Another astoundingly detailed release from Class One Model Works has arrived. This time, it's in the form of 86 foot boxcars with the kind of detail we're coming to expect from Class One.
In this spotlight, we're lucky enough to look at three of these models, including both the four and eight door versions.
From the Class One Model Works website: Between 1963 (when Thrall constructed the first two prototype cars) through 1978 (when Greenville supplied the last 86-foot, 6-inch hi-cube auto parts cars), the fleet of these freight cars swelled to 11,073. Of the commercial car builders, Thrall Car Manufacturing assembled 3,544 cars, placing them in the middle of the pack (production number-wise) between Greenville and Pullman-Standard. Thrall supplied cars from 1964 through 1973.

These boxcars have really grabbed my attention as I am a big fan of high cube box cars and I own 3 Greenville boxcar examples from Tangent Scale Models, I will definitely purchase some of the Class One series boxcars in the future once I have my funds available. These boxcar models are well detailed and attractive and for my own personal choice I most likely will purchase the Illinois Central, Santa Fe and Erie Lackawanna examples of these high cube boxcar models.

Great looking models. I would love to see someone make a car with working cushion coupler pockets.

Those are fantastic. The SP car’s graphics are really striking. I’m wondering about the couplers; they look cool.

    Nice review John
Minimum radius so that they can run them around; and then what's requested radius so that they'ren't over the bend sight??
Found out they were produced & sold from early 60s to mid 70s; though from when till when were they in service.
    Answers are really appreciated.
    Saludos

Hi Ricardo I'm not in my office again until next Monday. I will try to remember to check if I can find any information about that. I'd be surprised if they didn't list min. radius info on the website.

Went to their website to order a couple of the grand trunk and western ones and they must be out of stock because they say pre-order what a bummer

The crossover platforms should be nice and flat, not curled like are on these models. A guy on RUclips did a review on the Conrail version and found photo's of the cars with the same road numbers - the lettering didn't match the car in the photo very well. While the model itself decent, ClassOne seems to have dropped the ball on copying the lettering from the prototypes not very accurately.
