Because Gibson today is not Gibson of the 50s and 60s. Gibson today are making "replicas" of their original models just like every other company making guitars with LP, SG, 335 shapes.
It's been that way for a while. It's why they jacked Epiphone prices into the stratosphere: better quality compared to dollar spent! Gibson's beginner/intermediate "off-brand" was playing more "authentic" than actual Gib$ons... unless Gibson really are just bottom feeding off their legacy. Which I believe to be the case.

Maybach guitars are really excellent! I purchased a Teleman T54 recently and I cannot put it away (review on my channel). The built quality is outstanding and the relicing is very authentic (in my eyes). On my model the pickups are by Amber and do a very convincing job! And my case smells kind of sweet, even after weeks... that's the only thing I have to criticise. Thanks for the entertaining and informative video, was fun to watch :-)
As an owner of a Maybach Lester 58 I disagree about your reception concerning the Amber Spirit with the Maybach Lester. I play it through a Peayey Classic 50 from the 90s, a Fender DeLuxeReverb and - yes - through a Bugera G5 Infinium connected to a box with a Jensen Speaker. Andy, please try a Jensen instead of the Celestion. It is so much clearer and brings all the beautiful tone colours of the Lester/Amber Combo.
Oh man...your honest reactions to loving the guitar and the tones you got out of it immediately spoke volumes! Although I'll thank you to please stop adding guitars to my someday-I-must-have-one list.
Thanks so much for putting this lengthy video together, it's great to hear your opinion and love for this guitar. I've just put an order in for an Albatroz 65 (the SG Junior). I previously owned the Gibson SG Tribute which made me fall in love with the form factor of the SG but I've long desired an upgrade. I've wanted an SG Junior ever since playing a friend's vintage one - The options seem to be pay £1300+ or pay £4000-6000 for an actual vintage one. Until... I saw the Maybach. My god it looks good. I'm hoping to love it, I have to wait less than I thought as I was lucky Thomann were getting one in stock in just a few days. Quick question - You don't mention set up here, but I assume you were happy with the factory feel? Every guitar I buy I usually take for a set up, but usually because its factory set up is awful. I know it can be subjective but do you think it was a good job?
