    Too many people pay too much attention to vocal minorities and make the mistake of using those "vocal minorities" as representative of the fanbase.

    I think the Fire Emblem community in general is pretty friendly, anyone saying otherwise are not involved in it, or are not used to other communities. I challenge you to go through the comment section of a somewhat popular FE RUclipsr, or simply a stroll down the Fire Emblem subreddit and count how many negative/hateful/toxic comments you encounter in the span of 20 minutes, and I’ll promise you it won’t be many. Compared to some of the other communities out there, Fire Emblem is extremely welcoming and friendly. The Heroes community is a tad worse, but that’s a different game and doesn’t really deserve to be lumped in with the main one.

      In almost 20 years they added around 900 Pokémons, but almost a third of those come from the first two gens. They added abilities and that's the biggest thing, then special/physical split. And that could easily have been done as soon as gen 2 but nope, they did it on gen 4. Gen 6 had mega evos, but they are useless or completely overpowered without a good reason. Z moves are just glorified bijous.

    I hate to admit it, but I've generalized large portions of the fanbase from comment sections where people are saying how they want the series to die or they want the next game to be cancelled and all that. I love playing (almost) all of the FE games whether it be new or old, but it's important to be open to criticism. I don't see why many people in the fanbase have to argue with one another based on what game they were introduced by since more fans equals more sales, and more sales equals more games.

    I was one of the fellows who joined this community with Awakening. However, since that Christmas back in 2013, I've gone and fallen in love with the franchise. 90% of the youtubers that I watch are FE-tubers, and I've bought every English localised game, and beaten them (even the ridiculously expensive Tellius games), as well as played translated roms of all the Japan-only releases. 15 games are a lot, and if I'm being honest here, I can now see why so many loathe or love Awakening. I bought Fates, all three paths, and even shot myself in the foot with the stupidly overpriced DLC of Echoes.
    If I had to be honest, my favorite games are probably Sacred Stones, Genealogy of the Holy War, and Echoes.
    I like all of them, and Gaiden was the only one that I really didn't enjoy as much, but that was mostly due to slow ui, and clunky...well...everything. Thankfully, Echoes fixed all that, and made itself one of my favorites. Not to say that it has no flaws, but...whatever. I've rambled on enough.
    TLDR I'm an Awakening Baby who went back and actually enjoys the older games, too, a lot.

    I'd say this whole "salty environtment" is because of humans resenting negatives more than enjoying the positives; but I'm not referring to the opinions about the games, but the opinions people have about each other. If most fans think FE4's story should receive a Nobel prize but I believe it's narrative is a complete mess and deserves a 5/10, due to people perceiving my opinion as negative I'll be seen as a "double negative", not to mention certain "belief circles" will perpetuate opinions. That being said, the FE fanbase is rather tame, they tend to overreact, but I'm yet to see someone being abused.

    • @royd.f.9153
      @royd.f.9153 6 лет назад +3

      The game starts by info dumping the player and throwing portraits and names, all without context, making it hard to remember everything, so it's both pointless and overwhelming. It goes on with monologues and static portraits, the latter of which wouldn't be much of an issue it it weren't for how disconnected some characters are from their portraits. My favorite example is Arvis, the well intentioned tyrant who was manipulated, but looks like a smug jackass in both of his portraits. Monologues in general are unnatural and more difficult to remember due to lacking a direct connection with what's going on, for example, a conversation is easy to keep track of because it's a character interaction, but unless a monologue has received a build up (like a character explaining something to itself just to feel reassured after it's life has been thorned apart) it won't work. This is specially hurtful because of FE4 being a drama, it might have epic elements, but at it's core is about it's characters struggles.
      Other related issue is in how the information is handled: backstory is kept in the manual and events, such as Kurth's death, are mentioned in the monologues or conversations, again, without a proper build up. In truth, important things for the plot, such what happened between Byron, Reptor and Langobalt, as well as what happened to Deirdre's mother, wouldn't be clear, or even remembered, to me at all if it weren't for summaries in the internet.

    • @royd.f.9153
      @royd.f.9153 6 лет назад

      The story is made of the script (what there is) and the narrative (how it's told). I agree that FE4's script is pretty good, it's how the game tells it that bothers me, but I wouldn't change anything besides the narrative. My favorite story is also Echoes', it feels really natural, Blazing Blade is pretty close due to being much more personal than most FEs.

    • @LunaSaint
      @LunaSaint 6 лет назад

      Agreed.
      The delivery is all over the place, incredibly dry in many places and almost all of the character development is locked behind easily missed hidden conversations and supporting material outside of the game.
      While I liked a lot of the subplots, I hated pretty much every villain that wasn't Travant or Arvis. Most important people in Jugdral, especially in Gen 1, are portrayed as irredeemable monsters or hopeless cowards with no little sign of depth. Except for the Loptyr cult, who just happened to be masterminds who somehow gained control over the world behind everyone's backs?
      I get that the focus is on big, overarching world story, but so much of it was contrived or just told to the player with very little show. Travant was awesome, but I didn't find much else compelling about the game's delivery.

