there anglerfish there deep water fish found at very deep depths or just the abyss they can also be found in some freshwater lakes if you ever watched nemo you would know that they have the giant bioluminiscente ball connected to them that attracts prey and then with there very wide and massive mouth filled with razor sharp teeth they put them through worse then a fish slaughter house the male anglerfish are very small only the size of a big gold fish but the females are 5 times bigger then a basketball and will more then likely tear you apart

I like to hear more stories where the Foundation actually save people from anomalies.
The foundation is evil and heartless as a group but due to certain planet or even reality affecting anomalies we sadly need this heartless group to survive odds are without them we would suddenly vanish from this reality or be in some sort of constant suffering (yes I go on I know)
Point being they are heartless and cruel but we need them

The beginning sounded like one of those old "Choose Your Own Adventure" books I read as a kid. The SCP universe has the same eerie atmosphere that they had and the potential to die a horrible death.

True story. My grandfather was coming home from work late one night in the 50s and crossed a bridge over some railroad tracks. He spotted a green light swaying, so looked down and observed what appeared like a railroad worker walking down the tracks holding up an old-fashioned green-tinted lantern. It was unusual enough that he stopped to watch, and as the man got closer, he just faded away -- but the green light continued bobbing along. My grandfather took to his heels and ran non-stop all the rest of the way home. I've often stopped on that same bridge to look, but have never caught a glimpse.

Theory: the lights are lights of Angler fish from either the past, future, or even another universe and when it rains those angler fish are given a semi physical form and are closer to our time/world which lets them hunt and stuff.

Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: The rail line that intersects SCP-2640 is to be decommissioned for all commercial or industrial traffic. A 3 m tall electrified fence has been installed in a 1.5 km2 perimeter surrounding SCP-2640.
A total of 4 No fewer that 8 Xyank/Anastasakos Constant Temporal Sinks (XACTS), hereafter referred to as an XACTS Array, are to be placed surrounding the 5500 m2 area. Due to the remote location, the XACTS Array is to be powered by a subterranean miniaturized pressurized water reactor. The array must be failover redundant and maintained by Foundation personnel, stationed on site.
The Disinformation Bureau is to maintain the current dissemination campaign. Witnesses to SCP-2640-1 are to be administered Class-B amnestics.
Description: SCP-2640 is an unstable temporal anomaly centered on a 5000 m2 area near Gurdon, Arkansas. SCP-2640-1 is an intangible floating orb of iridescent light. It may manifest alone or in groups; however, no more than 12 have been seen at once. It has been known to manifest at any time; however, it is much more noticeable at night. The light produced by SCP-2640-1 varies in intensity, and has been measured between 75-450 lux. The wavelength of the light measures between 380-490 nm, and appears bluish-white to the human eye. SCP-2640-1 normally float and travel slowly, but have shown the capability to move at speeds approaching 60 kph.
When an instance of SCP-2640-1 measures under 150 lux, it does not show any response to stimuli or environment. In instances measuring over 150 lux, it will interact with human presence, following subjects from a distance of no less than 20 meters, and will not move closer; instead, moving away if approached. Conversely, instances approaching 450 lux are very active, and will often interact with subjects.
In rare instances, SCP-2640-1 has been shown to float through a subject. In these instances, subjects report a feeling described as "being suspended in liquid" or "floating in a swimming pool", although they show no outward changes. The feeling begins as soon as SCP-2640-1 makes physical contact with a subject, and passes as soon SCP-2640-1 is no longer making contact.
Instances of SCP-2640-1 are incapable of leaving the area affected by SCP-2640. When they reach the boundary, instances of SCP-2640-1 will decrease in luminosity until they become invisible.
Addenda: SCP-2640-1 has been colloquially known to local residents as the "Gurdon Light" or the "Spook Light" and, prior to containment, was a tourist attraction-particularly around the holiday of Halloween. Local legends and mythology attribute SCP-2640-1 to the lantern of a railroad worker who was killed when he fell into the path of a train. The legend states that the man's head was separated from his body and was never found, and that the light that people see comes from his lantern as he searches for it.
The Disinformation Bureau's campaign explains that SCP-2640-1 is caused by the discharge of piezoelectricity from the stresses of underground quartz crystals and the New Madrid fault line. Further, the current containment protocols have been enacted for the safety of the general public, as the piezoelectric discharges have proven to be dangerous. SCP personnel on-station for containment of SCP-2640 are explained as scientists employed by the Federal Bureau of Land Management to analyze the phenomenon.

