I had that same pioneer intergraded amp you have and I just found a sleeper vintage receiver at a thrift store last weekend it's a realistic Sta- 2270 60 watts per channel it's a sleeper I only paid $40 for it because it came from radio shack at late 70s and it's not a pioneer marantz or sansui no one pays attention to it and they are cheap and I owned a lot of vintage stereos and I wasn't sure I was going to like this but once it warmed up it sounds amazing I highly recommend it because you can get them for around $40 and designed and built in Japan and you can control everything I have never seen some of these controls before it's my favorite. I have a big 1.75 oak cabinet I covered .5" MDF and glued oak down with floor adhesive sprayed the inside with 4 cans of Clear flex seal and used carpet pad and braced it really good it's a tank. Im going to use the Dayton Reference 10" paper version ,I was going to try to make it a two way with a Dayton audio reference tweeter. I use gold trim in my design where I routered the edge like a column in a museum or something with a big 3" thick top and bottom they are tanks and I was going to mix 24 carrot gold dust in my tung oil and mineral spirits finish but I got a great idea from you to use the mark audio chr 90 for a mid range so I don't have to cross the tweeter so low and it's gold and will look awesome. Great to see you back, loved the origin story and design philosophy. Did you ever try any of the Dayton Point Source full range drivers? I built the Singularities and while they aren't perfect they are pretty impressive. They also give me similar vibes I've heard from good live sound PA speakers and I think a lot of that is due to the light weight and efficient paper woofer.
Also, funny you bought the Q150s, as I just bought them as well (also eBay open box) just to compare to the DIY speakers I have and see if they live up to their hype. They are good and for deal I got them at I'd be happy to live with them but I don't like them as much as what I've built thus far which is kinda reassuring that I'm not wasting my time. I would be interesting to see what you can do with those drivers though as I think most of what I don't like happening in the KEFs is due to their crossover, though thats kinda hunch as I haven't looked at measurements as I'm trying to stay uninfluenced while I listen to them.