  • @rubendortland7601

    The main argument against the FE fanbase is how divided the community is. Old and new are very seperated, which is only strengthened in other people's eyes by some vocal minorities not wanting to accept either old or new (usually new).
    From my experience the community is actually very friendly. The Heroes community is a saltmine when it comes to summoning though, but honestly, that's to be expected.

  • @obsidianknife427
    @obsidianknife427 6 лет назад +9

    I think the FE fanbase can best be summarized as an overly critical and protective parent. People expect a lot out of the franchise, so when a game doesn't deliver and fails to meet their expectations, they're disappointed and complain about how they wanted more out of the experience. Similar to how a parent (well a good parent anyway) only wants what's best for their children, so they may be show tough love or be more strict which is the exact opposite of what a teenager might want, looking for more independence. Fire Emblem fans only complain as much as they do because they care too much, they love this series too much. Parents are the same way, they wouldn't show concern over their children if they didn't care.

  • @MythrilZenith
    @MythrilZenith 6 лет назад +3

    The truth of the matter is that it’s a lot easier to nitpick things we love (or at least want to love) than it is to point out all the things we enjoy. Plus it comes from a desire to understand what we like or don’t like and why. At least, when it comes from the right place. And I think most of the vocal community comes from this place. There are obviously a few exceptions who have adopted a personal mission to hate on specific aspects or games with their whole being, but they shouldn’t be taken as representing the whole.

    I mostly agree with everything you said except for the fanbase being critical
    I see so many people bashing titles (mostly the modern ones) and Bashing ≠ criticism. Bashing is hating on the game for the sole purpose of hating on it and upsetting the people who do like that title in the series. Being critical respects the people who like said title and helps improve future games
    For example, I will use a game like fates because it gets alot of flack (both deserved and undeserved)
    There's a difference between saying "lol fates bad" and "fates has a bad story and characters have one note personalities" the first one does not acknowledge why fates disappointed alot of people and just says it's bad with no supporting evidence and is said for the purpose of being destructive towards the fans, the latter statement acknowledges where fates is lacking in while at the same time respecting those who enjoy the game, it also gives the company tips for improving future games in the series.

    I was playing some Fire Emblem games before Awakening, but that's when I 'joined' the fandom, and I think we are hundreds of miles better than we were then. Around the time of release of 15 (Echoes), things seemed to cool down somewhat, but there is still a very long way to go.
    While it's presented with a joking atmosphere, a lot of discussion of each game will garner snarky comments trying to be witty. Stuff like, "why do people dislike FE 7" will be met with something like "Uhh, HHM map whatever where you've got to protect the villain of 6 and recruit the worst unit in the game would like to say hi" and that's just unhelpful. It's deescalated from name calling and trying to gatekeep what being a fan means, but I don't think we've gotten to the point where two random people would automatically help each other out because one of them posted a question on the subreddit.

  • @EpicSaxPanda
    @EpicSaxPanda 6 лет назад +20

    i personally think fe10 is underappreciated, but all your points have validity
    i enjoyed playing fates, but the fanservice was a bit much at times. also the fact that there were children characters made no sense and seemed shoehorned in just so corrin could bang that character that you love, whereas in fe4 and awakening it actually had a purpose in the story.

    4:14 MarkyJoe touched on this point with relations to Kaga game flaws. He said they (generally) have terrible map design which I kind of agree with when you look at Gaiden and the needlessly large maps of FE 4. Or that early game map in Fe 3 book 2 where you have to go around this huge mountain and like 70% of the map is unused peak and cliff terrain. Stuff like that.

    • @shallomard801
      @shallomard801 6 лет назад +9

      Funnily enough Kaga's map designs are pretty similar today if you check his most recent game Vestaria Saga. Most of the maps are pretty big, but instead of having a lot of empty space where nothing happens or having to backtrack, you typically have to go through most of the map since each map typically has different sections that make use of the size. Still has the big maps like FE4, but nowhere near as badly designed as FE4/Gaiden since he actually makes use of the size of the maps.

      FE4 can't be judged as a normal Fire Emblem. If you tried to make it like you would something like Mystery or Binding Blade, you'd end up with a mess of a game with no real direction. If it didn't have huge maps, it just wouldn't work.

