounds are believed to have originated.
Su voz es muy hermosa, ella es mágica ❤

Thanks for telling, Mama Africa, I found a short time before out that I habe ancestors from there, too, that may be why I am physicly able to speak that letters.. But I dont really look black, have half blond hair and half african, but with green eyes, so I am 25% southafrican and 75% viking, I never thought about that, but I wanna know more about my african ancestors.,
