Also I still don t live in that house but my plan to take internet, but not flat rate, 60GB is enough, it cost like 7$ monthly. House have public water suply, but there is water well next to it, so I ll just connect it to my house, instead of 25$ for water monthly, it be 2$ for electricity used by waterpump. We drastically reduced our home decor about 2.5 years ago when we re-did paint/flooring and I have not missed it all one little bit. Keeping it to a minimum not only saves time and money, it helps assure that only items I truly LOVE make their way onto surfaces/walls. If you're in doubt, pack away as much as you can stand to and put it away in the attic or basement (somewhere out of sight) for 60 or 90 days. Before you open the box (es) again, without spending more than a minute or two, jot down a list of what's in the boxes. If it's not on the list, you're surely not missing it! If it is on the list, did you really, truly miss it while it was away? Probably not. We get (loving) grief from friends and family all the time for not having a proper trash can in the kitchen. We just use a recycled grocery bag on the back counter as we have dogs. We have a dumpster outside and reusing small bags means a) we don't buy grocery bags at all and b) the trash goes out quite frequently, so it doesn't become unsightly or an odor issue. But man, some people act like we're NUTS because we don't have a proper trash bin! It's not as big an item as a table, but still one of those things we're 'supposed' to have that we just...don't.
I use plastic grocery bags for my trash containers in the bath room and beside hubby chair. I use to use in our kitchen too but now have a larger container. When using the smaller one in kitchen it would be taken out every day.
Careful with craigslist and secondhand furniture, specifically upholstered. Here are just a few fun things that can come with it: bed bugs, ringworm, clothes moths, fleas, carpet beetles...
Haircuts, pedicures, cable, Netflix, Spotify, gym, alcohol, fast food. When we travel occasionally, we'll camp or use AirBnB. When I need a household item (lamp, coffee maker), it's to the thrift store we go.
For me, being intentional with subscriptions is important! It's certainly an area you can cut out, and it's important to think critically about how much value you receive for the monthly fees. Great video!
Man I watch all the big names, Matt D’Avella, Joshua Becker, The Minimalists etc. idk why you are not catching the fire but I think you will. Informative, entertaining, and organic I feel with your videos. Keep going man you’re going to blow up once you hit the tip point
I've been a minimalist since I was kid. I've always had the smallest room in the family & my little sister would always get the bigger room just because she was a girl. Only had a bed, a dresser + hand me down clothes, a small tv, a game cube, and a small chair. Now I live in a 621 sq ft 1 bed apartment and it feel like it's too large for my needs. I'm seriously considering van life and just get rid of 98% of my stuff I've accumulated by having an apartment.
I’ve stopping buying coffee, chocolate and shampoo (I just use cheap body wash on my hair), started using men’s moisturiser instead of women’s as it costs less. Starting walking to and from work instead of the bus. Share my Netflix with my mum, stopped using the dryer and generally just think twice before buying anything. I save so much by doing this.
Had a stackable washer and dryer. When the washer was broken, just bought a bigger size washing machine. I hang dry my clothes on a foldable clothes rack, ( using hangers to hang them. In the summertime, I roll out a small dehumidifier; it really helps to keep the extra moisture down. It is amazing how much water I dump out. We truly can learn so much from these platforms.
I buy 90% of my clothes at Goodwill. It's become a fun hobby to look for things there. My boyfriend and I have tons of great things we've gotten there, including barely used North Face and Columbia winter coats that would have cost hundreds.
The regular Mountain Dew, sigh, it’s about to be 3 years:) I still imagine it tastes like heaven lol I stopped buying any clothes that aren’t plain or multi functional.
i think Gabe is right- once you're off the soda, if you try it again, you can taste it for the horrible crud it actually is! We only have it when we eat out (rare) or sometimes holidays, and really as a treat for the kids.
So happy to have found your platform 🙏🏼 i’ll be binge watching all videos & binge listening to all your podcasts. Everything i’m passionate about: coffee, minimalism & finances 🤗
Expensive cell phone plan...I was able to switch providers and get my plan down from 60 a month to 13 dollars a month (cad) . I really haven’t seen much difference in service , I have less data but I can live with it , it’s not a big deal . I don’t need to be staring at my phone all the time
As a woman, haircuts are ridiculously expensive, so learning that I could cut my own hair and actually love the results has been a HUGE silver lining of the pandemic.
