Dr Bob brings you SCP Foundation Keter Class object, SCP-095-FR The Demon Core Animation.
SCP-095-FR, also referred to as the Object, is a 6.2kg sphere entirely composed of Plutonium 239 in a permanent self-sustained state of critical mass. This results in SCP-095 FR producing exponentially increasing emissions of alpha radiation. Emissions from SCP095 FR greatly damage any electrical circuit within a twenty meter radius and cause serious irradiation of living tissue, specifically bone. But the deadliest aspect of SCP 095 FR is that the object seems to spontaneously induce a nuclear explosion.

Yeah, due to the IRL history of the Demon Core, if I made it an SCP, it would be the same giant chunk of radioactive matter, but, being in proximity to it, even when shielded to the radiation, it would cause impaired judgement and reckless behavior.

For those curious, the Demon Core is a more literal version of the IRL Demon Core, based on the true incident during the Manhattan Project. In fact, this video is a pretty accurate description of the events that happened, save for the whole "souls of the damned" thing going on with the SCP version. Kyle Hill on YT has a really good video about it, if anyone wants to know more.
I think this SCP exist because of Kyle Hill video, I remember around 7 month ago, somebody said "Wow this should be SCP." somewhere on the comment.

That scientist was messing with a potentially critical sphere of plutonium and wasn't even wearing any safety equipment.
Back then, we never knew radiation was a thing so people would literally handled radioactive materials with our bare hands.

Though the real demon core may not have those supernatural properties this this scp, it still caused a blue glow of radiation when it was encased in its shielding and cost at least four scientists their lives from radiation poisoning. Kyle Hill does a good video about it too in his half life series

During a demonstration Screwdriver slipped, dome closed, flash of blue light, it was stopped and I’m pretty sure everyone in the room had severe radiation poisoning and/or died

Yeah, actually I had the idea when reading about the real demon core, after seeing a couple of documentary about chernobyl and manathan project. I was passionate about nuclear physics back in ~2012 when I finished my chemistry technician studies, I even briefly worked in radioactive environments at an hospital. So I tried my best to write an scp historicaly and scientifically accurate, barring for the clearly supernatural stuff physically impossible ^^
This is a good take on the actual demon core. The real core gave lethal invisible beams/waves of radiation that would basically cause instant cell death when it was focused with the deflector
The way Dr Bob casually plays and uses all the SCPs at the end of his videos makes me think he is the ultimate SCP

It was an idea during the first iteration of this SCP, but I finally ditched it because I was not fan of the Foundation actually using an SCP, I was feeling that it would render it less dramatic or dangerous

gonna be honest every single time im at a boring patch in a game or waiting for a timer or even installing a game. i hop on youtube to watch shorts but see a new(as in ones i havent seen yet) dr bob video and end up taking 10-15 minutes to vibe out and watch it. my 5 minute breaks extend to however long your videos are. i love your content. im seeing a lot of old videos i havent seen yet and i always watch your new ones. you are my favorite scp animator/explainer and the only one i enjoy because the others ive seen arent as good. you set the bar pretty high. thankyou and keep up the amazing content.

Yea I was wondering if this was simply a recreation of the Louis slottin incident. Using a screwdriver was such an insanely stupid decision and he killed not just himself but essentially like 7 other people.

I personally think the story about the real "Demon Core" is better than this video's beginning anecdote, mainly due to the impressive courage/recklessness exhibited by the actual scientists. It's a much more interesting story when scientists are being reckless of their own volition than for some higher up to be demanding their near guaranteed deaths as if they were D-class. It was also a real life variation of the "three days from retirement" trope as the second victim got his lethal dose shortly before the core was meant to be decommissioned and repurposed.
Both scientists that were victims to the real core knew each other, the second even sitting with the first at his deathbed. That means the second knew the risks better than anyone even before he started taking them.
The second victim was definitely a bit of a fool as he preferred the use of a screwdriver over the use of washers which didn't have the risk of slipping, each test without incident increasing his overconfidence, but he was also a bit of a psychological badass. When the screwdriver finally slipped out of place in this final test, he immediately yanked the lid off with his unprotected hand, called the spooked viewers back to the room to find out exactly where they were all standing, and then started calculations on how much radiation poisoning they each received so they'd know what to expect in the aftermath. If I remember correctly, he didn't bother calculating his own dosage for obvious reasons.
Connecting this real story to this SCP doesn't make a whole lot of sense unless it was supposed to have become anomalous after these fatal tests or if the real story was presented as a coverup, but the timeline doesn't really work for the latter either. The real story and object clearly was the inspiration for the SCP, but they probably should have remained separate from one another.
I'll echo the recommendations others have made to watch Kyle Hill's video on the true story.
My idea when writing it back in 2015-2016 was that it became anomalous after the infamous incidents. While not my initial interpretation (I was aiming at a pure scientific anomaly) the whole "soul trapped" thing is a very nice interpretation of it.

Fun fact: one of the scientists experimenting on the IRL demon core did so on cowboy boots and using a screwdriver to edge it into criticality, the moment he slipped and the thing went critical, he stopped it with his hand, told everyone in the room to mark their positions, and used that to calculate how much radiation they got. What a badass, may he rest in peace
