Ralph Moody is one of the many reasons I became a Ford fan in the '60s. Holman Moody, the Wood Bros. and Bud Moore. Three of the greatest teams in Nascar history. Wish they were all still with us. I would've loved to have met them and bought em a beer.
As a kid, Ralph Moody was my next door neighbor. He was an awesome person. Always outside in his carport working on cars, sometimes into the middle of the night. I definitely learned a lot from him.
Just learned today that Ralph Moody and John Holman are on the ballot for the Class of 2019 for the NASCAR Hall of Fame. When you think of super teams of NASCAR in the 1960's, the three names that come to mind are Petty Enterprises, Wood Brothers, Holman-Moody.
I remember David Pearson at Mobile Speedway when I was 12 or 13 yrs old in the late 1960's. I worked at that track and was in the pit during the race. Pearson had done well and after the race, already in the pit, I walked over to his pit area. He had jumped into the open end of a tractor trailer rig in avoidance of the crowd that was soon to be in the pit. I walked over about ten feet away from him looking. He looked at me like he could not understand why I was there- 18year minimum age in the pit. He was a great driver and a pleasure to watch on the track that I was very familiar with. I was always a Wood Brothers/Pearson fan. Pearson was the best ever. Their were other greats there from time to time: Bobby and Donnie Allison, Red Farmer, Marty Robbins, along with the local greats that never had a break into the "big time".
Thanks for the post and to all those that help put bring this story to life. The Golden age of racing kind of like the time when the skies were wide open and pam am cross the world - thanks so much for posting
I visited Mr Moody to get a hand's on design for a racing oil pan for a modified Sunbeam Tiger. Little did I realize my chats with him and Junior Johnson, Carroll Shelby and Ak Miller, was the stuff of legend. Ask a question then have a memory like a tpe recorder for an hour's dissertation.
+Fred Stallings And Smokey Yunick, except for his history of cheating against Nascar and Big Bill, he was involved with Nascar's early pros Herb Thomas, Marshall Teague, Curtis Turner and Paul Goldsmith in the days when they ran the Hudson Hornet, Pontiacs and the Chevy Bel Air. Building cars and engines and crew chiefing for them in those times.
only 3 comments and a couple thousand views, I guess being a gearhead is a lost art. but then again true gearheads still at it don't have time for this. great vid
Very interesting about an interesting person. But I hate when someone put background music behind the speaker voice. Sometimes difficult to hear what they are saying.
I spend more time watching these (60s-70s, even some 80s) vids than I do watching today's teeny boppers racing. Big money f'd it up. Thanks to eBay I've got a bunch of 60s & 70s Stock Car Magazine(s) and reliving my past, and the decade before it. Hang on every word. Just unbelievable how great it was, and what a damn joke it is today. MRN still does good, but FOX & NBC is sickning. I'd prefer Junior just do it all if I'm going to watch it, and leave the producer OUT OF his ear.
RALPH MOODY MADE BENNY PARSONS CHAMPON IN 1973 WHEN BENNY HAD THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR TORN OFF INCLUDING THE ROLLBARS RALPH TOLD BENNY TO TAKE ANY THING FROM A PARKED CAR THAT MISSED THE RACE ,HE SAID HE TAKE CARE OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ODIE
I'm a Ford guy...and Moody is one of the Ford Racing gods we tip our hats to!

Meet him at Darlington raceway circa 1970 he gave me an autograph card
Saw him win at Ontario, Ca. in '76. Best day ever. Place was deserted. Maybe 10,000 in a venue that held 150,000+.
RIP Mr.Moody, one of racing's greatest of all time!!!
According to interviews with various former employees Holman kept Ralph on the road and out of the way so he could manage the shop and the employees.
Thanks for the post and to all those that help put bring this story to life. The Golden age of racing kind of like the time when the skies were wide open and pam am cross the world - thanks so much for posting

That 17 Ford was sharp but the Purolator 21 Mercury is my all time favorite.
What infuriates me is that some asshole decided to pull the plug on Speed channel. There was only 1 channel on my television. Shame on them.
SPEED was owned by FOX and became FS1.
THIS STUFF IS PRICELESS.KEEP THESE GREAT UPLOADS COMING!
Holy hell, that's Tom Cotter, from the Hagerty Channel here on RUclips...that dude knows his stuff, especially about Fords :)
its a crime that he is not in the nascar hall of fame. he invented half the stuff they are using today
+Dylan Watson incoherent
He will be, I feel sure.
@@dylanwatson9300 Who in the hell doesn't chest in NASCAR.
I hope he goes in the 2021 Hall of Fame
Remember when Holman-Moody won Le Mans 1965?? One the best days of my life.
NO stick and ball games NEVER!!!!
+Greg Johnson - I think you mean 1966.
+John Ford LOL
Ford won le Mans. Holman Moody built the engines. Carol Shelby's team got the win. And ut happened in 1966 and a year later in 1967.

Holy cow. Is there a second in this video when the background music isn't drowning out the narration?
Pro tip for the producer - background music is supposed to be in the background.
Davey Allison with a 460 Boss... Two Imaginary hero's...
Very interesting about an interesting person. But I hate when someone put background music behind the speaker voice. Sometimes difficult to hear what they are saying.
Just watched Ford Vs Ferrari with his nephew. He noticed a lot of things and mentioned something about the death in the movie.
About to watch this with my son the drag racer, Brian.
I agree he should have been in the hall of fame.
it ain't over yet....
do you have any more episodes of NASCAR Drivers 360?
David Pearson
Hey, it's the Barn Find guy for Hagerty
exelent video. about a great mechanic named ralph.
great content, but the music makes it almost unbearable.
I spend more time watching these (60s-70s, even some 80s) vids than I do watching today's teeny boppers racing.