Footnote: The findings of difference between △2.35 XT and △17.8 XT is significant- This may be one of the strongest localized temporal anomalies on the planet. It has proven to be unique in the fact that, while this particular anomaly in the local Rzewski field is quite large, the application of the XACTS array has effectively kept it from geographically spreading further.
I hypothesize that SCP-2640-1 are actually lifeforms from another time period that we can see visually, due to this anomaly, yet cannot interact with without rupturing the Rzewski field, and causing irrepairable damage to the time/space continuum.
Incident Log- 3/01/1997: An EF-4 tornado1 made landfall near the 2640 Exclusion zone, causing a piece of debris to damage the northernmost XACTS. The resultant breach facilitated the installation of a failover system of the XACTS Array.

The Gurdon Light is a mystery light located near railroad tracks in a wooded area of Gurdon, Arkansas. It is the subject of local folklore and has been featured in local media and on Unsolved Mysteries and Mysteries at the Museum. The tracks are no longer in use, and the rails at least partially removed/covered, but it remains one of the most popular Halloween attractions in the area.[1][2][3][4] The light has been ascribed various colors, ranging from blue, green or white, to orange, and has been described[by whom?] as bobbing around. Its exact location is said to vary and witnesses[who?] have described it appearing at various times of day or night.

There is a very similar scenario on Netflix's "Love, Death, and Robots" called "Fish Night". Two salesmen get stuck in the desert after their car breaks down. The older man informs the younger man that the desert was once a sea floor teeming with life. At night, they wake up to find the ghosts of prehistoric marine life floating around the car. The young man undresses to swim through the air, while the old man urges him to return. As the young man becomes a luminescent being, a primordial Shark appears. Despite the old man's calls of danger, the young man stays ignorant until the ghost shark devours him.

this is an actual urban legend in Arkansas, you can visit this railroad today. From everything I've heard it's notorious for causing accidents in the area.

Likely, this SCP would be after the oceans have swallowed back the earth. Since these creatures actively hunt us, and are located so close to a population center, i believe it's an anglerfish that evolved its body to reflect all light while making its light brighter.

If you're tellin' it right, he was either a drunken Irishman who passed out on the tracks while doing his job, or a good, hardworkin' youngfella who warns an oncoming train of a wreck ahead, and gets it when the ENGINEER is a drunken Irishman who doesn't notice his signals and creams him. Sometimes with the headless body being a smashed and mangled wreck where the train rolled right over him.
Reminds me of stories of where I'm from, where people would see lights playing under canoes or floating and dancing in the air at sea from time to time.

Ah, a group of bored teenagers trespassing. Gotta be my favorite unfortunate opening vignette.
Wait we sorta have something like this in Arkansas, with the whole same backstory. Except it's a dirt road now and not a track but if you go there and shut of your car's light you'll see a light appear in the trees and on the ground. One time when I went when I was younger I saw a figure start to walk towards us from the distance and I told my mom and she immediately told me and my step dad to get into the car and when we drove towards it there was no one. And if you drive towards the light you'll see it move forward before disappearing. And there's on one way to get on the road unless someone comes up from behind you so there wasn't any really chance of it being another vehicle. We call it the light and it's a local ghost story and even now people still go to the road at night and try to see the light.
I do believe in the paranormal as I've had my own experiences so I don't want to hear anyone saying it's fake to me. You can have your own opinion but I have my beliefs and you have yours. Though I am open to hearing stories.
Also I forgot to add that when he said this story was based in Arkansas I kinda laughed cause I didn't realize it would be based in Arkansas but we do have a story similar to the rail road worker getting his head cut off and an eerie light that appears in the trees and on the roads and such but thankfully whenever we go to visit the sight there isn't any armed guards or anything like that lol.

Sounds like another day at the foundation
SCP-2640 and SCP-4434 are both pestilent entities, very similar but carries different tasks. Yes, that areas where this instances are appearing might indicate the potential flood incoming into that zone. They are indicating their coming from the deep realms as they are migratory devourers that were secluded in the deeps by the nature long time ago. Looks like the fisherbaiters SCP's want to invade and devour. If the water will rise only the mountains might help. These are some messengers that anticipate a reshape of that zones. A new strange natural order comes, preparings and attack both are needed.
Looks like the angler fish evolved to use their bait light as a way of concentrating their power to manifest a presence(especially if they are in a group), somebody feeded their hunger, they are demonic beings(by the looks) and can also launch psihic attacks.