  • @shallomard801
    @shallomard801 6 лет назад +36

    Honestly every fanbase has an annoying vocal minority, FE is no exception. It's not as bad as say the anime community tho where if you say you like SAO you'll get constant shit, you won't get near as much flak if you say you like Fates or Awakening in the FE community. I think Pokemon is about to go through a similar phase again, since the next main Pokemon game is apparently going to change up the battle style completely.
    I like every FE game and I don't particularly dislike any characters to the point of calling them shit like thots or w/e. The problem is when people bash others for simply liking a game or character, let people enjoy what they want. I'm excited for FE Switch, but I know there's going to be outrage no matter what it's about or how it's presented because there are people in the community who just cannot stand how FE has ''changed'' and how big the fanbase got with all the new people.

    • @bluecharizard8481
      @bluecharizard8481 6 лет назад +12

      shallo mard I think Heroes honestly made the community alot more toxic, just look at how people reacted to Tharja and Camilla winning the voting gauntlets and how they reacted to the costumes characters like Nowi or Kagero got. So much false outrage because ''A character I don't like won a contest and this character is too sexualized.''
      Then of course there's the people who bring up Fates/Awakening as much as they can to shit on it lol, there's nothing wrong with not liking a game but it's been 3+ years already since they came out lol. We get that their plot/characters/gameplay/etc wern't exactly perfect but all that shit is subjective anyway. To bring up SAO and the anime community like you did; it's like that Mother's Basement channel who still makes videos today about how shit SAO is and why you shouldn't like it.

    I am relatively new to the fandom and series in general. I was introduced through Awakening, and have slowly made my way through more and more games, my perception of the series changing little by little with each entry I play. In addition my perception of the fandom itself has changed bit by bit as well. To make this simple... this is probably the best fandom I've ever been involved in, mind you I was a Sonic fan before so the bar is kind of low, and it's interesting to watch. It's a critical fandom, but everyone has a different view of the series being as every game is so wildly different, even if they do all have the same core gameplay.
    Really you can look to the communities perception of a single character like... say, Roy, as a sort of microcosm of the fandom as a whole. Everyone has a different perception of things and it makes for some interesting debate... or some not so interesting debate.
    It can't be denied that the "toxic elitists" people whine about do exist... but then you also have people doing all that whining so... you know. It's a weird community in a lot of way, but an enjoyable one all the same.

      I think saying ANY fanbase is bad is really a stretch since when you aren't a part of that fandom you will rarely hear about anything but the bad ones. The only reason you hear that sort of stuff more about something like Undertale or Sonic communities is because they're so large that there's technically more people on the extreme end despite it most likely being a similar amount percentage wise.

    I think a good portion of the criticism is warranted in most cases. For example, the Warriors examples you gave. However, a lot of people try to outright shut down any time someone's negative about any of the post-Awakening games and use Awakening's and Fates' sales as their justification, which is aggrevating, and makes the crotchity old veterans (I.E., me.) even more negative, especially when only a small part of the entire series get included in spinoffs that are made to celebrate the entire franchise, aside from Heroes.

      Honestly the reason those 2 games sold well, is that they made way more advertisement for them as for the past entries. Like did Nintendo/Intelligent Systems think PoR, RD, SS, BB and the 3rd GBA Title sell super good by just throwing it out, well it looked like they thought that lol

    I love Fire Emblem. I love arguing about Fire Emblem at 12 am. I just hate bias towards newer games, and bias towards old games. But, as a fan, I can enjoy Awakening for the gameplay, Blazing Blade for the story, and if the critism isn't mindless hating, its good.

    *The fire emblem fandom is probably one of the neutral fandoms that exist. Most fans, such as myself love the games, the characters, the songs, etc. We dislike unfair enemy crits and bad stat boosts. We usually don't mind haters as we are normally modest about our opinions. We main our favorites in smash bros and may get upset when our mains are called "marth clones". There are rarely if not ever any cringy fangirls who are toxic about the series, and come on man. We just like anime chess. At least we're better than most popular communities. The FE fandom is normally underrated for the stereotypical protagonist simps, but we love it. And that's fine.*

