CHR Tower Speakers Part 3 | DIY | Markaudio + SB Acoustics | New Crossover | Confronting Zu-Audio
CHR TOWER PART 3
In this video I report the Crossover build, test, measurements for the CHR Towers. After that I compare the CHR Tower speakers to Zu-Audio's Dirty Weekend.
The CHR Towers are a fantastic pair of powerful audio, low bass, high quality speakers. Made in Walnut Hardwood mixed with Euro-Ply and veneer, this design relies on the Markaudio CHR-90 Full-range and the SB Acoustics SB15MFC30-8 Woofer. This is a two way speaker box that impresses by its power, SPL and High Fidelity performance, even using 5" woofer drivers and full-ranges.

In this video I show how did I start the LoVees Full-Range Speaker design. Where did the idea came from and how does it relate to the Boenicke W-5 compact bookshelf speaker. We set up our goal, sketched, calculated and developed the enclosure for the LoVees speaker using a Markaudio CHP-70 Fullrange, a Tang Band W-5 side firing subwoofer and a Dayton Audio ND-20 FB Ambient Tweeter. Cool 😎
Yes, I would like to see the larger speaker build next.
What is your favorite Mark Audio driver ?
hi and thanks, no measurements ?
CHR sound is better
How about some new content ? I like your videos Hope you are well You should check out the video on GR Research on those DW’s Those metal tweeter horns would be an easy replacement/upgrade in performance Regardless, new content please
Mad as a badger!
Hi Can u make a training video how to use use rew to measure speaker of any speaker that you have built so I can copy same
Thank you, great explanation. Only a question: why you didn't fed the BT board directly from the amp's power supply? I'm looking forward to do it myself with my amp
Do you sell your builds?
Great design. What product are you using to coat the front baffles black?
Hey there! Thanks for watching! I use that matte black rust oleum spray and matte clear coat as well. All at Home Depot. Simple stuff.
Hello from Brazil! Does the website still work? I could not find
Website is off for now. I didn’t have much time to work on it lately. Valeu Thiago!!!
I so want to build these speakers! I have a problem though, the Markaudio CHR line is no longer available in the U.S., as far as I can tell, since Madisound is permanetly closed. That wouldn't be nearly the issue if I knew how to build my own x-overs, but I dont. Are there, or do you have different speaker options that you have worked out?
Ops. Is Madisound closed? Website is working for me. They show the CHR still but maybe CHP would work well. I’d need the drivers to make the crossover. I have another design coming up which is the CHR 3 way. With super tweeter and 10 inch subwoofer on the side, maybe you could wait a bit.
Great Video
Thank you my friend!!!
Video @ 29:18 , showing the frame of this Markaudio transducer not strong enough. Distorted due to uneven tightness of screws.
Thanks for watching Gary!! Thats right the frame is plastic so that was not the final tightening. It needs to sit for a day so the foam gets in shape then you tighten it again, and even it up. 😎
Thanks!
Thank you Nick! Appreciate it.
what's a plam sander? 😆
It’s that random orbital sander that fits in your hand. Like a flatter one.
@@sonnoradesign that’s a palm sander. Was just having a giggle at the typo in the description
@@threepe0hahaha. Double typo. Shoot!!!
can you use an 8 ohm woofer in this speaker?
Yes. The crossover should change a little bit though. Are you making those? I can check.
They look great. Very much like the Boenicke W5's . Probably sound just as good or better . I don't think the built in stands were necessary , but all in all a fantastic design.
Hey Mark!! That’s right, not really necessary. It does sound really good. Thanks for the input my friend.
Take this as constructive criticism and not an insult but you’re exhausting to watch with all the hey guys. Okay guys. Alright guys. Just stop haha you have good videos without this every 30 seconds…
Thanks Nicholas. That’s good input!
you rock Bernardo - gotta show us some car remodels one day ... maybe also quick explanation on how ported vs closed box works ;)
Right Dylan!! Thanks for the input my friend! Good idea
Love your work. Hey brother, no need to even think about hell. Jesus is Lord!
Thank you my friend!! That’s right!
