Glad I watched this. Two things that break this expansion-expansion for me: 1) broken roads. Our group HATES this (as the "Earthquake" event card) and have a house rule where this card has no effect. 2) Having to sail to another island only to build up a knight army that may or may not defeat dragons based on their power sounds TEDIOUS AF! Thanks for the heads up.
A group of dragons is called a THUNDER, due to the fact that all their wings beating makes a sound like rolling thunder. Though I've always referred to a group of dragons (either on the ground or flying) as a Flight of Dragons! I suppose this comes from books I read as a young teenager, specifically The Dragonlance Chronicles.
Best explanation of pronunciation ever! Looks like it's a "weyr of dragons", where "weyr" is a collection of dragons, riders, and support staff in Anne McCaffrey's The Dragon Riders of Pern.
(pure facts!) Surely the term of venery for dragons must predate McCaffrey? And it sounds like a "weyr" describes, like... the king's progress, if the king rode dragons instead of horses?
This piqued my interest as the scenario has appeared on my product ads on RUclips. I have both seafarers and c+k. My whole family loves catan. We've all developed a good understanding for both expansions. Hoping to get this soon.
We’ve been playing hobby board games for years, but we only played Catan for the first time a few weeks ago. We liked it a lot, and my son asked for a copy for his birthday (I picked up the 20th anniversary edition). Our FLGS recently got this expansion, and I thought, “Hey, there’s dragons- I like dragons!” But after watching this fantastic video, it just doesn’t look all that fun. So, there’s some money saved. 😅 But am I the only one who thinks the backs of the canal tokens look like bacon? 😄
A quick history of all the scenarios, since you didn't cover everything: #1: TREASURE ISLANDS: Original to the video games (specifically PC and Nintendo DS). Is currently available in Catan Universe. #2: DEPARTURE INTO THE UNKNOWN: Original specifically to TD&A, has appeared no where else. NOT available in Catan Universe #3: THE DESERT DRAGONS: First appeared in 1997, in "Catan-News" (old official magazine, German only), republished in english on the old University of Catan website, and appeared again in the German collections "Das Buch zum Spielen" (from 2000) and "Atlantis" (2005). Back then, it was known as THE DESERT RIDERS, which were just another kind of desert bandits, functions the same. Name changed when included in TD&A. NOT available in Catan Universe. #4: GREATER CATAN: First appeared in 1997, in "Catan-News". This was before Seafarers! So you built 'bridges', instead of ships. It was then included in Seafarers, up until the 3rd Edition, the 4th and 5th don't have it. Reason is that in every previous instance it required TWO copies of the base game to function. Currently available in Catan Universe. #5: THE GREAT CANAL: First appeared in 2003, in "Catan-News". Was also one of the Dutch 'Six Scenarios'. Currently available in Catan Universe. #6: ENCHANTED LAND: FIrst appeared in 2001, in "Catan-News". The dragons used to be Pirate Ghosts guarding treasure. Currently available in Catan Universe.
I run a league in town. So everyone in our league would be interested in it. Myself have never played the PC version, I don't own a sufficient PC laptop or home computer.
A few important things you forgot to mention: -This is the first time TD&A was released in English. -In THE GREAT CANAL, settlements cannot be built on the small islands. Instead, your had to send Knights in order to collect from the Gold hexes, and use the 2:1 ports there. -Also, for the canal you need 21 points in 3-player, 19 for 4-Player. -Similar thing in ENCHANTED LAND: 21 points in 3-player, 18 in 4-player. Alternatively, slaying 6 Dragons will also get you the win.

Thanks, Sebby19! i was fortunate enough for Catan Studio to include me in their early press preview. Thanks for catching my omissions... i think i received the game only a day or two before the press embargo lifted, and i wanted to be among the first to profile the new game!

I noticed that it says 6 sea/desert hex and 12 land hex. What are the backs of the 12 land hex. Are they sea as well, or are they white/blank as in the kosmos version. If they have a sea back, then this would be another improvement in this version.
@@jessicahuitz1691 , first of all I want to tell you that we loved the expansion. There are 6 scenarios and 5 of them are great. We did not like or did not understand scenario 3 but the rest are fabulous. The mistakes are not big and this is what I wrote to them: 1.