Yes I agree, after realizing it was going to be like, $25 for a haircut I may need monthly or sooner, getting clippers and cutting a style I can manage saved me money and was kind of self care since my hair now looks how I want it.
Great video! I too have stopped buying haircuts... And hair dyes and waxes and razors. I love how I've cleared all those hours of preening and the expense of the appointments from my life. More free time, more money in my wallet, more love for my body. All the best, Maeve in Ireland
My goal is to make every space with essential stuff and beneficial to my life growth and goal to save money. I purged two rooms and found 3 jars with lots of coins and now going to deposit them into my bank account. 🤣
I quit buying an automobile 🚗 years ago. No car payments, insurance, fuel, maintenance, tickets, etc are needed to worry about. I saved tens of thousands of dollars ( probably well over $100,000). I rely on my feet 🦶 and legs 🦵 to walk ( good exercise and Vitamin D from the sun) , public transportation, and an occasional cab 🚕 ride to get my destination.
I buy flowers for I know i'll enjoy them and let'em go. Green plants are to much sustain. Also i use to cut my hair myself but looking sharp some times a year for special events is always a nice feeling
I raised a pig for the freezer and this year instead of planting everything from the nursery, I just plant what I actually eat. Why plant scorpion peppers if I don't like scorching food?! I shop from the garden. Today is eggplant. I make tea for car rides so I don't think I need to stop for anything on the road and I make sure to eat before I leave. Have cut down eating out to about twice a month. Took the tv off the wall and when my expensive phone died, switched to consumer cellular and a $65 phone and I can't tell the difference! Canceled my Audible and got a digital library card with the Libby app and now get all my audio books for free.
I saved a ton on money not going to the movies. Like why spend $17 for a movie that you'll probably hate when you could just be patient and wait for it to come to RedBox
Do you know of a similar website like cuts but for women? More so plus size women? I'm struggling to find a GOOD quality basics minimal womens plus size option. I've been looking for quite some time.
Awesome video Gabe! WOW I'm shocked that people can spend that a month on cable! I pay £45 a year for the Surf Network as I love surfing but for me, that's enough - i'm not a TV person - i'm obsessed with travel, mountain biking, natural bodybuilding. I'm into simplifying life. From my experience at observing comments and forums, the more a person buys, the more the product eats their life/time and they become miserable and unsatisfied. Tech wise, I've been able to put my entire digital life on just my MacBook Pro and iPhone (I stream them to an Apple TV box) and that's it. I couldn't be happier - everything is in one place - music, film, photos etc - I don't loose anything, and can find anything instantly :) I gave old CDs, DVDs to charity shops and had a free for all in my front garden over the summer - although most people too weren't that interested in taking the DVDs/CDs. I enjoy not having plastic cases and the clutter and it's nice not having loads of old style tech :) Everything is more zen and soulful :) I remember a lecturer at university saying 'less is more' and he was so right! :) PS WiFi here in the UK is £46 a month for me unlimited with 200mbps or £50 a month for 400mbps - expensive but kind of essential :)
@@GabeBult PS I ALWAYS try and buy from B Corp business too. For instance, the plant based protein powder that I buy from a company called 'form' is a B Corp. When I make a purchase they buy a meal for a hospital in Gambia. Even the packaging i recyclable in my food waste. Things like that are really important to me along with all environmental goodness. I try not to buy hardly anything now and prefer 'experiences' and things that make memories for me :) I love meeting people whenever I travel and love Surfing Film Festivals in Europe as I meet the same amazing crowd wherever I travel :)
Cable was the biggest time waster for us and it was horrible to just go cold turkey but so worth it as been 4+ years and people often ask how can you live without cable and we say easy. We do other things and we can stream movies ect but we have a collection of old movies from the 1940's which is our jam and often we will watch an old classic or listen to radio. Disconnecting from digital frees you up and until you try it your always connected. Just found your channel and been working on my journey to minimalism for about 5 years now and one way to do this is keep moving to a small place and I don't find that method in a book or on You Tube. I am recovering hoarder and this is a long slow and painful journey and for me I just continue to downsize and declutter. Helps to find postitive channels like yours along my journey. Thanks for sharing
Take your time! I am still going through stuff my stuff as well. You have already made the decision to stop collecting stuff, and start pairing down. That is so great!! Good luck on your journey!