How about a power fullrange speaker ie mark audio Fr driver and a great subwoofer like peerless XLS or eminence lab 12 driver instead of woofer Need 20hz-20khz
That’s good input. I’ll work on a subwoofer version sometime!!
make video 3!!! Not super clear on how running the signal in parallel to 2 drivers impacts the slope of the audio signal for each driver. Also are resisters mostly used such that you only send certain voltage to each driver based on what they are rated for? This way you don't over power the drivers
One of the best smallish speaker projects on the internet! Very well done, sir!
Wow, thanks! Appreciate it.
Great looking spekers over there!
Thank you Pablo!!!
Amazing finish for your speakers! They looks really awesome! 👍
Thanks for watching!! 🆒
I tried a pair of Lii Song F6 drivers. Shrill and sibilant. The Real Audio guy Jonas, says they need to be broken in very slowly... Then they will stop shreaking. But i blew one up. Going to try the F-6S next... Beautiful orange plastic baskets!
Haha thanks man. I’ve been playing them night and day, it already sound better. Also I added a little filter to lower the highs for now. Let’s see after broken in.
Good man. My guitar has been neglected since i started building hifi stuff.
Hahah. Right! You will find her back one day.
You must have gotten my message! 🎉
I probably did my friend!!! Good drivers
I get a Sonnara design notification, I get interested, I like those Li speakers they look nice,!!! Let's make some speakers!!!
Let’s do it My friend!!!
Very nice! What amplifiers do you have to try this one?
Im using a peach tree nova300 with a Schiit tube pre amp on the loop. I should try the old Peach tree, class AB
Excited. Your videos are the best!
Glad you like them Matt! Thanks
I love your channel! I learned a lot from you. Can I ask you the dimensions of the box? Thank you
It should be on the description right? 25 x 10 x 13.5 inches
Where is the analysis of the design based on which you decided to make this box? where are the response, phase, impedance, delay, offset curves and generally all their reasoning and design work? i'm sick of seeing carpenters copy random boxes and call them speakers... you tried to copy the design that came with the speaker which is at least wrong, not to say false... the correct design for this particular speaker , it is 40lit total volume, with a 72mm diameter tuning tube and a total length of 165mm without flared ends, and F3 frequency from 41hz to 46hz depending on the damping material, and the size of the room...
Hey brother, l just stumbled across this channel and am really enjoying it! I've been building speakers on and off since the early 2000's and am ready for my next project. I learned my way into DIY via the guidance of guys like Paul Carmody and Jeff Bagby. I played with full range speakers early on and was just so disappointed with the outcome. I would always have major spikes anywhere between 800Hz to 3KHz that just couldn't be tamed regardless of how much filter you threw at it. It looks like technology has come a long way. If you're ready to share plans I'd love to make this my next project. I look forward to hearing from you! I'll do you proud!
Hey Greg. Thanks for the input my friend. I really wanna upload the designs one day. For now there are some info on the video description. Check it out.
Hi Bernardo, any way you could show a pic of the actual crossover. First try for me and I'd like to see what it's supposed to look like. Thanks!
You need to test the Heco Aurora 300 dudes its nice, b.t.w nice build bbut d man...
🥰
Tengo una pregunta. Come se dice "all right guys" en español?
Hahah. No lo sé!!
Come for the build, stay for the awesome music!
Ahaa! Andrew Jikh. I might have misspelled. Thanks my friend.
I love this speaker and I want to build this diy Do you have this speaker plans and crossover network ? I want to buy a plans I really want to make this!!
Hey my friend!! Thanks for watching. It’s all on the video description.
Sou Carioca
Woohoo. Me too
Fala Bernardo
E aí mano?
If anyone is interested in the Artist and track listing you played through your speakers at the end of your video. I used Shazaam as I enjoy Latin Jazz, Salsa, besides other genres. The track is: 'Bugalu Arrastrandose by John Runefelt
Great input!!! Thanks
I really liked the project and his skill with wood. I would like to do it but as two separate speakers without the amplifier. What do you think?
All doable man. The boxes are separated anyways. Works great!
Sand It... Sand It.... Lovely...
Right!!! Hehe
You are a great guy.... Thank you for this video.....
Thank you for watching!!
Good Job :)
Thanks 😁
Very nice work! Thanks for all the effort making this video. What enclosure calculator did you use?
Thanks for watching Dave. I’ve been using WinISD.
