Excellent examples from extant biology! Interesting that the hoverfly looks like the stinging insects it mimics, but the sound and movement are very different. I truly enjoy your insights.

This episode made me excited!! First...TAS love, of course! Secondly to answer your parting question: the aspects of convergent evolution and mimicry (Müllerian and Batesian) I recall from my Evolution courses and it continues to fascinate! Love love love this topic Dr. Noor! You make it so interesting, thanks @BioTrekkie Explains!

Another prime aquatic example of convergent evolution is Carcinization in which a crustacean evolves into a crab-like form from a non-crab-like form. It's not just in the animal world either. I was recently watching a video about what we call "trees" & what a diverse range of unrelated plants we lump together with that label because they look similar.

What a great episode!! I wonder if I’ve ever mistaken hover flies for wasps(if they live in my area, of course).I definitely avoid that color pattern by instinct, but might take a second look before backing away now.

Thanks much, Carly! I've probably been startled by a few of those myself, too. 🖖