Soda is so bad for your teeth, too. Since I stopped drinking soda on a regular basis, I've had so many less issues with cavities and chipped teeth. There are plenty of good substitutes out there if you still want flavored drinks!
I guess I’ve been minimalist on most things. I still have some work on a couple things. I need to declutter but mostly I need help getting my man to play along with this …he has soooooo much stuff. Sooooooo much. Do you have a video about how to talk to a live in partner about how clutter can affect a relationship? 🤪
I feel you on the soda. I drink mostly water and the occasional sweet tea at home, but every once in awhile when I drink a pop I always feel so gross afterward.

Im on my journey to becoming a minimalist, I was curious to know if you had tips (or a video) on specifically food? Sometimes I get home from work and forget to take a lunch and feel bad when I have to go purchase something to eat, do you have a suggestion of healthy (or somewhat healthy) breakfast and lunch ideas that either take no time at all to prepare or grab-and-go meals you can suggest?
Not necessarily stopped buying but I saved a lot by shopping around for car insurance. I was paying $100/mo with Geico before. I switched to StateFarm paying $50/mo.
@@karafelfel3028 I really like it! The ingredients are laundry soap bar, (like fels naptha or pink zote,) 20 mule team borax, and washing soda. There are tons or recipes all over RUclips and Pinterest-just with those basic ingredients. some make it powder form, I make liquid, some people get fancy and add essential oils. A little bit goes a long way, the ratios are a little different between top and front loader machines, but it lasts FOREVER! I’m a fan!!! And diva cup is dreams, and the freedom of not having to buy feminine products is ::chef’s kiss::
Stopped buying new clothes when I had a rip or a scratch on them I got them repaired for example a seam re done is cheaper even if you traveled to the place a few miles away it would be cheaper. My example maybe £15 travel and £20-30 at most for repair. A new jacket for example would be something like £60-70. Stopped buying food that is full price litterally as a plant based person you can freeze everything that is near a day or same day out of date from the reduced section. This also gets into items such as uht milk which has a longer expiry date that doesn't need refrigeration as normal cow's milk does. Hope these tips help people.
Soda, cable, frou frous, rummage sales, Avon, Girl Scout cookies or school sales (I donate instead), and I stopped buying processed foods and sugar treats. Meals out, especially lunch. Its easier to come home and fry an egg. Cheaper too. We take food with us if we're going to be gone for the day...especially water. Buying that can be very expensive at a convenience store or drive through. I went to a daily uniform, and a couple of dresses for occasions. Best idea ever.
I can relate to these struggles. The soda addiction my fiancé has. If you have kids, and they get presents for Christmas and birthdays, a good way not to accumulate too much stuff is if they try to get rid of the same amount of their old toys as they get new ones. We have some neighbors that leave toys out for grabs on their curb before taking whatever’s left to goodwill. Also curious about trying to do capsule wardrobes for the kids.. is that realistic? Lol
Hey Gabe, how ya doing?? 🤗 Gotta love those videos yep!! One thing, and it's kinda actually a Big thing to (Me ) anyway, is.....( Coffee Filters) ☕ yep, I used to buy them( all the time),....that is, Untill I Discovered that little mesh basket, that you can get, that takes the place of (Coffee Filters).... I started cutting my hair during lockdown and haven’t stopped. It looks just as good as when I was paying for that. No cable but when I did have it I only paid $65 a month. Had just the basics. Then I bought a OTA TiVo with no service fees. I have internet because I earn my living with it via computer. Very little eating out. Cook from scratch and have a veggie garden and chickens. I don’t feel deprived at all. I love jigsaw puzzles and belong to a huge swap group to get them for free.
I do have cable but, not from here I pay $35 for Sky Dish... From Mexico and yes programs are in English as most channels are from here... And it includes live sports including mma/boxing 😆.. I've not paid a ppv event in 5 years
Pop is addictive. I was drinking (3) 20oz bottles per day, waking up with a caffeine deprivation headache and in a perpetual state of exhaustion. Pop will rot your teeth, destroy your stomach and waste your money. I gave it up in August and have not looked back. I’m so glad I got that monkey off my back!
