Excellent washing and restoration job. It is a very comfortable and luxurious car like a Rolls Royce. My favorite is Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II and also the AMG 55 slk 2017
I'm trying to disagree with you but I simply can't. You're right; this is absolutely the best ride I've seen on this channel. Replace those nasty front floor mats with the help of Mercedes-Benz and drive this classic. Freaking awesome car!! 👍👍
You dudes killed it on this one. I’ve been watching your videos for almost a year now. Always love the attention you give these weird forgotten gems. Much love from Detroit!
This is a diplomatic embassy car. This is a 60's era CEO's car. This is a high government officials car. This is absolutely pure class. This would have been parked in front of some very expensive hotels, or mansions in the day. Very beautiful. This is the embodiment of the old adage, "They don't make them like they used to". Thank you.
I think it was often called the Adenauer model since Konrad Adenauer served as the first chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1949 to 1963 so this is what he was often seen in.

Can't tell you guys how important your work is on these old cars. It's reassuring knowing there's a group of young people out there reviving these old gems.
I had a toy of this when I was a kid.....I love these cars......there was one that a person owned in my town in the early 70's.......it was always very cool to see it in motion.
What an amazing job for an amazing car. Love how you understand how to preserve the paint and blended the newer and original paint. I’m very partial to the classic Mercedes cars with the beautiful lines and details. You guys always do an incredible job.
In Germany this car is commonly referred to as the "Adenauer-Mercedes" as this was Konrad Adenauer's, our first Bundeskanzler, first state limousine. Adenauer asked Mecedes later for a car with an extended chassis and a sliding roof.
For the Mercedes purist, you may want to change the title of the video to ...300d!. In the parlance of the M-B lineup at the time the upper case (D) indicated diesel power. While the lower case designated a model variant. Great job. Narragansett Bay
True, but in the US you had also verry beautiful cars in the 50's. In Germany that Mercedes had been called "Adenauer" because the first Kanzler of the new demokratic Germany had one.
I worked for Mercedes-Benz Canada during the early 1970s. The side windows on your 300 were removable so that "royalty" or politicians in the rear seat could see and be seen by the masses on the sidewalk. We sold and maintained a model 600, the "Grosser Mercedes", prized possession of the manufacturer of the Ski-Doo snowmobile. It was even longer and more imposing than your 300, with beautiful but understated interior trim. Its pneumatic suspension suffered in cold Canadian winters, and that fact led to this particular car spending its winters indoors.
This Mercedes became famous because various German Statesman used them, there was one of them Mr. Konrad Adenauer who choose this particular model for many years and this car in the Mercedes Collectors World named it the Mercedes Adenauer. Congratulations, excellent discovery.
Konrad Adenauer. He was West German Chancelor at the time and used this model as his official vehicle. That is why this model was commonly referred to as the "Adenauer'.
Beautiful example of Mercedes "Adenauer " (former German Prime minister using this cars as his Goverment vehicle). You made great job as usuall and I am glad to see it again!!
I had a 1960 330D many years ago. I absolutely loved it, but I was young and I used it daily. It took everything that I earned to keep it on the road. But it was sure a head turner. Mine was almost identical to this one. That sure brings back many fond memories. Thanks for this intriguing video!!
Gentleman, got to say i love these videos. Never thought watching a car (no matter how amazing) get washed would be so relaxing but this feels like therapy. Great work, great videos. Thank you. Can't wait for the next one.
My mother broke her water in that car (my father’s car), yup I did that. I have that vehicle now; same make, model, color and year! Has a very distinct Mercedes purrr to the engine and cloud 9 ride as it glides down the highway. The car series is nicknamed “Adenauer” after the first chancellor of post WWII Germany , Konrad Adenauer, who loved the car so much. Iv believed he owed 2-3 over his lifetime. The original Blaupunkt radio also comes with a short wave radio which is fun to listen to on cloudy days. The car has an interesting history, it was originally owned by the nephew of Milton Hershey, of Hershey, PA, yes that Hershey guy 🍫. Milton never had any children in life and his fortune was left to his nephew and some others His nephew in turn gifted the car to his GF who drove it out to CA where it sat beside a mecinhis family.hanic’s shop with a lien on it for work done on it. My dad saw it one day in 1972 and bought it from him.
I almost bought a car like this one back in the 1970's. Instead, I got the SE coupe which was more sporty looking. At the time these cars were quite inexpensive, around $5-10,000. Today, if you could find a 300D in convertible form [they made a few of them] a restored example would probably cost you several hundreds of thousands of dollars!
The actual Mercedes designation for this car is 300d (W189), not to be confused with the later Diesel 300D (W123 and W124) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_W189
Hey guys, to clean wood, equal parts of linseed oil, turpentine and vinegar makes a nice cleaner. A light buff with the finest grade steel wool will shine it up.
Gorgeous car! You really did a great job on all the little details… I’m glad you didn’t find a body in the trunk because these big Mercedes had kind of a reputation for being the favorite ride of dictators as well as celebs. They were always my dream car and I was able to get a GLC a couple years ago. I love to keep it clean but it needs some serious attention with recent winter weather driving 😂
My father owned a 1959 300D. I took my driver's license test in that car. With only 180hp it wasn't quick but it cruised beautifully. It was an early example of a fuel injected car.
I had a black one with blood red, leather interior. You can recline the front seats flat and make a giant bed. All the windows rolled down and all of the quarter windows come out nothing like it. 300d it was a small D so you didn’t confuse it with a diesel. Order from Mercedes dealer in the early 70s for $750 broke down and I sold it for 500
I lived a Mercedes existence for 17 years when i bought a very used Mercedes 250se convertible and bit by bit brought it back to a beauty. Put it up for auction on Bring a Trailer and it was taken by an Austrian Millionaire. Payday was fantastic. Auction results are still on line at BaT July 2019.
This first wash in ten years can only be the beginning of a full restoration, which the car honestly deserves. It will cost the owner a fortune, but he will get a limo like no other.
Needs a repaint maybe and new carpets, but I'll bet with new plugs and wires, oil changes, tyres and some valeting it'll be a great runner for many more decades.
The carpet is wool. While it has deteriorated, Woolite is a safe cleaner and does a really nice job. The best cleaner for the leather is good old fashioned saddle soap. Follow that with a neutral shoe balm and buff. The seats will thank you. Neat car.

