Chris, you are my favorite on-line instructor for many reasons, but mostly because you are like us. Always realizing there are things we can do better.
This was super! And I love it that you're not afraid to expose your issues to us all. We forget that even the best in the game have issues, otherwise, you'd be shooting 59 every round! Thanks for allowing us to see this. David, USA
Amazing that your ‘across-the-line’ issue went away immediately! I can’t say I’ve ever seen an issue go away so quickly. Great lesson…thanks Chris and David.
I started playing golf in 1997. I couldn't afford a golf professional to coach me then. I've learnt my golf from David Leadbetter by watching his video lessons. No digital videos then, it was in VHS (video tape) format. A legendary guru in golf.
Just want to give a BIG shout out to Chris.... Bcuz of ur vids I've managed to drop my handicap by 4 shots in 6 months. Anyone within 100 miles of Chris needs to books a lesson ASAP.. he's an awesome coach..... REALLY
Thanks for the Video clip! Excuse me for chiming in, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you heard the talk about - Paneevelyn Swinging Clubsman (erm, check it on google should be there)? It is a great exclusive product for revealing an effortless golf swing technique minus the hard work. Ive heard some super things about it and my m8 after many years got astronomical results with it.
Great video Chris. The coach being coached. It really brings out a special element of this game which is we all need to keep working on our games no matter who we are and how good we are. Cheers Dave
Thanks for sharing. Chris, you are a pretty solid golf coach yourself. Would love your candid reaction on whether you agree with David's assessment of your swing?
Yeah I totally agree, I’ve always know the initial move is out and this leads to issues later, David just game me a dril and feel that I’d not had before,
Hi Chris Thanks again for responding, what my point is. Is that the leading edge of the club stays square to my shoulder plain on the Backswing. So I do not manipulate my hands in any way. Makes the backswing simple. Kindest regards Jordy. I still love ya 😉
@@ChrisRyanGolf Chris these drills got me thinking about my swing and now started to look at the A swing and realising at least half of what I'm doing is in place already. The idea of coiling vrs turning is brilliant as Ive turning turning for years and losing the plot. Interesting to know whether you adopted the A swing principle he demo stated.
Chris this is I think the same as my PGA coach is trying to get me to do in my back swing but the drill is new to me. Any chance you could do a further video with a side on view as I could not quite work out where the right arm starts and finishes. Thanks
I love indoor golf too. There is a place in my town called X-golf and it is so much fun and provides tons of data. I think it has really helped my game.
Hi Chris. Great video. Is this something you would work on with longer irons, woods and driver too? Did it make a big improvement to your game Chris? Cheers
Leadbetter's "A Swing" geometrics are quite different than the traditional swing mechanics...the clubbed well outside the hands, the club shaft almost vertical in the backswing (he says the hands never get outside of the club), the grip change needed for the swing, etc. I wonder if this will catch on.
HA! Shows you how much I keep up w/ Leadbetter. I had no idea that this was an 'old' teaching!! I thought this was something new. I guess it DIDN'T catch on! :)
I bet he got slower, shorter and less accurate. This is hardly a customized help. This is what he tries to push on most good golfers. And it hurts them.
Insightful. Not sure about in the pub (or in front of the wife!) left hand straight myth - this is something I am working on at the moment. My focus is at straight arms at impact and maintaining straight arms in the follow through. Watching the pro’s , It does look like the left arm is kept straight for a longtime to waist height post impact.
Hey Colin, yeah arms extended at impact is something that we see from many of the greats, more helpful to focus on that rather than keeping the lead arm straight in the backswing
Chris, thanks for sharing this, it's a great video! I am a beginner and I'm starting to see how many viewpoints of a golfswing coexist. This drill is toward getting a steeper backswing, right? Are you here playing with strong grip?
Your right hip, needs to be deeper, on the backswing and pause for a split second, to allow your fulcrum to recentre and excess energy to dissipate, from the shaft, which always wants to utilise , the energy contained in the " Flex" to mechanicaly decoupled itself and move out of phaze, with the rotating mass !
Chris, Great video as always. Question Are you convinced with Mr Leadbetter's concept (core movement to initiate the takeaway) with the club slightly more out in front of you?
I was told years ago, interpreting the data is where the coach is still vital. You're in good company he had nick price do that same drill. Keep practising ..See you on tour 😎😂😎😂
What do I know?? But the drill certainly made it look like you were being thrown out over the top as opposed to inside out.. The general advice seemed okay .. keep finding new drills to fix this or that .. frankly .. I think you give better and more useful advice than what I saw him give you in the video. To quote a line from I NEVER PROMISED YOU A ROSE GARDEN .. "You don't do brain surgery with a pickax.
Hi Chris I do respect David and his opinion however that swing drill he demonstrated was BS. The only way you can move the club inside is by manipulating your shoulders independently of your torso Turn. Most golfers swing their shoulders around their back so to speak, which is so common. If you were to start swinging by turning from lower back your arms automatically find a perfect top of the swing position. Best drill for this fix is to place a pivoting office chair against your lower back. Now as the back of the chair rests against your Lower back try rotating the chair with your lower back. Problem solved forever. Arms simply come along for the ride, no conscience thought of arms or hands. Cheers 🥂
Hey Jordy, golf is such a good sport as we can have so many discussions about the swing as there is no ‘perfect way’. However at the top of the swing, as I’m sure you are aware, there is around 70 degrees of wrist cock, 90degrees of lead forearm rotation, external rotation of the trail arm, lead shoulder adduction and well as some shoulder protraction and flexion in many swings, unfortunately those things do not just ‘fall into place’ in my opinion when you turn from your lower back, not to mention the fact that your lower back has no rotational ability. This thought may well have worked for you in the past so not saying it’s wrong for you, but certainly not the case for me 👍
@@ChrisRyanGolf great comment Chris. Ironically I watched an old Faldo video yesterday that seems to fall in line with your issue. In the transition he calls it RE ROTATING the arms and demonstrates it with a beach ball. It seems that you go the other way. Not saying it will fix anything for you but it's a very different feeling. It was the old video with Faldo and Ledbetter called "taking it to the course". The green line on your beach ball would be rolling the other way from the top. It's a trust thing.