I liked every tip. I just don’t agree on cutting your own hair. It’s not that easy, particulary in the nape. And if we want the local economy to grow, there’s nothing wrong in spending a few bucks every month in your local barber.
The only thing I won't budge on is hair. As a woman identifying person, it's really hard to keep up with cutting hair and it's difficult to see what you're doing. My OCD would also get in the way 😆 I would say that with razors too but TBH I have a hard time keeping up with that and in the winter, it doesn't matter. I promise, I'm not gross 🤣
Shave once a week with 60 cent razors ( 1 per month = $8 year) NO LATHER !!!! Make choice on caffeine Sosa is cheaper than coffee Best one ever Go to MacDonalds an download your Netflix movies
Only here because you look great with that haircut.. so handsome on ya. Not even listening to the video just waiting for more shots of that haircut on ya. Lesbian hairstylist here. Aw damn now I'm interested in the content... And guilty of doing that sale stuff. I have a retail therapy excuse I need to keep using. Why do I go shopping when I don't know what I'm shopping for?
Iv stopped buys makeup, nail polish, purses, jewelry, excessive shoes and clothes... Oh wait, I never bought those things from the start lol. I'm a low maintenance kinda gal.
We got rid of the stove, because natural gas prices had become ridiculous. We Have an Instant Pot, microwave/oven combi and maybe we'll get a single electric pit cooking thingy, but for now it's not been necessary. Our gas usage has reduced to practically zero, we only use it for showering. If prices ever come down, we will get a free stove from facebook.
If you cut out meat and learn to get your protein from beans, lentils, nuts and seeds combined with grains like rice, quinoa or potatoes, corn and eat fruit and vegetables you will see your grocery cost drop. Meat is so expensive. I bought less and less and felt so much healthier. Went vegan and saw less symptoms of inflammation. Dairy and meat cause an inflammatory process. My joints stopped hurting. I feel physically better than I have in 25 years. It really wasn't tough to give up, even the icecream. When I do cheat, I make sure to really enjoy that cheat. Thanks for great content. My son stopped shaving, too. He said it takes time he doesn't want to spend every day. I told him he looks handsome with his beard and moustache.
Could never do the no haircut. I don’t think its worth the stress. However I did stop buying single use items. Water bottles, utensils, cups… ziploc. They are bad for my wallet and the environment. Think it has been 5 years now.
😦 I have bad habits too but this was surprising to me. I hope y’all who struggle with this are able to control this! I am sure you know the odds but given we are not likely to ever win against “the house” (incl. lottery) and even if we did win, it’d be so very unlikely to be enough to retire on... i don’t know it feels like such a waste. (Not that I don’t hate bad habits and non-necessities that I get stuck into, so I don’t mean to be judging. I guess the point is we each have our things..)
My partner and I also didn't have wifi for a few years, just using phone data and going to coffee shops/libraries for wifi. It worked really well, even if people looked at us like we were nuts. But now with the pandemic and having to do more work from home, our neighbours have graciously let us borrow their Wifi connection! Which makes me wonder why more people don't split wifi costs with neighbours. It's kind of crazy to think that in an apartment building, almost every unit with a wall between them will have a separate wifi router.
200 bucks a month for a cable? I a mnot from US, but I smell BS here. Maybe you added all kinds of cables lol. It should be something lke 20-30 bucks a month
Very good points except for the haircut. That's 10 bucks and takes 15 minutes. Not worth the hassle to do it myself. No WiFi doesn't work for me as a teacher.
You've seriously never paid for a haircut? That's wild! Your hair looks so good. I cut my husband's hair and usually ask him to cut mine, but occasionally we will go get it done (once, maybe twice a year).
Bunch of things I don’t quite agree with here. While it’s good to live with less, and save money. You really have to consider the balance between time(efficiency) and money.