    I started with Awakening, now there's only 6 games I haven't played just yet. Honestly, the fact that every game is a bit different and is good for different reasons is the main reason I love this series.
    Awakening allows me to see lots of supports easily, and the fact that you can break the game with pair up and children so easily if you choose to is just fun. I've also gotten to ch17 in lunatic+ with no grinding at all, which makes you play the game very differently and provided one hell of a challenge.
    Fates allows me to play modern FE with pair up without it being overpowered, and Conquest provides a challenge. The story is utter crap and there's lots more that annoys me, yet I still find ways to have fun with it.
    Echoes is absolutely gorgeous presentation-wise, and the large open maps with no weapon triangle allow you to form a long line of tanky units and either charge or hold your ground and let enemy ranks break against you, which is fun. Also Mila's turnwheel is a godsend.
    Blazing Blade provides the best tutorial, an interesting story, fixes the rng and same-turn reinforcements and is one of the best for replayability with both Eliwood and Hector's stories. I wish supports were easier to unlock, but this is still one of my favourites.
    Binding Blade feels like it's for those who find FE7 too easy. I mostly didn't like it for the basic story, same turn ambush reinforcements, Roy not promoting for ages, the overabundance of long range threats and the punishing and unpredictable gimmicks in side stories. And yet looking on forums I find people that love this game for the challenge and characters. If that's you, fair enough. I can understand why you like this game and I'm happy for you.
    I thought New Mystery of the Emblem was a huge improvement over Shadow Dragon, adding in supports really gave the characters life, and I love its glossary feature. I also quite liked the avatar's interactions with everyone and thought Katarina's story added to what is otherwise quite a basic one. It's a bit nicer to play than the gba games too due to its smooth user interface. I can more easily see the enemy stats, weapons and range. It's a nice compromise between FE7 and FE13.
    I'm hoping to play Genealogy of the Holy War and Path of Radiance in the next year or so. I've heard great things about the FE4's story and know it will be more of a challenge. I'm looking forward to seeing if and why I enjoy the game.
    And the music is amazing in every game. Everyone is different, and Fire Emblem is a rare treasure that has something to entice almost everyone. If someone asks me what the best Fire Emblem is, I'll list my favourites and why they're good and bad, and let them decide which one to play based on those reasons. It's in human nature to focus on negatives, but maybe there should be more talk about why we love each game.

    I think being critical is good. Getting complacent makes developers lazy. I don't like the story in Fates at all, or its business practices (which got worse in echoes with a 45€ season pass that barely had anything of worth), but i still play it quite a bit. I like the dual system in that game and the skills, they also fixed balancing issues that awakening had (although it still has its share of broken mechanics).
    I don't feel like i quite fit in either archetype of awakening casual or old elitist fan. I started out with Shadow Dragon on the DS. I did not know what the hell i was doing because i had never played a strategy game seriously before, i would get lots of my units killed, and i never managed to beat the game until years later, after i played and beat awakening. After Fates, i started playing the older games, and i was mostly okay with most of them, except FE6 and RD. I like having casual mode as an option available, because sometimes i'm not in the mood or mindset to reset over having one of my units killed, but i can also enjoy the games that don't have that option.

    I have this problem that's more a meta complaint about people on the internet than it is with the FE fanbase within itself, and I don't really know who to complain to so I'm just gonna post it here.
    I am really glad that FE as a series has become more popular and that more people are at least getting into some aspect of the games, as there are many different things to enjoy. Unfortunately it just seems like as this fanbase grows, more complaints and accusations continue to get thrown at this huge multi-faceted group that assuredly do not all think as one monolithic entity. From Smash fans complaining about FE character representation, to twitter users blanketing FE fans as being annoying or elitist, the list just goes on for complaints levied at a fanbase from *outside* that very fanbase. I can't tell you how many times I see someone who has only ever played Heroes just because of their jpg lust (which sure even that is fine you're not hurting anyone by doing this) posting on twitter and getting flamed by non-fans going "wow FE fans have literally never talked to a girl before" or something of that nature.
    It's just been really annoying that I used to be able to just tell people "Oh I like FE games, here I recommend playing FE7 for the GBA first, I hope you enjoy them" to now you say you're an FE fan and you have to like, qualify yourself first.
    tl;dr I can't believe anyone would look at someone who says they're a fan of a 15 game series and somehow lump every single one of them together, yet it happens.
    No one does this to Final Fantasy fans or Mega Man fans etc. Which sucks because the actual FE community is generally pretty chill if you actually talk to someone who has played more than one game in the series.

    I discovered the series through Awakening and loved it. I’ve played the GBA trilogy, Fates, Echoes, and Path of Radiance. Guess what? I loved all of them. I can understand the older fans disliking the newer games and vice versa, but I draw the line when one group hates the other just for the sake of creating conflict. I am very much a more casual FE player, but I do believe it is completely unnecessary to hate on one group of the fandom just because they like what you dislike.

    Fire Emblem has been my favorite franchise for twenty years now. Personally, I treasure the story/character aspect of Fire Emblem 100x more than I do simple strategy. I do really enjoy creating cool tactics though and imagining myself in the fight. However, I like realistic characters. I could not stand Fates for this reason. It was an enjoyable game, but it felt like an anime. Awakening on the other hand just felt like a sort of Disney Fire Emblem which is okay I guess. I enjoyed it quite a bit. At the same time though, some of the old games do not have enough focus on story as I would like. My favorite FE games are the ones that have realistic characters and an intriguing get story with decent gameplay (like I said I don't care if the strategy is lacking). For these reasons my favorite FE games are 4, Thracia, 7, Radiant Dawn, and Echoes.
    As for fans... Yeah. Our community is pretty horrid. Both sides hate certain games too much. Fates is my least favorite in the series, but it was still a Fire Emblem game. If you're truly going to call yourself a fan of Fire Emblem than you'll like anything it throws at you even just the slightest bit.

