Banana Republics - Bob Barrick & Josh Turner

- Written by Steve Goodman, "Banana Republics" is a Jimmy Buffett tune that I first brought to Josh five years ago, hoping he'd teach me how to play the intro. I never did learn it, but there's a caveat: him knowing it was the impetus behind me finally getting him to cover Buffett with me. Look out, world!

Looking for tabs and there's Josh and there's Bob doing it full justice. Josh Turner, Mr. Music of my life.
Sitting on a porch swing, picking guitar and singing some Jimmy Buffett. Life doesn't get any better than this. Thanks for making this tired old 70 year-old guy's day. My faith in humanity has been restored.
Steve Goodman originally wrote this one. Check him out if you get a chance
I know what you mean - it cheers the heart of this 60 year old lady too! I love to see such talented young people playing acoustic music.
I've concluded that Josh knows, and works with every musician on RUclips lol
They used to play in a band together, for anyone who doesn’t know that.
He only plays with the good ones.
Really great to see musicians from our generation tipping the hat to Steve Goodman.
Ah Steve Goodman! And so well covered!!
I'm a huge Josh Turner fan and, thanks Josh, I have just discovered Bob Barrick. Wow, what a voice! Carry on Mr. Barrick.
Kudos to you guys! Terrific performance! I dare say, I prefer your rendition to Jimmy's (RIP). The guitar and vocals are marvelous. Wonderful voice, Bob, and Josh's other worldly guitar playing, as everyone who has seen him knows, is simply exquisite.
Steve, stands alone. Rocks, Jimmy is my hero, LOL. Both deserve respect!!!! God Bless.
Nice synthesis between the Goodman original and the Buffett rendering... paced nicely!
Great tribute to Steve, who will never be forgotten!
You both knocked that one out of the park
Best cover I’ve heard…well done
Man, for a moment I had forgotten about Steve Goodman, but he was a great writer and singer. "This Hotel Room" and "Chicken Cordon Bleus" are a couple of my favourites, but this one too is a fabulous song, pointed, critical, and sorrowful all at the same time.
City of New Orleans, You Can't Call Me Darlin, Darlin and, of course, A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request (perhaps only for Cub fans).
@@patrickfort4467 "My Old Man". And while it's not his song, I always loved his cover of "The Dutchman".
Great duo, loved it!
Nice job! Brings back memories of club singers in the 70's.
Some damn fine guitar work!I love this song you guys did good!
And who can forget the most popular Steve Goodman song of all, played at Wrigley after every victory:
"Go Cubs go,
Go Cubs go,
Hey Chicago, what do ya say,
The Cubs are going to win today"
That one is probably tied with "city of New Orleans" popularity wise.
@@ericengblade My other favorite of his was "You Don't Even Call Me by My Name", sung by David Allen Coe, which contains what he called the "perfect" country song lyric, as it contains references to every country music theme:
"I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison/I went to pick her up in the rain/But before I could get to the station in my pickup truck/She got run over by a damned old train!"
And A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request❣️
Josh on the twelve string adds some really nice depth to this, well done!
I agree!
Kingdom Jasmine, once again, brings a unique song and performance. Beautifully played and sung. So good to see you again with Josh. Thank you.
Just watched Bob's tribute to JB. What better way to top it off than with a Buffett tune written by the ultimate songwriter Steve Goodman! Thanks guys. As usual, the best. Burlington Bill busking on the road and here on you tube.
Just heard your cover of Come Monday. Then I find you are friends with Josh. Josh is my present guitar hero! I've had so many. Beautiful cover Love watching all the talent out there. This is Burlington Bill busking here on you tube and on the road.
Wonderfully perfect.
Great song. Love the guitar work.
Very nice! (Glad that you left the little mistake... very human and it was awesome!)

Enjoyed the use of the 12 string to compliment John's song,
Liked it,
Beautiful! 👍
Dam thats a quality cover there👍 Nice pickin son
This song was written by Steve Goodman Jimmy's good Chicago compadre....Steve also wrote Arlo Guthrie's biggest hit..."City of New Orleans". He was super talented and a hell of a nice guy.
Nice Sunday morning listen.
One of my favorite Jimmy tunes. Well done.
Great Jimmy Buffett tune. 👏
Steve Goodman originally wrote this one. Check him out if you get the chance
I first heard it on a Jimmy Buffet album and later saw Steve Goodman perform it several times.@@ericengblade
Congratulations on your wedding Bob. (Right?) I love this.
Not for another six months. But thanks in advance!

Appreciation tweet for Josh's hair and collar combo
kinda has that johnny greenwood look
Joshy, it’s been a while since you’ve had a haircut 💇♂️
Shared on Facebook by the official Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefers.
Buffett recorded it but the song was written by Steve
Goodman.
Indeed! I was just in Key West performing at a festival, and one of my sets was a Steve Goodman tribute. This was high on the list!
That intro is off by a few notes but overall I give an A for effort
Prince Harry on the 6 string….
I much prefer the Opie comparison.
I'm getting a young Leon Helm vibe, but that's just me. Loved the song!
