It works great, got me safely to the Titan for the first time today and I was able to hang around and investigate/farm materials totally unmolested whilst the Beam Laser was engaged. The speed and cool running properties of this ship build made getting into the maelstrom straightforward, thanks again for doing this, much appreciated 👍🏻
Just finished the build, first time visiting the Titan tomorrow… For those wondering how to get Pips to show 1-2-3… Put 4 in SYS then click them across to make 4 in WPN then click up twice… 1 - 2 - 3 👍🏻 Thanks again o7
I just fly a super cold Diamondback Scout...have to resynth limpets but could sneak around for hours and fill up on mats easily. Never got aggro from anything.
FAS indeed pretty good, though I would more likely clump it together with the alliance ships, as it has a similar profile hardpoint-wise and PD/PP-wise. It’s good. It just so happens the Krait MK2 is, IMO; better for this particular purpose (and I love alliance ships!)
For small ships, I would recommend the DBX. Being said, it is not a good combat ship. It’s just a good setup for exploring and investigating the maelstrom.

I tried several variations, but keep coming back to this one. Missiles hit harder but they are so imprecise that it hardly matters, and have very limited ammo. Flak is effectively useless in that environment. PD works semi-decently against incoming missiles but I find heatsinks to have greater utility.
Thanks, this is a handy and well explained video, maybe one day I will dust off my Krait Mk2, having too much fun with my AX MC anaconda in the spire sites.
Nice! I just did my first core dive a couple hours ago (in a Krait Phantom), and was just thrilled that I took out a couple of turrets and got away alive. It's a start... So when is Finance Friday going to happen in Taranis? My carrier is in Vukurbeh and ready to host! EDIT: Quick tactical note: Just like when fighting capital ships, staying as close to the Titan as possible seemed to help a lot. It provides a lot of cover. However, I wasn't tangling with the interceptors, and just avoided them.
We actually did a group dive on Friday. Unfortunately (or fortunately, given frame rates) game tends to split instances so no more than 6-8 CMDRs are in each single Titan instance. There’s a LOT of geometry to render… I think the idea is that most machines would slow to a crawl if they let more people into a single one.
Thanks for another great video here sir. Getting closer to returning, LOL! Question, watching your many videos thus far: something I am finally noticing and wanting to confirm with you that can help us lesser skilled pilots: Are you mostly running with flight assist "Off" and mostly using "up/down", (and sometimes port/starboard) thrust while simultaneously engine boosting to out-maneuver thargons and the missile attacks from the Titan? Your ability to avoid damage is stellar! (I am not getting the same results when I was doing the cold orbit.)
Thank you! Re: FA Off, it varies. In 1:1 interceptor combat, i generally fly FA Off almost entirely. In flying around the Titan, I use a mix of both - most of the time in FA On, and occasionally flipping to FA Off when I need a high-AoA maneuver (e.g., flip and boost past the edge of the Titan)
4th utility is shutdown field neutralizer. There are too many Orfs in Maelstroms. Even if your ship is cold, they use shutdown field periodically, especially when you're near the portal.
… but the Thargoid Pulse Neutralizer already acts as a shutdown field neutralizer. The fact that it has zero range (so only cover you, no others) is kind of irrelevant if you’re an environment where everyone is guaranteed to have one!
Great video, audio needs a bit of rebalancing. The music is drowning out your voice in some parts. I think you could toss the FDLs sistership, the Mamba, a little shout out. It has performed exceptionally well for maelstrom recon for many people. Util slots for days, incredible straightline speed and decent, though not incredible, hardpoints. If you forego a thermal vent beam laser you can bring an abrasion blaster with you for material gathering, too. Just putting that out there :)
Yes I thought about the Mamba quite a bit. My only (but it is rather major) gripe with the mamba is it’s thermals. It is incredibly difficult to make a “cold” mamba. But if you are will to deal with detection at that level, it’s a great option!
Forgive me but I think the 3 Guardian Module Reinforcement Packages won’t make it going through the maelstrom. They’ll melt before reaching their destination, or something changed? I know Guardian Hull will work but your image says “preferred” for Guardian Module Reinforcements.
I think you made a TYPO in your image of your load-out - you show it as 'Guardian modules preferred' (for Module Reinforcements).... I hear you saying 10:10 NOT to use them and later, that Hull Reinforcements are the ONLY Guardian mod that will not disintegrate in the Maelstroms.....