    Coming back a year late but meh, this video had an interesting concept that I think I have some insight I don't see elsewhere in the commnets.
    My problem with the FE Community, and with MANY communities, is that people absolutely love to crap all over the franchise, ruining the face level enjoyment some people get, and go strictly under the scope of criticism.
    Now, this is 100% okay, but the issue is there's very little positive ever said by many of these people as they assume it's common knowledge. For example, up until recently the only things I ever heard while scrolling through the community stuff was people talking about how annoying FE4's maps are, but now that I've played it it's about ready to be my favorite game for reason that NO ONE ever seems to talk about.
    For example, I think FE4 has some of the most amazing gameplay in the franchise, and yeah sure it's a long game but outside of Chaz's FE4 Propaganda, I never really saw any positive discussion. You always see discussion about Fates, Awakening, some about Echoes and a bit about FE6 but I rarely ever saw anything about FE4's positive side besides people asking about the bad rumors.
    TL;DR - A lot of people don't know how to give criticism without sounding like they hate something.
    Fates has a terrible story but Conquest has some pretty awesome stuff going on
    Awakening is a broken mess but it has some interesting points in there and some of the most gorgeous visuals until Echoes.
    Echoes, my favorite game in the franchise at the moment, has terrible hit rates and bad map design, but it is gorgeous and it has some of the best characters around.
    FE4 has massive maps, which while I consider that a boon due to their purpose, I see why others find it intimidating. Its mechanics are tough to understand as well. Though its way of telling a story through gameplay and the shakspearian story of it all is one of my favorite combinations in all of gaming.
    While all this is opinions, I doubt they're too terribly controversial. The only FE Game I genuinely dislike is FE6 and I cannot give a good reason for disliking it. Something about FE6 just does NOT vibe with me right.

Plus, GameFaqs/Reddit/Serenes Forest/etc. aren't an accurate representation and I generally don't pay attention to it anymore. Otherwise, none of the characters in FE Warriors would be even in it and there would have been other characters from FE 4 or 5 instead.

It's important to recognize the vanity of your own opinion and recognize the fact that other people are simply different from you. Attack the thing you disagree with andnot the people who support it. I.e, It's okay to dislike the recent burst of fanservice, I despise it, but I'm not going to attack the people who don't dislike it.
    Also, every game is imperfect. I recognize that I only like fe4 because It has things that I, as an individual, appreciate. Now, someone else, who doesnt like things in Fe4, are totally right in saying it sucks. Don't let the opinions of others force you into a defensive outburst

    With the way the FE community is more open to being critical and acknowledging certain aspects of the games it makes the fandom a lot better than how the Pokemon community is nowadays due to many pokemon loyalists being unable to cope with the new criticisms and unable to accept the fact there is anything wrong with Sword and Sheild

    I think fans of things (this applies to pretty much every fandom) tend to take it overly personally when something they love is criticised.
    I can definitely understand having a personal connection to something and not liking it when people hate on it though. One of the main reasons why I love FE4/5 is because of all the references to Celtic mythology, as I'm Irish and the stories referenced in the game are the same ones I grew up with. So when someone is critical of it, even if I know they're right, it's hard not to take it a little bit personally.
    But in the end, everyone's entitled to their opinion, and having a negative opinion on a game you like isn't a personal attack on you.

    i started with FE7 around the time it first came out and since then I have completed 6-15 and played at least some of 1-5. Fire Emblem is absolutely my favorite series, but I did not enjoy Fates (even though I actually liked Awakening). Even so, there are still some things about Fates I did like, such a lot of the music in later chapters, and the additional personal skills. Even if there are some games fans don't like as much as others, I'd still say that there are things that fans should be able to agree that each Fire Emblem does well

    I think its good that the FE community has a "critical" attitude towards its games. It makes more fun to analyze games and see what they did wrong and right, instead of just taking them as they are and not saying anything.

    0:37 We do?
    2:08 Pair up guides for Fire Emblem Awakening and Fates disagree.
    3:00 Every Fire Emblem game tries to do something different in each game, and that is fine as it adds variety.
    4:00 Radiant Dawn favors the older characters in comparison to the newer characters, but the third tier is a nice addition, and I'm glad they brought it back with over classing in SoV.
    4:50 Agreed, re-classing to get different skills in Fates was great, hopefully they will make it easier with the arts system that SoV has.
    5:16 I became concerned about Fire Emblem when we got Fates after Awakening. Awakening was great with the new mechanics, my problem was with the copy and pasting of several characters and character types from Awakening into Fates (ex: returning characters Owain, Inigo and Severa, plus copy and paste character types like Tharja and Rhajat).
    Every Fire Emblem has their problems, and everyone has their own opinions of the games.
    6:51 Agreed
    6:57 How to make the most money: Split the game into 3 parts and make the players buy each part individually.
    7:30 I got Warriors, now I'm just waiting for that sequal.

