I wanted to make a cheap steroid joke but i see TJ or his team responding to young fans on here and that makes me respect him regardless of his mistakes. Good job dude good luck upon your return
Footwork really is one of those things everyone should put more thought in. The greats all have amazing footwork, it really helps setting up all the right angles. Great video!
@@TjDillashaw1 the pb is you don't find someone willing to teach it to you that easily. i've never been taught how to control the distance, how to enter and exit safely, how to get angles (and what it is exactly) etc. just as an example, I felt on a video of you and some other teacher whose name I can't remember now, teaching the guys for TUF 25. I learnt more in this video than the last year of training, and without that video I would'nt know those stuff. sometimes it's not people not putting efforts but not having access to the knowledge. that being said thanks for the share.
It's annoying how so many people who train seem to almost completely ignore it. I can't think of anything else in martial arts with more subtlety or a higher ceiling for perfection. I know too many people who do things like hitting pads with straight punches while standing so close that they should be throwing hooks or clinching. They never make small adjustments with their feet (which just about any good fighter does constantly) so they constantly practice throwing shots in the wrong ranges during drills and then wonder why they can't land anything in sparring.
@@bunklypeppz Did you read Owl's comment, he's right. If people aren't even told where to look, it's not a fair expectation to compare to those receiving top notch instruction. Not all training is equal and not everyone in the world has all of the correct circumstances align at the same time to get high quality training. Not everyone in the dark is an idiot, or lazy or lacks work ethic. Just imagine all of the things you've been 'neglecting' just because you don't know any better or are you in particular just above that? It's ridiculous to compare 'too many people' to 'good fighters'. There's a huge gap in investment, resources and quality of training there. if they're wondering why it's because they've not been pushed in the right direction, maybe instead of insulting them, you could probably go and help them.

i like to visualize punches being thrown at me and then visualize moving my feet reacting to the shot. its one of the ways you can work while resting. i also think its really important to single out every strike you throw and dissect ways you yourself can get countered and then drill the defense in sparring
@TjDillashaw I like that you've set up your drills in a way that shows anyone could be doing these things even at home, in their yard, at the park. Not a replacement for working in a gym but that there is always something people could be doing when they have time.
That's the goal! Glad you are enjoying them man. The free trial course has a bunch of videos set up like this, you should check it out if you enjoyed this one. Link the in the caption!
Tj dillashaw greatest of all time when i first started watching mma was bc of you the way you fought against barao the first time was just spectacular, but you didnt stop u just got better and better. Im actually learning techniques from u and just pure genius thank u. Cant wait for your return back to the ring to reclaim your crown the belt looks the best on you anyway
Thanks for sharing I can see its practicality you were my favourite mma switch stance fighter hopefully you'll have a bag of tricks waiting to be unveiled next year!
@@TjDillashaw1 if you find the time could you do some basics technique on cage control offense/defense I myself am judoka however cage work is so specific.

Great lesson, found this looking for footwork drills for my kids and these have helped them tremendously, thank you TJ for the tips! Goodluck on your upcoming fight!
Learning footwork and head movment is so crucial, anyone can learn to hit pad and punch but are those people good at moving and dodging those punches. We as fighters need to learn to slip, move and implement footwork just as much and often as we do hitting mits.
Going into the Air Force around April for Phys. Medicine, TJ, Do you have a work out plan that will turn me into a beast like you? I’m really competitive and would like to be at the top with anything physical related. Outside of what they do for boot camp, I can’t think of much that would help round me out or give me an edge. Can’t wait for your return by the way!
Man good for you! 👊 You should totally check out the Fit & Fight Ready course, It starts off going over mma foundational skills and drills that should come in handy for hand to hand combat training, then the course finishes with a 4-week functional workout at the end. I actually just released a preview of the course with a bunch of videos like this one. The free version does not include the 4-week workout program, but it's a great place to start. Heres the link. bit.ly/30POs7I
I wonder if learning how to skateboard switch stance would translate into stand up it would also benefit balance and cardio it seems. Anyhow it was just a thought. Can't wait for your return in the meantime Cody would appreciate you do a video on how to condition your chin.
TJ dillashaw you are the goat you just got too bad losses on your record that really threw you back farther than any UFC fighter that I've ever seen and the one you got robbed on and the other one you robbed yourself but I've never seen someone be held down by the organization like you
Would it be possible to make one with footwork mostly working from a VERY square stance, as well as showing what types of strikes you like to use with what type of movement? Showing how to take the more advanced footwork with striking and easily shift back to a very square stance would be most useful Like: ____ strike for Diamond step ____ strike for moving backwards at an angle and switching ____ strike for circling out ____ strike for stepping forward at an angle to your opponent’s right shoulder Just some of your favorites. It’s really hard to explain how to put footwork and striking together but a friend asked for me to teach him and he can’t exactly spar because he’s super worried about Covid. I want to be a better teacher so getting an explanation from a pro would be a big help

TJ's footwork, slips and attacks combined with a relentless combo of striking and takedowns it has always been a beauty to watch.
