I've been super hype for Deepwoken since I discovered it last year, and while the game was totally magical for the first couple days it's kinda started falling off for me. That happens with every game of course, it happened with Rogue too, but Rogue remained interesting long after I first started playing. I fear the same doesn't apply to Deepwoken. I think my biggest problem with Deepwoken, is that they cut a lot of the islands from the leaks/directs. Much of the community kinda latched onto those places due to the lack of info, and they were a massive part of Deepwoken's pre-release identity. I had miner's landing set as my desktop background for the last 5 months and dreamed of exploring it every time I looked at it. Realizing it wasn't in the game was heartbreaking for me. The same goes for Meteor isle (the direct island with the stone arch on a cliff) and the others too. Another problem I have is that the progression feels like it doesn't have as much soul to it as Rogue did, if that makes sense. As if the game lacks a strong sense of community. There's more things to build for, more shit to do, but Rogue had you constantly interacting with other players. Be it fighting them or befriending them. Yeah Rogue's community was toxic as hell, but it was so fun just walking up to people in sentinel and having a chat, or finding a chill ultra. In Deepwoken it feels like, for the most part, people are all off just doing their own shit. I do appreciate how there are more goals to aim for, like unlocking other magics and finding other weapons, but I feel the game could benefit from a lot more quests, maybe semi random ones like "go to X and do X." Shit with interesting objectives that wouldn't just be boring delivery quests like in Tales. At the end of the day, I feel like I got hyped for the wrong game. Deepwoken has changed so much compared to the small leaks we got. Watching hours of theory content on them from people like Lord Sendo probably didn't help much lmao. All the things I liked and thought were especially cool just don't seem to exist anymore, except for the combat. Hell NPCs aren't even as smart as I'd hoped they'd be. Why do the NPCs in fakewoken have better pathfinding/mixups than the ones in Deepwoken? Like bruh. I never expected too much from Deepwoken, I just expected something different. Game is definitely still good, but it's not what I dreamed about playing for so many months.
Man. Absolutely same. Like literally, even when I discovered when Deepwoken existed lmao, one thing to add tho. Rogue Lineage, although It has more soul than Deepwoken, It is flawed from having that factor, let me explain. In rogue the factor of killing players to progress made this happen, the problem is that It was wayy too unfair, and made the game unplayable without a guild. I think why Deepwoken came out the way It did, was because of the "philosophy" Ragoozer put into Deepwoken. Instead of focusing on adding things into the game, ragoozer focused a Lot more in polishing the game. And you can see It by How much the combat feels clean, the combat feels Very polished, and is skill based for the most part, but It shows How much the game has grown since then. And ragoozers probably done this to every aspect of the game, the problem, however is since he focused so much on polishing that the game released in pretty much bare bones, It was an incredible bone, but still bare bones. I think maybe from a year from now, Deepwoken might actually become the game we wanted. Update 1 added a Lot of interesting mechanics, that are amazing, they were few, but If the game had that feeling that these additions have, is the Deepwoken I also dreamed of. Maybe i'm a little optimistic, but I still have Hope It can actually turn out kinda Crazy. Remember, bare bones.
@@lulinhass927 This has been my running theory lately as well. I like to say that Deepwoken is a solid foundation without any walls. What we really need, more than anything, is more content, and a lot of it. My guess is that the game will be like Sea of Thieves. Pretty lame at first but over the years it grows and grows. I want to see a lot more side content and other things to progress. I think the new oath was a step in the right direction but the fact that it requires a ton of really rare items just makes it tedious rather than fun. Earning/progressing an oath should require a challenge to prove your skill. Game wants us to fight corrupt owls? Sure, that's a good challenge, but the fact that it makes us spend hours searching for them kinda fucks that up. That's kind of a problem with the entire late game actually, everything you can aim for just involves boring tedium. Want a bell? Go farm Primadon for an entire irl day because he has a 30 minute cooldown. Want Tacet? Have fun killing 30 goddamn players without even knowing where on the map they are. Visionshaper? I just went over that one. This game design is reminiscent of Rogue Lineage and it worries me for the future of the game. Shit like Solan's Sword and Tomeless were just like this, boring tedious chores that took you hours. Deepwoken desperately needs to rework these because honestly I'm just becoming less and less motivated to play the game when all these cool abilities are locked behind hours of bullshit. As for Rogue, I do realize that what made it special was also a flaw. Being forced to kill other players to progress is such a wacky concept and no other developer/studio in the history of ever has had the balls to try it, at least to my knowledge. Though, I believe that measures could have been put in place to prevent boosting, make the game flow better, and reduce the tedium of certain aspects. Making Tomeless and Sigil Helm available to chaotic characters (or having chaotic reskins/new chaotic areas) and adding a trainer specifically for base passives (pit dodge, merc carry, curse shield) that doesn't require weapon xp would be massive and wouldn't even require much effort on the part of the developers. In the current state of the game you need to spend like 3 fucking hours getting this shit before even starting to progress any chaotic class, much longer if you plan to get tomeless. Being forced to get all these things sooner rather than having the option to get them later makes the early game really suffer and causes getting any character started to kind of suck ass as a result. Players become too afraid to take risks because they just invested hours getting this character started, and they're too afraid to fight other players. To avoid the risk, they just grip alts. Don't even get me started on silver either, trinkets are bullshit and there should be easier ways to make larger amounts of money as a super (for a higher risk preferably.) In the end, Rogue's problem is that it was practically designed around boosting, without ever realizing it. The game failed to adapt to it's playerbase, and suffered because of it. Aside from that though, I really think Rogue had more soul in the terms of it's world. Deepwoken's world feels so fragmented and disconnected, like it's trying to be multiple things at once. The lore isn't that appealing for the most part either. Characters talk about these places or these things but we never get to actually go see them ourselves. Islands like Aratel feel empty and needlessly large. The world feels like it is stylistically in conflict with itself. Songseeker is just as far from Vigils as Etris is yet it's a completely different "biome" entirely. Erisia feels like the perfect transition in biomes. It's near both Etris and Vigils and has similar aspects to them, while also remaining stylistically unique. Kind of ironic considering Erisia drifted in from out of nowhere and is technically completely "out of place." Regardless, I feel that Deepwoken should introduce several new islands to really smooth out the transition between these biomes, because sailing around the corner of a tropical paradise and ending up in an endless winter just doesn't feel right. Wow sorry for that tangent lol. I really do like to complain about bad game design. Here's to hoping Deepwoken improves. Screw it here's to hoping Rogue gets one final update that fixes everything I just mentioned. Maybe Rag will get Nostalgic and make something for Rogue just for the fuck of it. Have a good one, and thanks for reading if you made it this far.