Standard West German govt official car. Called an Adenauer after Konrad Adenauer, the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany). The 300SL is based on this thing.
@@fotorabia Well, the *engine* (M189) is derived from that in the 300 SL (M186); no other great relationship in terms of chassis, body, suspension, or fittings.
I think this was known as an Adenauer and I suspect the styling - especially the absence of a B pillar and the rear window popping out comes from the 1956 Imperial Crown Southampton - put them side by side and you cannot deny the similarity.
Neat car! I know most of the cars you work on do not run, but it would be nice to see them in the sunlight after you are done. The overhead lights reflecting makes it hard to see the transformation. Great job as usual.
For the diesel variant of the 300, there is a control knob on the dashboard which when pulled out controls a rod/cable/switch. The rod/cable connects to the fuel pump and valve, which allows the engine to start. The switch, at the first position, activates the glow plugs, if necessary. If it is warm enough to disallow the use of the glow plugs, you pull past the first stage to the second stage, which engages the starter. As a side note, on the opposite side of the dashboard [to the driver's left side of the steering column], there is a chrome shrouded opening about the size of a silver dollar, behind which is a coil that glows along with the engine glow plugs, so you can see when they are heated. There is also a manual fast idle which may be used for while the engine warms to operating temperature. The way to turn off the engine is to push the knob back in. This turns off the fuel supply. Yes, the engine will run without the key being turned on, or even in the ignition switch, once started. The ignition controls the electricity for the glow plugs, as well as the starter and other electricals in the car. The engine, being a diesel, will run without electricity, as it has a mechanical fuel pump and injectors.

I had a friend who had one of these in the late 60's. It was chocolate brown but it did not have an engine. All we could do was sit in it and imagine going somewhere. We were in high school in Big Rapids, Michigan and it was a major thrill just to sit in it. The interior was in great condition and the back seat was truly amazing, extremely long like the video said. I moved to Texas so I have not idea whatever became of that car.
Gorgeous car. Years ago my oldest brother had a Mercedes limousine class of roughly the year he was born (late 1970-ies). Everyone in my family are tall except my mom and we all comfortably could stretch our legs in that car.
The Adenauer Mercedes (named after Konrad Adenauer, chancellor of Germany) is a true beauty. I do not understand why you would keep such a car in a basement without cover. The previous paint jobs do not do the car justice. Great what you guys were able to do with the car! It needs a owner that brings the car back to its old glory and drives it’
MB has a few cars that are never outdated looking at them. I also love the 1966 E class 6.2 sel, especially the one featured in the movie The Hangover. This 300D is wow. Currently I am driving a 1991 NSX but it's another kind of wow factor. Lol
Lot's of memories here... We had one of these awesome M-B 300's when I went to middle and high school and my father's car appeared absolutely identical to this one. In fact, it's possible that was his car. I rode to my high school grad dance in the back of that car! It has seen better days, that's for sure. We kept that car clean, polished and waxed to perfection on it's factory black Lacquer paint back in the day. We referred to it as "The Beast From Stuttgart". Ours was still mint when my dad traded it in for a new 1976 Cadillac Eldorado. Then that one was his last car...
What is crazy? 99% of luxurious European cars proposed the same feature in 60's, 70's and 80's . Today's, all the gas cap are closed aswell (but without a keylock)
A great Mercedes, it looks very similar to the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud of the same era. Built like the proverbial tank, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a half-track option. Looking at the paintwork it has lasted way longer than most of the modern Mercedes would after that amount of time. Not technically a "Vintage" car but a great addition to any auto collection.
What did you think of this car? Pretty sweet piece of history right?!

For the diesel variant of the 300, there is a control knob on the dashboard which when pulled out controls a rod/cable/switch. The rod/cable connects to the fuel pump and valve, which allows the engine to start. The switch, at the first position, activates the glow plugs, if necessary. Yes, the engine will run without the key being turned on, or even in the ignition switch, once started.
Lol
"1966 E class 6.2 sel" - sorry, no such car. You're no doubt thinking of a 1966 S Class 300 SEL 6.3.
@@21stcenturyozman20 thanks for the correction, you are right it's more like 1968 to 72
Mr. B. Here ! 🍩🍩☕️☕️👀😎👍. Very cool and very informative ! Royalty!! 🍸🍸🍸🍸👍👍
Incredible job you guys are doing!
The air ride caught me by surprise.😮
*Not air ride.* The rear suspension was torsion bar and the raising/lowering was by electric motor.
This was such a cool car to work on.
I really enjoyed watching this! Fantastic detail on a really cool car
That story about the gas being stolen is nuts, thank goodness that never happens anymore! 😂
What is crazy? 99% of luxurious European cars proposed the same feature in 60's, 70's and 80's . Today's, all the gas cap are closed aswell (but without a keylock)
One of my all time favorite Mercedes. Hope you can find a fin tail Mercedes to detail next. I think it was this cars successor
Very nice! Was very cool to learn about the thickness of paint, and your handy tool for measuring the thickness! Fun project!! Thank you! 😊☮️