“Can’t imagine what Bubba Watson thinks...if anything...” 🤣 Love it!
What do you mean?
Chris I have the tendency's and took this drill to the indoor range. It definently works. Good video will Led..
Just found this... I love David Leadbetter - great video :D

Great stuff
Excellent, really interesting vid and very informative I dread to think how much that one to one with Mr Leadbetter would cost in the real world.

The hands drill at the end originally was the idea The Teacher Lesley King!
Just as a matter of interest, how tall is David Leadbetter, Chris? Online lists him as 5'10", but he looks much taller than that, to me.
Chris,
Great video as always. Question Are you convinced with Mr Leadbetter's concept (core movement to initiate the takeaway) with the club slightly more out in front of you?
Chris Question answered in your latest video 'Simple drill for the perfect takeaway.' Happy days 😊👍
Absolutely fascinating. Love it. Be great to see how you get on with this with practice. 👍
Thanks David, just wish it were about 20 degrees warmer to practice in 😂
Next video - “ David Leadbetter f****d my swing “ 😂😂😂😂😂

There’s no positive change there. I can help.
Incredible 👍
Uhh James Bond Stoke Park
Gutted here.
I thought Chris was perfect.😭
How does this move influence your ball flight?
Surely a coaches role is to help your ball flight not to make it “look orthodox”
Absolutely, my path tends to get out to the right of the target due to my backswing shape, so improving this changes my deliver and path 👍
Given that the champions of old didn’t have access to this technology And yet were unbelievable golfers, I’m gonna say that this is total overkill.
What do I know?? But the drill certainly made it look like you were being thrown out over the top as opposed to inside out..