@@sagehanson190 A Man can dream. I Just wanted to also say, that, the reason rogue Lineage world turned out more immersive, is because of what the world Tells you. In Deepwoken you're only told the world is in ruin and a chaos, in Rogue Lineage, however you can feel that setence being proven. @@internetaddict9767 That I have. I never really dropped Deepwoken if I'm being honest, it's always been a game that I come back to, just to progress a new build or hang out with some friends. But, the entire time, I'd been waiting on Layer 2 with baited breath. In my mind, there were two distinct directions they could take the game. Either they could simply expand upon the game they had already made, or they could turn the game into what they said it would be- what it was always meant to be. I had hope it would be the latter. Deepwoken was rushed after all, maybe they really would go back and deliver upon their failed promises. Maybe they'd turn the game into something more than a bandit beater, or at least rework progression to some meaningful extent. Layer 2 was the former. I think that all the content Layer 2- or I guess I should say Verse 2- adds is great. There's so many new weapons, so much new gear, new locations, a proper late game, and greatly expanded build variety. And I think that's awesome. I've had a lot of fun progressing all sorts of different builds with my friends. The second layer itself is a lot of fun (fuck the wind though oh my god,) even though I haven't even seen the second floor yet. The game was terribly starved for content and, well, we got content. A lot of it. I love the new oaths, though I feel like the methods of obtaining most of them aren't very challenging or interesting. Oh man, kill five people in the depths for contractor? Sacrifice 4 people for linkstrider? This is literally just goddamn Rogue Lineage, I thought we were past this shit. You already know I'm gonna be alt farming when the time comes. But, despite that, it's fucking sick to have so many different options, and I love that each oath functions as a sort of 'pseudo class,' each with their own moves and gameplay focus. Verse 2 brings a LOT to the table- and the game doesn't feel nearly as barren anymore. Again I'm so happy with all the new shit. But at the end of the day, Deepwoken still isn't the game I wanted. Combat is- well I've come to realize that it's not what I really wanted either. I wanted them to remove the weapon stats and weapon scaling so that you might have to actually find and earn your weapons in the world, outside of randomized loot, because as it stands weapon stats only serve as a divider between the weak and the progressed. I wanted the pve damage scaling removed and the monsters hp rebalanced so that even a goated power 1 could take down an enforcer- without spending ludicrous amounts of time standing still, cycling between M1 and F, that is. I wanted them to nerf dodging in pvp so that it didn't completely invalidate feinting. Progression is still... ugh. I was hoping they'd smooth it out a little bit, add more islands, more ways to farm. Unfortunately not much has changed. Starswept is still as bland as ever despite the fact that you'll be spending half your time progressing there. I wouldn't even mind farming there if it weren't for how boring and static the atmosphere is. The removal of luck is very nice and so is the XP boost, but progression still isn't really all that different. What I was really praying for was that diagonal progression they promised so long ago. They said you'd be able to progress without even fighting _anything._ I wanted to play as a warrior merchant, or a pacifist thief, or a or a hired thug who made money on the side as a chef. I wanted to roam the world, delivering high value cargo to various towns and villages, in danger of players making off with my shipments at any time. I wanted to steal packages from forts and castles. Imagine having to dodge guards and parkour through the rafters of an expanded Lord Regent's manor, where falling meant instant death- only to grab your MacGuffin and realize you had to do it all over again on your way out. Unfortunately we didn't get anything close to these. I was so excited to see Miner's Landing and Meteor Isle- and setting foot on them for the first time was magical. But I think it was when I finally stepped out onto that cliff edge and passed under that stone arch that I realized this Deepwoken would never be the one we saw in the direct. The sky is no longer that hazy white that it was in all those leaks and screenshots. The old islands look different, changed to fit the new style. The world doesn't feel lonely and solemn anymore- there's NPCs around every corner. And, while I expected some light steampunk elements, I think they went a little too hard on it. Deepwoken is still fun, and I still enjoy it, but I don't think it will ever be the game I hoped it would. I think that's okay, though. I've kinda moved on thanks to Verse 2. I think the game will still get better over time, and I'll still be here, eagerly awaiting every weekly patch. Even so, I suppose I'm gonna have to wait a little bit longer for that special, 'diagonal' game that I thought Deepwoken would be. Finally, if you got this far, I appreciate you asking for my opinion. I'll take any excuse to rant about Deepwoken. Have a good one, I hope you're enjoying Verse 2 as well.
I thought there would be diseases and that temperature would matter also a crazy endgame stealth missions more islands. More towns that are acually better than the default towns would be safe. Maybe even blizzards or something cool. Instead it's just go to Etrea sail the same path to Etris beat bandits get loot sell go to better island repeat
I went into the game with little to no knowledge on how to properly progress and it’s been one of my favorite game experiences.I’m hoping it stays as non-toxic as it is rn
I just stumbled upon your channel and I'm happy I did because yea, what you addressed in this video is true. Deepwoken won't suit and be the thing for just everyone who buys it but it isn't exactly niche either. I have high expectations of the game but I don't think I'd be disappointed. You don't really see people making content like this nowadays. Keep up the grind, you earned yourself a sub!
Deepwoken Is more than just a game to me. I was feeling suicidal for over a year due to medical issues and deepwoken has helped me alot to get through it, having a goal to wait for, for someone like me, was priceless. I can't thank rag and arch enough for helping me get through it.

