I know this video is long, but.... I could not fit all of the information into a 10 minute video, so it is what it is, I wanted to make sure you see some examples and reasonings behind why I do certain things.
No problem for the length! We are in a world were everything 'must' go fast! You give me/us the time to learn! I enjoyed every seconds of your explanationt! Thank you!
Another immensely valuable video! Thank you so much for putting in so much time and effort to create these clear and visually appealing explanations! :)
Hi, I’m a 59 year old beginner sewer who fell upon your videos by chance when browsing and I’m so happy that I did. (I hated sewing when I was younger, because of a sewing teacher I had at school!) I absolutely love your detailed instructions and the video shots are so clear and easy to understand. I’ve been sewing for almost a year now - simple things for the home and some easy bags (generally, square/rectangle based stuff) and I’ve not had the courage to feel I was capable yet of moving on to clothes. However, your enthusiasm and explanations have made me change my mind and I can’t wait to get started on some simple tops and T-shirts. Thank you so much. 😊
I'm trying to teach myself to sew in my retirement and sewing necklines & armholes has so far resulted in ruining 3 tops and several more screaming banshee outbursts. I've looked at many many videos wondering 'why can't I just sew the necklines and armholes rolling them in and sewing them before I sew the sides and shoulders. this is the first video that shows me exactly how to do that!!! Now I'm ready to try again. If only I can sew a straight line I may have a chance. I'll try on some old lighter fabric first. God help me if I can't produce a simple tank top!. 😂THANK-YOU! [P.S. I Love the facing idea too! - maybe that's a better option for someone with little patience and technique -oh wait! that looks way too confusing ]
You can teach an old dog new tricks! I haven't done much garment sewing in years but I am getting back into it, I had never seen the Burrito method you showed and it's great. The last time I made a little girls dress I did a similar facing and remember that I had to review the directions several times because my brain couldn't "see" how It would finish. This method with the video simplified it and made the facing lay so nicely. Thank You
Thank you so much! Your tutorial made it easy for me to understand how to make the all-in-one neckline and arm hole facing. I never learned how until you showed us. Your lessons are great!
The video was well worth the time it took to watch it. It is such a great reference video. I've never seen such a good explanation of the burrito method. WELL DONE!
Over the past twelve hours I have viewed several of your tutorials starting from scrappy t shirts up to this one by clicking on the links. I am a visual learner and love how you explained, modeled, and demonstrated the process on each of your videos. I especially like this one and it wasn't a long video to show how to finish the different necklines. Thank you so much. Now, I am off to view the different hem finishes video.
Glad you found it helpful and welcome to the channel :) I try as much as I can to show in details, when we talk about very specific techniques, I find that it makes it easier to understand what's going on :)
i love all your videos and i know that you are the one who will one day get garments on my hangers. you are so easy to watch and YES i understand what you are saying and i know when i am ready i can follow your videos and be proud to say "i made this" Thank you. x
This was very very helpful..!! Now, I know wat technique I could use to hem certain fabrics..!! I just usually double stitch all my garments. Thanks alot !!
What an excellent and thorough video, Alisa! Very well explained. I tend to go with whatever my pattern recommends, though I have used all of these techniques. This really makes me consider changing it up and focusing on what best suits my fabric/finished look. Thank you so much!
Another brilliant tutorial, Alisa. Love your work. Your explanations are always so clear and concise. I have been sewing since I was 10 years old. I am now 68 and I am STILL learning new tricks and tips! Many thanks from this old girl! xx
That is so awesome, you have no idea how happy I am that this is helpful. By the way, there are sewing reference sheets for this video on Google Drive!
My pleasure! I think partially it is the stress when it comes to necklines and zippers, cause often it is one of the last steps and that anxiety of getting it right can sometimes be overwhelming. Here's a detailed video on the invisible zipper - ruclips.net/video/NOJuX6doP2Y/видео.html
I just love watching you videos. I learn all my sewing from RUclips & I'm a grandma taking care of 2 grandchildren. I only sew during weekends when they're not around. I find your videos is very educational & easy to understand & follow. I wanna to say TQVM. 🌷🌷. TQ for being a great teacher. 🌷🌷
Your videos are so clear and easy to understand. Thanks! One thought: perhaps a tutorial on applying bias tape visible on the right side in such a way that the half on the wrong side is 1/8" wider, and then "stitch in the ditch" on the right side with no visible stitches showing on the right side.
watching again for about the 4th or 5th time now. Still haven't made any thing yet (health issues) but i fully intend to. yours is my go to channel. Thank you. x
I’ve been sewing for over 50 years and can’t seem get understitching to lay flat. I will have to try again. I have a huge stash of lots of different fabrics and just haven’t had time to use much of it lately. I also have lots of little girls dress patterns and no grandkids in sight. I really appreciate your telling us about the Dress a Girl project and will have to make a few dresses to donate soon.
Excellent video….I will need to watch the burrito facing method about a dozen times…and make a few practice pieces to master that one!!! Thank you so much!!!
Thankyou so much for this tutorial. So helpful especially with understiching ie, i did not know that the seam allowance is turned toward the bias side. Was never sure so thankyou. And the pin stiching on a delicate fabric is genius. I will be referring back to this video often. Thankyou for all your work on this.
Your explanations are impeccably detailed with precision along with your camera skills. I can’t thank you enough for always taking and making of your time to share all your talents and love of your artistic passions.
Thank you so much for this tutorials the second last was always my big problem , I could never understand how to do it , now that you explain it very clearly , I hope I shall attempt it next time . Tou are a very good teacher .
Alisha, this was such a great tutorial, I’ve been putting off making some tops because I didn’t know how to finish the neckline, but now I have options. Thanks again for sharing ❤
Your English, like your explanations, is truly amazing. I can tell it isn’t your first language so I really admire how much work must have gone into becoming this proficient. Which is why I hope you won’t be offended with the following: both in this and another video, you keep saying “voven“ fabrics. But the word is WOVEN (from the word to weave). So, “wo” as in work, wonderful, or wow. I can hear many words where you pronounce the w in this way, including “working”, weren’t, and “way”. I dared write this comment not to criticise but because I know that, as advanced speakers, we can only eradicate fossilised mistakes and improve our English further by being corrected. I aim only to help. - Big Fan. 😊
Thanks for this. Must have taken ages to put this video together and it is super helpful. I generally go with my gut on how I want to finish the arm holes and glad that I am not the only one who chops and changes depending on the garment!! X
You are such a polished instructor. Thanks so much for sharing. I really needed to see the burrito method. I had a Vogue pattern years ago that used that method. It just didn't make sense to me. It's more clear now. I'll have to watch again, but thanks again! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤❤❤😊