    Ask any Pokémon fan what their ranking of the games are and you'll get something like this.
    Best: Gen 3 / Gen 4 / Gen 5
    Meh: Gen 6 / Gen 7
    Bad: Gen 8 (I think the only group of people this isn't true for are the VGC crowd)
    Classics: Gen 1 / Gen 2 (Tolerance for older graphics is a big factor in enjoyment and makes them hard to rank)
    Ask any Final Fantasy fan what their ranking of the games are and you'll get something like this.
    Best: FF6 / FF7
    Good: FF4 / FF9 / FF10 / FF12 / FF15
    Meh: FF8
    Bad: FF2 / FF11 / FF13
    Classics: FF1 / FF3 / FF5 (Again tolerance for older graphics is a big factor in enjoyment)
    MMO: FF14 (Kind of it's own thing)
    Well these lists could have some mild tweaks made to them none of them have any egregious hot takes. And certainly none of the games are more than a tier from where they belong.
    Meanwhile in Fire Emblem you'd be lucky to get people to agree on where one of the games go.

    I pretty much agree with all those "basic criticisms" of each game, except the bit about FE9 and 10's map animations since 1: I don't play with map animations unless I've failed a chapter so much that I just want to get it over with and 2: I don't mind long battle animations. So my criticism of FE10 that pretty much everyone agrees with would be: "the parties are badly balanced." Who's idea was it to put all the bad units in Micaiah's party and put all the good units in Ike's? AND also give Micaiah the hardest chapters. Radiant Dawn is still my second favourite FE, but I still agree with this criticism. (Also "Wyvern Riders are too good", but that repeats FE8's one)

    4:48-4:53. That is totally me. Unpopular opinion here, but as much as I like FF7 Negative growths. I would actually like to watch Mekkkah play Fates on his channel (route doesn't matter). I just think it would be neat to see how Mekkkah would do in a blind Fates playthrough (sorry if my assumption of you not playing Fates is untrue); as I have just finished a Lunatic Conquest run with help from Pitfalls and so thanks for helping me become a better player. I know you dislike Fates but I think it would be neat to watch you play it.~

    My favorite FE is Sacred Stones and my buddies always say it is trash because it it one of the easiest FE's, but then I say FE4 (my friend's favorite) was so boring I wanted to off myself. Really just joking around but i think that preferences on which type of game you like in a franchise shouldn't make the whole community 'bad', just opinionated.

    It's just a meme but I see your point. Also, every single FE game's plot has been scrutinized though FE7 and FE10 are easier pickings due to trying a new plot and therefore having some inconsistencies due to writer's inexperience. That doesn't necessarily mean those two games have inferior and less enjoyable plot compared to the other classic titles. Not to mention a lot of the criticism of the plots in those games, especially FE10, exagerate some of the flaws and ignore/misinterpret some of the writing.

  • @Cheefoo124

    I think a lot of the divide can be attributed to the way Intelligent Systems has treated this franchise over the years. We're constantly reminded of how Fire Emblem was going to be axed if Awakening didn't sell well enough, so every time they release a new game, we can feel their hand getting ready to pull the plug. As such, some of us feel like we have to be critical of every new release, as not to guide the franchise down a dead end. I wouldn't say it's an "unhealthy" trait to have in a community, in fact, I think it's healthy for the circumstance we're in -- it's just the fact that we're in such a place to begin with is what leaves us feeling bitter sometimes. Whether or not IS intended to, I feel like they've guilt tripped us and we're all still recovering from it.
    However, with the success of Fire Emblem Heroes, I'm actually very positive about the future of the franchise. Disparage it if you must, it's clearly showing IS how much people really care about the series, and to go even further, how much we can care about even the older games and their characters. I think FEH will inform their decisions for some time to come.

    I think people as a whole are generally pretty vocal about things they view negatively and that just gets amplified by the internet and then again by fanbases. The most passionate, descriptive things I can write aren't about things I love, but about things I hate, especially popular things I hate. And I don't think I'm alone in that, so as the number of people in any given forum rises, the number of potential rants on any given subject rise with them.