@@Astyrrean Correct. i just edited it for my 'records' - ppl like u help my education SOOO much.. it's in my notes and now our Squadron notes too (Ratpac).... Keep up the good work!
Guardian Hull and Shield Reinforcement Packages are the only Guardian modules that don’t melt in the Maelstrom - you can use those, as they don’t have module integrity of their own.
TitanSpace is unforgiving. But if you fight at Spires or "easier" places, you can do so with little or no engineering. Check the #ship-builds channel in the AXI discord; a "no-engineering beginner AX Krait Mk2 build" is pinned there.
Too marvelous for words, so just ← Comment for algorithm + 👍 'd #OldManPaxus Rating: ☆☆☆☆ - _P.s. Just a note for your audio in future vids... your narration track was a bit soft compared to your bg music..._
Unfortunately you won’t find all that many AX builds for the T10 because, despite its original description, it is an exceptionally challenging ship to use for AX. If you really are hell bent on at least trying it, then a class 5 experimental weapon stabilizer will let you mount 4L2M of the gimballed enhanced AX multi cannons, which is probably your best bet. You can buy those at rescue megaships.
My build is almost identical, the main difference is 1 extra TV beam instead of a medium AXMC, and a 6A power plant with low emissions instead of 7A. I just wish i could use it for more than 20 minutes without dying 😆
The 6A plant is actually a better choice, as it gives you another 4 m/s speed with zero downsides (except having to engineer a dedicated plant) good call on that one. The second TV beam is overkill IMO and actually can be counter-productive as beams are capacitor hungry. You can fire all weapons with a single beam while staying cold on 3 WEP; can you do the same with two beams? (Also, two beams is lower dps)
@@Astyrrean yeah i will probably switch a beam for another AXMC after watching this vid. Thanks! I’ve not tested on 3 WEP as i usually just go 0-2-4 when doing AX.
you will need other ships to fight the bigger Interceptors. I got ganked from one after he followed me for 10 minutes, i even fought of a Glave while he was watching me lol. very interesting encounter, i killd the Glave, did get back on cooling myself of at the Titan, and he was still looking at me ^^ I mean i was always under 20% heat, but that was scary lol. And then i got too comfortable and lost track of my heat, and all Hell broke loose 🤣 They pull out Swarms and everything. I was gone in 1 Minute or something, so Flak launcher is a must have since your not able to take plasma chargers or something like that in there, you have to fight the swarms too, nothing with insta kill builds in there. for me those 4 AX multi is the bare minimum, then you need cooling lasers and flak launcher. Id even go that far and say Medium Ships are just to get your first look on there. Also the Space in the middle of the Malestrom is very limited those 540 speed, where do you wanna go ? 😅 its not that you can flee or try to cold orbiting in that small bubble. Maybe i just have to get use to it, i actualy havent even fought Thargoids in Space, only settlements, so dont ask me what im doing in there anyways 🙈 I had to take a look. and it didnt disappoint.
This build can handle a Basilisk solo. You can broadly ignore swarms. Check out my other vids if you want a demo. But if you intend to fight Dusas and Hydras, you'll need friends. Glaives die too fast to be a worry.

I also mention that others may prefer MilGrade and I understand that. You may be in the latter camp, but calling that design choice “absurd” is a little harsh, don’t you think?
@@Astyrrean on your picture it says: 3x Module reinf. packages (guardian version preffered). And you are right, should have use more mild words. I'm sorry. Still, when you deal with caustic damage during breaching maelstrom, I don't think some extra speed is worth sacrificing so much needed hull points.
@@kempo79 Picture is incorrect - mentioned that in the video description; the voice-over is correct. Breaching maelstrom with caustic sinks means you can avoid all damage. Again, personal choice ... the extra speed is the difference between outrunning a Basilisk or a Basilisk catching you. The extra hull ... is just +25% hull. Which is not insignificant, but not a game-changer in my view.
@@Astyrrean you won't try to outrun a basilisk in maelstrom, don't you? And I don't think there's enough room to cold orbit, so you will get hit by caustic missiles - or caustic mines, that are present in the core of maelstrom. So unless you will synthetize more caustic sinks, you'll need every hull point you can get. Not to mention you'll get other damage, not only caustic, because, again, cold orbit is not a viable option. 25% is 1/4 of your hull so it's A LOT.
@@kempo79 You will need to outrun basilisks on the way to the Maelstrom each time. Furthermore, you will want shake Glaives off your tail around the Titan - and that also requires a very fast ship.
