  • lets build a layered photo backdrop! This backdrop is for my fathers Ho scale layout but the method can be used on any scale.
Here is a link to the software I used here:

This is the glue I use to attach the backdrop to the wall:

i thought maybe you fell and hit your head at the start, listening to you explain the process. I didn't think it would look nearly as good as it does. WOW. really a good way to do back drops, like you said just takes time. but so does everything else we do on our layouts.
I am going to have to check out the company. and maybe take a page out of your video, book. lol. thanks for the tip and trick.

Nice tutorial Mike. I like the layering of the two photo backdrops you are doing. Looking forward to seeing this on your Dad's layout. Great work.

Nice job Mike, the layered effect is very realistic and I can imagine this will look great on your father’s layout. A couple of comments: you lost me a bit as to the actual usage of the single hole punch around the trees and I noticed around the branches at the tops of the tallest trees that you left a portion of the original sky in the photo around each branch.
Is the intent to have the portion of the original sky (that’s left uncut around the tallest branches) match the layer of painted sky on your father’s background boards?
    Excellent work!

twrandle thanks, in hindsight I probably should have shown how I used the hole punch instead of using a blade to cut around the trees. Like you saw in the video I punched close to them but I didn’t cut the trees as I didn’t want to loose any detail in them and the blue remaining will match the wall the backdrop goes on. My website has a single layer backdrop I did earlier if you want to see how it matches. Pics of this one will be up as soon as I get time. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
