    1. They don't have sentimental attachments to things.
    2. They don't save everything.
    3. They tidy up throughout the day instead of letting dishes, papers, stuff pile up.
    4. They are not scared of deprivation.
    5. They don't say yes to everything.
    6. They don't try to keep up (with people nor things.)
    7. They are not content (constantly learning and working on themselves, giving back and helping others.)

I will add to the list, "Bought for a special project and did need it but probably won't need it again for another decade." I just bought things because my door panel needed gluing and because my car got a ding in the window and because my driveway had cracks that I wanted to deal with and once the project is over suddenly you have to store everything.

I think the best thing about minimalism is only having and experiencing the best.
If you only own your favourite 7 t shirts then every day you feel amazing and it motivates you to stay on top of washing them too whereas if you own 30+ t shirts you can just keep using them and letting them pile up.
Same with keeping a clean home as you mention it's much easier to spend one minute 5 times a day cleaning up after yourself than dreading a huge clean at the end of the week and feeling mentally cluttered throughout the week.

I can say, keeping things "just in case" has actually helped me and my family many times. From digging through the cans of random screws/nuts/bolts/washers/nails, the rarely used tools, boxes, automotive items, plumbing items, electrical items, batteries, etcetera; I'm the only one out of the whole lot that really looks back and thinks ahead. I admit I've probably saved too much in some areas and could use much better organization in all areas, but I/we have been in many situations that would have been a lot more difficult had I not been prepared.

It sounds like you are saying Minimalists think for themselves. They don't automatically accept cultural values and desires driven by mass-marketing, social media; and the status quo, etc. I fear that many today are like lemmings, going along with the crowd, overly concerned with being politically correct, conforming to the culture of the day as well as going into debt as they pursue things to make them happy...
Minimalism seems to be one way to escape the "group-think" of the day, as it requires self examination, and a reflection on one's values to enter into it. I can see where not being hindered by the pursuit of excessive possessions, and the time to maintain them...can free the mind and soul, enabling self growth and peace of mind - exactly as you were saying.
Thank you for your interesting video.

Ive decluttered my kitchen this last summer and its been so helpful! Helping me want to cook bc ive meal planned and its a organized kitchen My kids minimized their room so they dont have toys or a bunch of clothes everywhere. Ive started my closet and master bath which has helped me daily to get ready faster everyday for work. Im using every lotion, shampoo, perfume, makeup i have until its all used up. Im on a no buy on hygenic, beauty items only until I need some. Im going through the kids old clothes and stacking them my size and calling my sister and sisternlaws to get what they want, then donate the rest. Christmas was so easy to decorate bc last year I decluttered and organized four bins.

We are buying our first rental that we will live in and I am purging decor and find myself almost afraid to get rid of THINGS because we will be strapped financially (optionally and frugally) for a bit. You could also put the items that you're most nervous about getting rid of in a box in the garage. See how the house feels without them, and if after a few months you find that it was nothing but beneficial, remove the box permanently from your home. Decluttering towards minimalism isn't supposed to be full of anxiety, it's supposed to feel liberating.

many older people saved/accumulated things because they were brought up poor and/or had relatives that lived through the Great Depression or a recession. It's a defense mechanism many people acquired to get through hard times. True, it makes no sense to hold on to things you will never wear or use; it might be comforting to them just knowing they have them. we've tried to adopt the mantra...when you bring a new item in, an old one has to leave

I am not quite a minimalist. I am a trying to live within the storage that I have. I do have more clothing than a minimalist has but I haven't had to buy clothing in years and the clothing I do have eventually gets holes and gets thrown out so I am happy with my system for that. Cleaning and sanitizing gadgets and cooking gadgets is where I went overboard and am still not happy. Mentally, I am going through the list and I do think there is an "I might use that" depending on what recipes I make and the sanitizing gadgets are more related to COVID and certain house projects.

Constantly learning and working on yourself and giving back leads to more work sounds good but there is the vanity of pursuits too as well as a vanity of possessions. Which may take more wisdom to know about. Contentment is a good thing. I'm reminded of the passage of scripture "to the reading of books there is no end" ECCL 12:12 After a while you need to start coasting in life.

I keep a small amount of useless materials such as empty cardboard boxes 📦. They come in handy for packing ( being frugal so I don’t have to purchase any) and a window of mine broke and I covered it with the cardboard. Empty jars come in handy for storing food or other items. Cmon there are more ways to be frugal than a minimalist.

I really liked your video. I too am a minimalist. I also think that minimalism helps to stay focused because of the organizational skills we have. It helps me a lot at work! My co-workers are usually scrambling around looking for their things and I am the only one in the room that knows where everything is especially in my work area. It is ridiculous sometimes, I just sit back and watch my co-workers suffer especial because they do not take time to put things back in their place. Literally I work with someone that every time she gets something out of her closet, things fall out of it. It's really painful. Would you do a video on sloppy people versus minimalists and how it is difficult to be around people like this!! Thank you for sharing!

Francesca Checchin some things are worth keeping “just in case” like my inflatable mattress for guests. Some other are not, like my husband’s box of advertising t-shirts. He kept a couple “in case he needed to paint a wall” and donated the rest. When we go through our things in our basement/garage/attic we usually find real useless things that we didn’t want to declutter right away and that we have even forgotten what they are, those are the ones to declutter

You don’t need to destroy I’ll get rid of the box you can give it away to someone else that might need it that is so tacky so unforgiving because there are many people like a power use you in the box that you crashed and a glass that you broke

It’s Nora Bohr rules at all. Actuelle minimalism is something that can be interpreted differently by different people. Those things he has mentioned are basically just ideas a lot of minimalist share.

Having no rules can be a religion in of itself. These are side steps.