I'm the same with pop. I drink maybe 1 can a quarter if that and its usually if I didn't eat well and need to get out of a brain fog quickly. And while I have a dining room table, I actually use my coffee table which rises up and I got secondhand from my sister. Love it! I'm learning to cut my hair and maintain an undercut, but when it isn't a pandemic I plan go to get it colored every quarter or so that it will be bleached properly and then maintain it myself with off the shelf color which is so much cheaper or just let it fade which can look good to a certain point.
Having wifi keeps me on the internet plus with wifi I can use the free streaming stick instead of paying for cable, and you get hundreds of free movies and shows and channels plus tons of live tv...so to me wifi is way worth having for less than half of cable
if you can find 40 bucks airbnb, you can find 40 bucks hotel room in that city as well. It is false to say that yo uwould only get 150 hotel vs 40 aurbnb.

I started using dollar shave club. I get it every other month and they are good razors and cheap! I got rid of all the extra kitchen items I dont use, there were 2 bins of them. I also shop on marketplace for used or free items. If i need something, I go there first. Almost every item in my house was used and free, except my mattress. Its amazing some things people just want gone that are beautiful furniture pieces. I also cut mine and hubby's hair, use youtube for gym, cut out mani/pedi, and tailored our meals to save money on food. Great video!!

👏🙏
Fantastic I must say.
As long as you happy, that's all the matters.
For me, being intentional with subscriptions is important! It's certainly an area you can cut out, and it's important to think critically about how much value you receive for the monthly fees. Great video!
💯👏
Man I watch all the big names, Matt D’Avella, Joshua Becker, The Minimalists etc. idk why you are not catching the fire but I think you will. Informative, entertaining, and organic I feel with your videos. Keep going man you’re going to blow up once you hit the tip point
Thanks 👍 I've learnt a lot from those guys and they have really helped me alot! Hope I can do the same for others
Very Helpful! My Emergency fund grew to 2,000 instead of a 1, 000 since watching. Everything is good. Not perfection but improvement.
That's awesome 💰☕
I only follow Gabe now. I prioritized just one youtuber so I'm not confused.
Great suggestions! This is such an important topic to be discussing right now. I really enjoyed the video!
Absolutely saving money right now makes a huge difference! ☕
I just gave up my WiFi for my TV set. I didn’t have tv shows just roku but they kept raising my internet fees so I canceled it.
👏☕
I save so much by doing this.
some good ideas!
Home decor. Just.hate.it. Do.not. need. it.
💯
I thought it was just me.
I always found the "room meter" in The Sims pretty unnecessary
I love the IDEA of home decor... I have tons of pinterest pages lol but I can't bring myself to spend money on things that aren't useful.
Cut out gym memberships- best savings ever. Now I just get outdoors.
I buy 90% of my clothes at Goodwill. It's become a fun hobby to look for things there. My boyfriend and I have tons of great things we've gotten there, including barely used North Face and Columbia winter coats that would have cost hundreds.
I never had cable either! Before Netflix etc! I thought I was the only one!
Hi Gabe! I don't pay for mobile data because I stay home most of the time and use wi-fi instead :P
That works too 👍☕
The regular Mountain Dew, sigh, it’s about to be 3 years:) I still imagine it tastes like heaven lol I stopped buying any clothes that aren’t plain or multi functional.
I tell ya there is crack in there
i think Gabe is right- once you're off the soda, if you try it again, you can taste it for the horrible crud it actually is! We only have it when we eat out (rare) or sometimes holidays, and really as a treat for the kids.
@@granitemoss1451 actually very true i remeber I stopped mountain at times and it did taste different esp the red one. Yuck I still won't drink that
I drink a certain amount of soda than I'm sick of it..until the next day.
I don’t need to be staring at my phone all the time
That's huge difference! 👏☕
@@cherch Not OP but I switched to Public Mobile and my phone plan is $25 a month with 2gb of data!
Although i like minimalism, and i agree with several points. I thought some of them were going a bit too far. But if it works for you keep it up.
I dont feel so bad not having a table now
I have to have a table for family meals. It can be used, scratched & colored on but gotta have sometime to talk to your kids.
I buy myself flowers too. When i'm in the grave it's not like i'll enjoy flowers than. Why do we do this when people are gone?
Thank God for once I found a minimalist RUclipsr that actually eats meat. That food you cooked looked good 👍
Not very hard to find people who eat meat lol
And not something to be proud about
😂😂😂😂
@@dp2404 you do you 👍
@Eva Flowers Agree!