    I would not call myself a fan of fire emblem for a very specific reason, but I do really like the series. The problem is in a group, only the loudest, worst people are heard. No one talks about those normal people who like Rick and Morty, only the dumbasses who raided McDonald's.
    Fire Emblem's fan problem is a mixture of the problem above and bad communication.
    People who were complaining about Phoenix mode were really stupid for even getting mad at that when it was optional. I genuinely don't understand how people can get mad about that. Because they give that as an optional thing for the strategically challenged who just want to do the story? I almost always pick classic anyway, so it made no effect on me, and despite doing casual Lunatic+ In awakening, never did I consider Phoenix mode in Fates as that kills all the challenge for me. But I didn't care that it was an option.
    A lot of people like to say games like Sacred stones shouldn't allow you to grind, but again, all of this is optional stuff you can choose to do. Of course, you don't need to grind in sacred stones, it's super easy unless you are on the harder difficulties, which in that case it's an actual challenge. But leaving the option for those who aren't as good at the game is something I would recommend just so they don't get left feeling soured by their experience.
    That said, all the problems I addressed are bad communication. The people who personally think phoenix mode sucks (I'm in that camp), some made it sound like it was a game breaker that ruins the ENTIRE game. Fates had way more issues to make that seem like an eyedrop anyway. When people say you shouldn't grind, that ends up sounding elitist simply because some people just aren't good enough to beat sacred stones with a Seth only run. The moment you say they should "Git Gud" you prove my point.
    But even these people are a minority of the people who play the game. The Silent majority barely cares about any of this shit, it's just the squeaky wheels making everyone else look bad. 10,000 people can be amazing, wonderful people, but the one guy who terrorizes McDonalds workers is the only one anyone cares about. That's just reality.

    my critic to fe12 it is not kris, but rather that they had prepared the game better than shadow dragon and never got outside japan, ironically kris was like a patch for the dificulty of some part of the game, imagine a patch that make him not an avatar and with fix growths.
    but the same critics could be with a lot of games, fans loves the game but it is like a secret that not everyone could play the same, not because the player but for the developers.

    I for one can be negative at times, and I fully admit I'm not a big fan of some entries of the series. But it's not just a blanket "KAGA GOD NEW GAEM DUM" for me. I don't particularly like Fates, but I was introduced through Awakening- my favorite game winded up being Thracia 776.
    In my experience, other fans I'm close to (and myself) critique the games because we love the series and want it to be the best it can be. We talk about the entries we love and why we love them, but we also talk about the ones we're not so big on and why we don't love them- and when we differ in our opinions, we discuss it.
    No, the fanbase isn't perfect, but show me one that is.

    I honestly used to not like Awakening due to Robin, but watching Mangs' old playthrough of it made me enjoy the game a bit more. Fates the only things i would like to see is how the game would've been with Leo/Takumi as the main characters. I'm all for self insert characters but don't make them steal the spotlight from everyone. Idk about how Kris is but the best game with a created character i've played is White Knight Chronicles. They make you the assistant of the main character and you follow and help with his journey but you don't impact it to the point where you take all their shine away.

