    Elvis interview; March 31, 1972 - Hollywood, California
    • Elvis interview; March...
    Elvis interviewed after his rehearsals at the RCA Studio A in Hollywood - originally filmed for the 1972 film "Elvis On Tour" but barely anything was used in the final cut, which is a shame as it is one of the more intimate interviews Elvis ever gave.
    Pierre Adidge and Robert Abel were the two guys responsible for the interview, as well as the whole 1972 movie in general.
    hey guys, this is a 1972 uncut unedited interview from ep. theer aint a lot of it, not because he wasn't open and willing to talk, but because his manager was so controlling and kept him away from the press unless he ok'd it. this was the one thing i hate about his career. the greatest entertainer of all time released in 1969 on his comeback suspicious minds, burning love, a whole memhis record that was and is revered, and it nearly didn't get released. unless the manager got 50% of the publishing from any song he sung, he was not allowed to cut the track. this is why you see him sing so much cover music as the 70's went on. i think this interview ill give you some insight into who he was, and where he was at at the time. you know it's hardly surprising really that he became addicted to prescription meds, his creative freedom was not there. but what a career, and that is restrained. i guess on the flip side the manager did have to deal with the early controversy which was bordering on being sent to prison !! enjoy

    He was always willing to talk to reporters and even signed autographs for fans that came up. He had said many times, that without the fans he would have been nothing. He only had the fans in the beginning when the world was against him. I hope you will show all the opposition he had in the 50's in the wonderful short documentary, "Elvis Presley and the Black Community", he had some rough times. I been there since 1956, and I just love your Elvis reactions, you two are so cute. thanks and Be Blessed

    He was a shy man really... humble and respectful.....I still don't think he knew how much he was loved by his fans and respected by other artists...he didn't stay as an artist in the 50s like alot of them did but he evolved and 40 odd years after his passing he is still the figure that others are compared to...if there was a long table on which only the greatest music entertainers could sit, he would be the head of that table....nice review

    JD Sumner said Elvis was trying to get into one of their "singings"and didn't have any money,so JD let him come in and said he could always come and never have to pay. JD told him "one day, I'll be paying to see you"! Like Elvis said,he was only 15. Well,the rest is history

    Inspired recommendation for a reaction.. Elvis' shyness and humility is seen and heard here. And notice also, how little he talks about what he's most famous for and how much he references the music that means the most to him.

    Although the control, and financial issues by Parker were real, and at times detrimental to Elvis’s career, he had a wide range of songs to choose from. He never wrote lyrics himself. After leaving the movie contracts, he said he wouldn’t do any songs he didn’t believe in. I think his choices during his later career were pretty damn good. Thanks for sharing!

    I'm 61 years old, English and grew up knowing Elvis originally thru my mum who was a massive fan. I'm probably an even bigger fan than her now. Lol. This is so so sad. I wish everyone could watch this and see what a beautiful humble person he was. I read... or should I say 'started' to read an interview from Elton John where he basically said he loved Elvis until he met him and progressed to ridicule him because of his weight and the fact how he used to forget the lyrics to songs etc etc... It made me appreciate Elvis even more. Even the Beatles said on record how they were 'disappointed' when they met Elvis because of mainly the way he looked. Well, all I can say is that if it wasn't for Elvis the likes of Elton John and the Beatles wouldn't even be mentioned and have a voice. Elvis, in my opinion was the best entertainer of the modern era. No one knows what impact other entertainers had before film etc but in the era of our technology I truly believe Elvis was number one. 'And', 'if' he had toured Europe and further maybe he could have been even more influencual, who knows.? But more importantly, he was a humble and kind man.

    E's cool glasses were prescription because of his glaucoma ❤❤❤

  • @Jeri_C11
    @Jeri_C11 10 месяцев назад +5

    People used to think he wore the glasses to be cool but at a very young age he had glaucoma and had to have a needle put in his right eye to release the pressure. Later on the stage lights would bother him so that he’d sit in his dressing room with tears rolling down his cheeks from his eyes. The salt from perspiration and the lights caused him so much trouble. Elvis had a lot of physical ailments that unfortunately were genetic and he’d tell people he wasn’t going to live for long. He actually told two women he’d die by the age of 42. This was part of the reasons he took the prescription medicine so he’d be able to push his body later to get through so many shows every night. There’s a book out by Sally Hoedel called Destined to Die Young. It’s a very interesting and remarkable book with a lot of scientific research that went into the genetics of his family and his physical ailments. It’s believed that in the 22/23 years he was famous he wanted to push as much living into his life as he could. His mom died at a young age too and that’s the side of the family that had the problems.

