hi guys, this is the first song from the sit down show in the 68 special. he was extremely nervous, to the point he almost didn't come out. even so i love this performance - what a talent. what a showman. i've never been able to work out why some people say he had an average voice. to me it's just so unique. in fact so unique that Pavarotti from the 3 tenors said "Elvis presely" when asked who he would like to sound like if he had a choice. Respect ! cheers,

Those who say Elvis was average...who were they comparing him to vocally because no one has the combination of the range, the feeling, the depth, the interpretation of a song and also the ability to sing all genres like Elvis...he was the whole deal and on top of that he had the other stuff as well, looks, charisma, style, humour and he also had respect for other artists....I also think as shown here, he was always making fun of himself.....nice review

Pavarotti once said "I cant sing like Elvis, but Elvis can sing like me". Another famous opera singer Kiri te Kanawa was once asked by a journalist who in the world she thought had the best voice , she surprised the journalist who thought she would mention another opera singer, when she said "Elvis in the early 60' " !

When the clip begins and he says, "Been a long time, Jack." He's referring to the fact this was his first live performance since he got out of the Army. He was nervous about the whole thing because while he was away and out of the public eye, the world of pop and rock music was changing, especially because of the enormous influence of those four lads from Liverpool. Elvis didn't know if he'd lost his fan base and wondered if anyone would still like his music. That's why this TV special became known as the '68 "Come Back" special. This sit-down portion of the show featured him singing several of the songs that had made him famous in his earlier years. Obviously he had nothing to worry about. His fans never abandoned him and we still enamored of him to this day, long after he died. In a way, it's almost as if he's still with us. That's how impactful his presence in the world of entertainment had become. Oh wait. He did have one thing to worry about: His a**hole, blood-sucking manager, Tom Parker. By the way, if you haven't seen Baz Luhrmann's 2022 epic biopic, "ELVIS", you're missing out.

Of all the songs that Elvis has recorded until his death in 1977, he won 3 Grammys for Gospel Music. That special shows Elvis' fun and adlibbed side. He is loyal to his family and friends. Now, Elvis' granddaughter, Riley Keough (Lisa Marie's daughter) inherited her famous grandfather's property and music after her mother died early this year.

@@bwana-ma-coo-bah425"So what it boils down to was Elvis produced his own records. He came to the session, picked the songs, and if something in the arrangement was changed, he was the one to change it. Everything was worked out spontaneously. Nothing was really rehearsed. Many of the important decisions normally made previous to a recording session were made during the session. What it was, a look to the future. Today everybody makes records this way. Back then Elvis was the only one. He was the forerunner of everything that's record production these days. Consciously or unconsciously, everybody imitated him. People started doing what Elvis did."

This was Elvis's comeback show. He'd been making a bunch of less than excellent movies (and finally finished his contract for them). Originally it was going to be a flashy with showgirls and flashing lights etc. but Elvis wanted to get back to what he loved. Him, the guitar, the audience. When he came out in the black leather he had the ladies... when he started performing and it was fun and exciting he got the men. The thing is Elvis had a good (unique) voice, he was good looking (a lot had that) but what made Elvis different.. he was pure charisma. Whatever the X factor is.. he had 2 scoops.

I'll bet you the ones who said that can't hold a note. All he had to do was walk into the room and say nothing and the women went crazy. If you watch his shows the men in the audience enjoyed him just as much. I'm glad Matt gave you this one because he is so much of a jokester.

Elvis had the rare voice that could pull any emotion out of you - joy, sorrow, heartbreak, love, reverie, and do it in every genre of the time. You want heart wrenching sadness? Try I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen and/or Danny Boy. You want joy? Blue Suede Shoes, Patch it Up. Peace? Mansion Over the Hilltop or Miracle of the Rosary. True pure love? Save The Last Dance for Me. I could go on and on, but anybody who has heard Elvis sing Surrender, My Way, Rags to Riches, If I Can Dream, Green, Green Grass of Home, Bridge Over Troubled Waters and hundreds of others and really listened to them could never say he was a mediocre singer. No way.

Elvis was an outstanding unique singer. I think that some superfans throughout the years would claim that Elvis had the greatest voice ever. That is not remotely true and Elvis would quickly say the same. I think in my opinion he is the most charismatic. vocalist ever The closest would be Michael Jackson. However, Michael Jackson wrote a good number of songs but Elvis never wrote a published song.

How many songs a person writes has nothing to do with voice quality. Plenty of song writers are not professional singers. They consider themselves song writers not singers. They make their money by shopping their songs to others and getting royalties. Personally, I think Elvis’ voice was best between 1967 and 1971. I don’t think any singer can be considered the “best.” I thing Adam Lambert’s voice is amazing. Others might not agree. It’s a matter of opinion.

FYI, this segment was included in the show at the directors insistence. It was completely unrehearsed and was an opportunity to show Elvis as his friends and family see him just "jamming" to whatever songs they felt like singing with no rules or script. The director gave Elvis a list of some of his most popular songs (because Elvis, after spending the previous 7 years doing movies ( instead of performing) couldn't remember them all. It was left completely u To Elvis what song they would break into, whenever he got the notion. Elvis would often have visitors to his dressing room which usually would end up in an impromptu jam session. The director happened upon one of these sessions and thought it would be great to include a segment of this into the TV show, unrehearsed.

The Colonel wanted a corny Christmas program, but, for once, E. put his foot down. Steve Binder ("The T.A.M.I. Show") produced. Singer sponsored.

Elvis DIDN'T write. He didn't write a single song in his lifetime. But he didn't need to write.

Elvis didn’t write any of his song, although he did collaborate on two of them. Often he would have an idea and ask someone else to write the sound such as in the ghetto written by Mac Davis.

Christmas songs by Elvis - Blue Christmas (beautiful), Santa Claus is back in town (knock your socks off - it is not the Mariah Carey song).
