- Cutting Crew are an English rock band formed in London in 1985. They are best known for their debut album Broadcast and hit singles, "(I Just) Died in Your Arms", "I've Been in Love Before", "One for the Mockingbird", and "Everything But My Pride".
While still in his teens, Nick Van Eede (born Nicholas Eede) recorded a few UK solo singles in the late 1970s, and later was in the band The Drivers, which found success in Canada, particularly with their 1982 single "Tears On Your Anorak". While touring Canada, The Drivers had a support band called Fast Forward, whose line up included guitarist Kevin MacMichael. Van Eede was so impressed with MacMichael's guitar playing that he asked him to form a new band with him. The Drivers split in 1983, but Van Eede and MacMichael joined forces in 1985 by relocating to London, England. Initially, the two made demos that led to a recording contract, before bassist Colin Farley and drummer Martin "Frosty" Beedle joined in 1986.
Their first album, Broadcast, was released on Virgin Records in 1986. The song "(I Just) Died in Your Arms" was mixed in London at Utopia Studios by Tim Palmer. Although Virgin Records was already a major label in the UK, their debut song, "(I Just) Died in Your Arms", provided the first US hit for Virgin as a full-fledged label.The song was released as the lead single from their debut studio album, Broadcast (1986). It was first released on 25 July 1986 in the United Kingdom, and then released to the United States on 1 January 1987. The song was written by frontman Nick Van Eede, produced by Terry Brown, John Jansen and the band.
The song was the band's biggest hit, peaking at number one in the United States, Canada and Finland, and reaching the top five in the UK, South Africa, Sweden and Switzerland.
It reached #9 in the Dutch Top 40 on 29 November 1986.
This performance was recorded and broadcast by TROS during the Diamond Awards Festival December 29, 1987.

"Broadcast" was my favorite album of 1987. While I loved the song featured in this video, it was the follow-up single "One For The Mockingbird" that really put them on my map. Then they demonstrated amazing diversity by following that with a gorgeous ballad, "I've Been In Love Before". Then the fourth and final single from the album, "Any Colour" ended the year with a bang. Cheers to the Cutting Crew.

I like the arrangement of this- the pulsing synth-hiccups, the soft purr of the cello, the boom of the drums, and the guitar sparkles, while the main riff is a splintered, evocative, new wavey thing,
"(I Just) Died in Your Arms" is nonetheless very much of its time when songs deployed big, gated drum sounds and keyboards that were usually louder than the guitar and when many of the singers had artfully billowy trench coats and lightly floofy haircuts.