    The King with the long hair and tinted glasses...
    A lot of people don't realize that Elvis wore glasses when not performing on stage. Since his glasses are tinted many assume they are sunglasses, in fact tho they are tinted prescription lenses.

    JD Sumner was the bass singer of the Stamps Quartet, but JD also hired another bass singer to also sing with them. The last image on that video was that bass singer, Richard Sterban. He later went on to become the bass singer for the Oak Ridge Boys, and is best known for the bass part of the song “Elvira.”

  • @RobertNorthrop
    @RobertNorthrop 10 месяцев назад +6

    Elvis is referring to JD Sumner and the Stamps at the beginning of this interview. You can catch JD's low bass vocalizations in many of Elvis's 1970s stage performanes. They joined the touring band as the key male backups, replacing the Imperials in 1971. If you catch some of his earliest interviews back in 1955 and 1956, he clearly has a nervous stutter. Much more confident by 1972. However, of note - he was often incredibly sleep deprived and heavily medicated starting later in 1971 through the rest of the years or his life, abbreviated with brief intervals of going cold turkey like he did for the 1973 Aloha performances.

    Not so fun fact - this was around the time he was diagnosed with glauchoma, and rarely seen without his dark glasses afterwards, apart from his shows. Something which he never let be known, and is still relatively unknown (he frequently had to have injections in his eyes, one time urgently without any medication). When Elvis died his vision was very poor.

    Elvis was not bordering on being sent to prison. The movie crammed in a lot of exaggerated bits and pieces that were not real, mixed with Some real in the beginning of the movie at the Memphis concert b4 he went into army. On line It tells you. He was never arrested or about to be. Plus they exaggerated his teasing the fans, by make it look very lude when it wasn’t. They crammed all this wrong stuff in then, because Priscilla and Lisa Marie were not around yet. They could not input or object. The conflict Elvis has is the old guard thought he was bringing whites down to the level of blacks, they moved more, more animated in singing, where the whites were stiff sticks, b4 Elvis. And they were segregated, kept apart from each other. Elvis kicked down these doors of segregation, and a few I’m sure wanted him out of the picture. But he never Broke the law and he complied with a judge in FL to not move. He only moved his little finger. They put that at the Memphis concert and made it look like he did not comply. That part of the movies was blasphemous in my opinion but I only saw the initial long trailer. They cut it out Of the trailer as it made one who knew mad. The trailer I saw initial had that in there so I wasn’t even going to watch the movie until I saw the shorter trailer you guys watched. And heard more about the rest of the movie. Parker as a carny wanted to emphasize crazy stuff for publicity. So he didn’t deal with it, he stirred it. All Parker did good was get him to rca and on TV and he about destroyed Elvis the last 4 years of movies. Elvis was so down he almost did not make a comeback. People were talking of him as a joke and laughing about him.. songs in those later ones like old McDonald, he was promised would never be on record out side the skit for the movie. All those promises were broken and Parker had to have allowed it. He was being looked at like a joke. If it were not for the 68 comeback where they kept Parker busy and away from him there Would be no more greatness. Parker tried hard to sabotage it all the way. And he didn’t get the writers rights of those songs so he worked with Elvis dad who was very uneducated and kept these producers away from Elvis even tho Elvis wanted to work more with them. Parker knew he was risking loosing Elvis if he did and would stir his dad up. Later a court ruled parkers fees were extortion after Elvis death. Much more bad was learned about Parker worse than known b4 and why he left the Netherlands and came here illegally and never work to get his citizenship so Elvis could tour internationally.

    Everyone’s manager keeps their act away from the press unless they approve it. As they should. As someone who was in the music business at the time, I guarantee you EVERY major artist would have had Tom Parker as their manager, if they could. He was highly respected in the business. The revisionist lies being said about him are garbage, told by people who weren’t there at the time.

    FYI Elvis had prescription drugs. Did he abuse them? Yes, but please read destined to die young It will put in context the reasons why and how he became addicted to pink killers, which were all prescribed for the 9 of 11 bodily systems that were failing. Given what I know about his medical history and the autoimmune disease which is difficult to diagnose even today, i'm totally amazed that he can even sing particularly in nineteen seventy seven the last concert he ever he sang whete he sang unchained melody and hurt which you have covered. I have seen vibe reactions where he reacts on this book. Perhaps you can do a review as well?