The main reason I am moving to this game is because a lot of rogue players are moving out so I guess we lose one era for a new era. The nostalgia is gonna hurt but I guess it’s time I move on.
Yo Idk what this guy is on about. Didnt even watch the vid. Deepwoken isnt a game. It's life. We waited a lifetime for it. I will play it for a lifetime. My grandchildren will hear about my adventures in deepwoken. My peers in school will hear about my guild coming to the top. Deepwoken.Is.Life.
Yo bro, is deepwoken gonna be better than rogue? Because I dont want to buy it just to be spawn camped. I just want a little bit of piece without sweats beating me down for fun

Honestly i just want to explore the map and chill with people while messing with magic lol
don't worry, you'll have plenty of space to explore

"At the end of the day deepwoken is a bandit beater, because there are bandits, and they will beat you." - Makara, 2021
THEY WILL BEAT YOU
I thought there would be diseases and that temperature would matter also a crazy endgame stealth missions more islands. More towns that are acually better than the default towns would be safe. Maybe even blizzards or something cool. Instead it's just go to Etrea sail the same path to Etris beat bandits get loot sell go to better island repeat
People including me thought this game was actually gon be something…
at first I was like wth ofc its a game but now I get what you mean by that
The floor is made out of floor.

Deepwoken is not just a game...It's a lifestyle
this is true
I went into the game with little to no knowledge on how to properly progress and it’s been one of my favorite game experiences.I’m hoping it stays as non-toxic as it is rn
bad news
Finally somebody that understand that calling it Rogue Lineage 2 isn't an insult. I share your opinions 100%.
Thanks my boy! Also yeah, if your expectations are in the right place you're REALLY going to enjoy it.
true, true. I agree with your statement

The nostalgia is gonna hurt but I guess it’s time
I move on.

I mean the community is still up in the air, but like I said in the video, if you enjoyed or WANTED to enjoy Rogue for what it was SUPPOSED to be, you will like Deepwoken.

"Game" so we talking like.. Skyrim, zelda, fallout, dragon age inquisition, type of "game" if so.. I probably won't be playing any game but deep for about 3 weeks straight then I will start taking periodic 2 hours breaks as I continue to play deep every single day😃
