I’m from BRLA, & my extended family still lives there; daddy died just before Katrina hit, mama right after. Scary. Just talked to my friend in New Orleans & she said it will hit BR much harder. She said they are expecting more wind than rain. Many 🙏 for their safety.

I’m thanking God today that my family was blessed to make it through Hurricane Katrina by taking shelter in the super dome and getting out of there with our lives 16 yrs ago and able to be relocated to the north Texas area. I’m looking at this hurricane and having play by play flashbacks of what my family endured and praying that everyone gets out of New Orleans because it wasn’t a nice sight to see my beautiful city in the condition it was in after Katrina. I’m feeling so much right now for everyone down there and praying for all 🙏🏽

As a person who lives in dhenam springs Louisiana i got hit hard power went out overnight trees and debris falling everywhere lots of rain but luckily my trailer and 2 trucks and house are okay had to clean up the debris and that after the storm and had to stay in the rv for half a day until power came back on thank you everyone for wishing us good luck it was tough

It's not there yet. They are measuring the winds via satellite and radar tracking it's rotational speed and size at the diameter. When it gets there it will throw the wind meter off the roof at the speeds it's currently at.

(10 in my lifetime and dozens of tropical storms) You leave before the wind and rain starts, obviously not in the middle of it. Prayers for all. One question .....why would anyone wait until a couple hours prior to landfall to evacuate ? Common sense would be to leave a minimum of 2 days before.

Floridan here..evacuating is is not always that easy. There can be many reasons. Lack of funds, needing to stay for a job, lack of transportation, etc. Also, they can have a good idea where it is going or how bad it is going to be, but they are very seldom right on. A slight shift in track and intensity can greatly effect what the storm is like in any particular place. We were not expecting Charley to really be much in Orlando until the day before, but if definitely ended up being quite the event.

I remember this hurricane like it was yesterday. Even all this time later, it was one of the scariest things I had ever experienced.
I remember the moment the eye wall hit. Hearing the screams of terror from my family, and the sound of twisting metal, splintering wood and missiles hitting my home at over 150 miles per hour shot a hole right through my heart. That hurricane took my soul with it when it left my area.
It was as if an EF3 tornado was on top of my house for hours. I remember curling up in a closet, hoping and praying that it would be over soon, too scared to even take my head out from my hands. Still brings tears to talk about it. The fury of a hurricane cannot be understood by anyone who hasn't had a front row seat.
