      Nice! Highly recommend. They are great models! P42s are some my favorite locomotives too. Thank you for watching!

    Grills have to be molded in to avoid them falling out like on some other models. The led could be brighter but I prefer that they last longer. So a thumbs up for your video and kudos to Athearn for another great model!

      I see what you mean. More parts to fall off. I agree with the LEDs. I would rather them last longer. I didn’t mess with the light CV values. Thank for the compliment and thank you for watching!

    This model is great. I got the Amtrak 160 50 th anniversary pepsican livery. Very nicely done. Like your reviews! I also have some of the via rail p42 too.

      I agree, these models are great! I really like the Pepsi scheme. Looks great. Nice, I like the looks of the Via rail P42s. Thank you for watching and for the compliment!

    Shame on Athearn on the number placement issue. They should learn from Rapido and Scale Trains. Hope Athearn start sending out the corrected shell soon.

      @@DrPeppervsDrJill thank you. I appreciate the kind words. I try to be as unbiased as possible. That way the person watching the video can make their own decision on whether they want to buy the model or not. Glad the speaker segment was helpful. Hopefully not all models have the vibration. Thank you for watching!

    Super cool! Athearn always does a good job.
    Where did you get all of those cars you have at your gas station? I’m trying to find more HO scale vehicles for my layout

    • @modelrailroadingthesouthwest
      @modelrailroadingthesouthwest  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for watching! Those cars are unfortunately not HO scale. They are 1:64. I have a hard time finding vehicles in HO scale that I actually like. When I do find an HO scale vehicle that I like, they cost $20 or more. I feel that the 1:64 scale vehicles don’t look too out of place. These vehicles are made by a mixture of brands including Greenlight and Johnny Lighting.

    • @therailfan8947
      @therailfan8947 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@modelrailroadingthesouthwest I have the same problem. Crazy the smaller vehicles cost almost double what the larger ones do, and the selection is a lot smaller. I have a decent sized collection of Greenlight and some Johnny lightning 1/64 cars, too.
      I was going to put some of them on my layout - glad to see I’m not the only one using the larger cars on an ho layout 😂

    • @modelrailroadingthesouthwest
      @modelrailroadingthesouthwest  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@therailfan8947 Yeah it’s ridiculous to see some HO F-250s cost $30 when you can get a nice 1:64 F-250 that looks better for $7.99. Plus you can buy a bunch of cool details for them on eBay like brush guards and tool boxes. Most people can’t hardly tell the scale difference. I’ve been doing it for years and no one has ever called me out on it lol.

      @@modelrailroadingthesouthwest I fully agree. The customization, wider selection, and great price that 1/64 has is awesome. Greenlight is a great brand

    Nice review, but I don’t think you noticed that the rear ladder on the locomotive on the engineer side, is broken. Typical of a lot of Athearn Genesis line as of late - broken or missing parts!

    Question for you. First off great video w lots of detail! I have the same Amtrak 50th however mine has a ton of slop in rear trucks side to side does yours? Is this intentional?

    • @modelrailroadingthesouthwest
      @modelrailroadingthesouthwest  4 месяца назад +1

      Thank you I appreciate the compliment! I don’t think that was intentional. This one doesn’t have any dramatic movement. It just had the usual play that trucks have to negotiate track work. Maybe the truck isn’t seated well in the frame?

    I just received my Athearn P-40DC with sound #824 (Tsunami 2) today. I know that start up happens when you turn on the power, but does it have a shutdown function. I am use to BLI, Walthers, and Rapido that have a shutdown. I also notice horn was really loud and the bell the opposite. Look forward to your reply. Thank you.

    • @modelrailroadingthesouthwest
      @modelrailroadingthesouthwest  5 месяцев назад +1

      I just received the same one on Monday too. There is no shut down sequence with the Tsunami decoders. I noticed the same with both the P40DC and the P42. I had to change the horn volume and the bell volume. I typically change all the sound CV values on Tsunami Decoders. They always seem to be off somehow or another.

      Play with the CVs a little my 108, 66, and 46 did the same. The settings I have for em is; Master Volume 100, Horn 150, and Bell 120.