    My one and ONLY problem with the FE Emblem fanbase is the overexaggerated and unnecessary hate against Awakening and Fates SPECIFICALLY. Now hear me out on this one, if you already saw this a million times then feel free to ignore my comment:
    FE awakening and Fates were no where near as bad as some people make it out to be, yes there were many missed opportunities and yes the stories are pretty weak. But you cannot dent that they are still enjoyable games with many and MANY positives about them such as Awakening literally being the saving grace to the franchise, the characters were a delight, the gameplay was really good in Fates and fixed the issues in Awakening’s broken combat, and the devs TRIED. If you look at Awakening and Fates they probably put more effort into Awakening and Fates than any other Fire Emblem game, just look at how different Awakening and Fates are, the combat has improved, the animations had improved, the characters are actually better (save for a few), and if you look at the actual intentions of the stories Fates actually had a better story. No doubt they tried everything they could to make Fates better than Awakening in every way possible and yeah there may have been some that Fates fail to accomplish but it did do better than Awakening in many of what it offered. Now that’s not to say that Awakening is worse than Fates, Awakening does have a better Avatar (honestly Robin is awesome and actually has more character than Chrom, Chrom is awesome and all but in my opinion Robin shines brighter in terms of personality just look at his numerous supports and see how many different emotions Robin has, compared to Chrom’s limited but same straight forward personality with very few different expressions), their support conversations are better, it’s game filled with Easter eggs, and it had better children (and also made more sense and more fitting than Fate’s deeprealm idea which is...honestly stupid as hell) they’re far from perfect games and they’re definitely not better than most off the Fire Emblem, (seriously the games before Awakening was Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem which to be honest they weren’t good not horrible but I would rank Awakening and Fates higher than those two) but they are better than some. From what I’ve seen the biggest reason why people hate Fates and Awakening is that it’s too animeish and the supports make it seem like Waifu Emblem and I will say...I do not blame you for thinking that but that doesn’t mean that’s what makes it s bad game, the characters are good and are in no way terrible, hell even Camilla, Tharja, and Charlotte aren’t terrible characters, Tharja is completely capable of loving a character that isn’t Robin and she has a heart even if on the outside she can be a total bitch but she still has somewhat of a caring side as shown with Nowi, Camilla is an older sister only being younger than Xander SHE CARES she genuinally cares and even though she is mostly shown with fan service and such but her actual character is almost always ignored even when she was shown in Warriors where she was literally at her best and she was still hated for because of her fan service in Fates, and Charlotte my god she had more fan service than Camilla but she is by far the most tamed and the best gold digger there is to offer she might be able to switch quickly from a fragile and sweet girl to a violent bitch but she has a big heart and seeing her actions when she is Corrin’s wife she is someone who can very easily be misunderstood yes she may be 100% fanservice and yes she is very easily forgotten and over looked because of her not being a main character and a character that doesn’t come with a child but Charlotte has one of the more interesting backstories and better hearts than most characters despite her bitchy moments. They’re not bad characters with Tharja being ranked decent and Camilla and Charlotte ranked good in my book they do not deserve the hate that they get (Tharja I get but she still gets too much). Yes they were clearly designed to be Waifu characters and yes I can understand why people would think that Awakening and Fates are nicknamed Waifu Emblem, but I will say this THEY. ARE. ONLY. MINOR. NEGATIVES. They take the marriage system too deep into account and they over hate the games because of it, the supports are literally what they are to the game supports, are they needed no, are they a big part of the game yes, do you have to do them no. Look at the earlier Fire emblems and ECHOES you can go through the entire game without seeing a single support possibly going through it with seeing about 3 supports at most (I know I didn’t see the supports that much at all when I played through Echoes) some would say “that’s good no more of that Waifu shit” but that would take away a lot of the possible character developement that the characters would have, do you have any idea how much hate Faye gets and would’ve been fixed if she wasn’t limited to 2 supports and it was only with Silque and Alm, I wanted to see Faye support with Celica, and Tobin, and Gray, and Kliff, possibly even Clair and Sonya but no she was limited to 2 people and her character was hurt because of lack of development. Do I think supports are needed yes it would help build up characters better. Did Awakening and Fates do their job with that? Yes. Is it a perfect system? No but it’s a system that could work and a system that needs some tweaking to perfect but it was broken system still enjoyable and developed the characters well. Awakening and Fates are bad games and they’re far from the worst, neither are they bad Fire Emblem games and to be honest Fire Emblem was always animeish some may say that the characters acted more realistic in the older ones which I never understood what they meant by that especially since there are some anime’s that do tend to act more realistic in terms of characters and situations, they’re uncommon but that doesn’t mean there’s a norm to how anime characters act. Awakening and Fates get WAY TOO MUCH hate than they deserve and after seeing how some of the Fanbase treated Fire Emblem Warriors I damn near got cancer just reading the toxic and hate filled comments, and Heroes is no better with the voting gauntlets and character variants and costumes. And they’re all still great games but unfortunately their connection to Awakening and Fates can cause a huge encyclopedia of hate comments about the character or even game for that matter and I don’t think Awakening and Fates deserves that much especially since the Dev teams really did work hard on those to make them the best they could.

    I don't really care if someone hates a certain game or character, it's when people defend the censorship and cuts to the games under the guise of localization. I get cultural differences and whatever but everything that's in the original Japanese game, whether it's character personalities/side features/outfits/etc, should be in every other version of the game. Localization should only translate the dialogue and add in voices, not censor shit because ''it's not appropriate for the West and think of the kids.''

    I think the fanbase is positively critical but negative in how they enforce their criticisms because as you stated each game has its flaws and perks so picking out a particular one and spewing the same reason over and over as to why one game is "bad" with no further criticisms good or bad can be seen as hostile. I do think people with the new fire emblem games are a bit too critical of "playstyle" because that is of course the individuals choice you can't make someone play classic over casual and silly stuff like that does NOT make a fire emblem game bad. The criticisms are more often born of love for the series rather than actually hating it.

    I know this is an old video, but I figured I might as well add my two cents. I imagine part of the resentment on the part of "old players" comes from the natural reaction that anyone has when a large number of newcomers enter your home, neighborhood, country, or fandom. You love this place, and you hate the idea that it might one day stop looking like the place you love and grew up with. So, naturally, you are suspicious and critical of the newcomers. If there were just a few of them, they would have to play by your rules and respect your traditions, but with so many of them, they might be able to force your place to change to suit them.

    Being an older FE fan... I'm in my 40's, not that I'm only a fan of the older games. I don't see the difference between the FE fandom and the fandom of any long-running video game franchise, movie franchise or TV series. Eventually, it becomes popular/cool for the original fans to hate on, make fun of, or leave the fandom. FE isn't special in this phenomenon. I still enjoy the games for what they are, and I don't care that a lot of people hate on the new games. I know that will always happen no matter how amazing or terrible the new games will be. There are a lot of other things to worry about in life besides negative FE fans.