👏💯☕
@@GabeBult PS I ALWAYS try and buy from B Corp business too. For instance, the plant based protein powder that I buy from a company called 'form' is a B Corp. When I make a purchase they buy a meal for a hospital in Gambia. Even the packaging i recyclable in my food waste. Things like that are really important to me along with all environmental goodness. I try not to buy hardly anything now and prefer 'experiences' and things that make memories for me :) I love meeting people whenever I travel and love Surfing Film Festivals in Europe as I meet the same amazing crowd wherever I travel :)
This guy reminds me of Graham Stephan for some reason lol.
Just with far less money 💰 lol
Graham Stephan is an annoying RUclipsr. Not this guy.
Soda: Liquid Poison
👍 totally agree with cable
Take your time! I am still going through stuff my stuff as well. You have already made the decision to stop collecting stuff, and start pairing down. That is so great!! Good luck on your journey!
After watching the entire video: I'm like, God! I've never paid for any of these😮🙄I mean, I've never had the need for😌
Same, haha
I love all your advice and the editing on this one is fire!!
Thanks 👍 ☕🙏
Soda is so bad for your teeth, too. Since I stopped drinking soda on a regular basis, I've had so many less issues with cavities and chipped teeth. There are plenty of good substitutes out there if you still want flavored drinks!
That’s so true
I guess I’ve been minimalist on most things. I still have some work on a couple things. I need to declutter but mostly I need help getting my man to play along with this …he has soooooo much stuff. Sooooooo much. Do you have a video about how to talk to a live in partner about how clutter can affect a relationship? 🤪
I feel you on the soda. I drink mostly water and the occasional sweet tea at home, but every once in awhile when I drink a pop I always feel so gross afterward.
I keep hearing Gabe's voice saying, " quit the soda! 😄
I tell that voice, hush i can have one bad habit!
Cut sugar and save both your heath & wealth

Keep up all d good works & keep posting many more new videos with different ideas....all d very best 😁
Stopped buying paper towels. 👍🏼
Airbnb kills housing space for locals who actually live there. Prices rise to a point where they are not able to pay for a house/apt anymore.

I don’t buy tampons, I use a diva cup. I also make my own laundry detergent.
How? does it work good? 👍

Great work, buddy! Quick tip, switch your frame rate to 24 and your shutter speed to 60. It’ll make this footage a little smoother :)
Thanks 👍 I have no clue how to work this thing lol
Stopped buying new clothes when I had a rip or a scratch on them I got them repaired for example a seam re done is cheaper even if you traveled to the place a few miles away it would be cheaper. My example maybe £15 travel and £20-30 at most for repair. A new jacket for example would be something like £60-70. Stopped buying food that is full price litterally as a plant based person you can freeze everything that is near a day or same day out of date from the reduced section. This also gets into items such as uht milk which has a longer expiry date that doesn't need refrigeration as normal cow's milk does. Hope these tips help people.
👏
Why it's always look so sexy when seeing men's back revealing his muscles haha 😅
"What are you still doing here?" Hahahaha
Soda, cable, frou frous, rummage sales, Avon, Girl Scout cookies or school sales (I donate instead), and I stopped buying processed foods and sugar treats. Meals out, especially lunch. Its easier to come home and fry an egg. Cheaper too. We take food with us if we're going to be gone for the day...especially water. Buying that can be very expensive at a convenience store or drive through. I went to a daily uniform, and a couple of dresses for occasions. Best idea ever.
👏💯
It's Super Great!! 👍Another way to save $ !! 😁
I have no WiFi, cable, and tv. I need to stop the "buy it because it's on sale" thing. I've done better, but not as good as I would like.
At some point there's only so much you can cut investing is where the big change happens or house hacking
Make choice on caffeine

Lottery tickets. Ughhh. 😂😂 Gotta stop believing that this is my retirement plan
That "Ferris Buller Day Off" ending was the cherry on the top 😁
I’m more of a maximalist in my heart, but just can’t afford it like I would have liked to so far. Having a minimalist style room in my house would be a neat idea, though.
1. I don’t buy anything on sale.
