I agree with @thesnoopmeistersnoops5167 & @CabezasDePescado, sometimes you need that shocking ending to just jolt you out of your own personal bubble. I remember the shock me and a friend had when watching Seven in the cinema at release. When the film ended I just sat there and honestly just said 'fuck' in total shock, but it was true to the film, as iirc Morgan Freeman's character even says something along the lines that the case won't have a happy ending to Pitt's character. I also recall reading /hearing about Brad Pitt threatened to not promote the film when the studio wanted to change the ending to a happier one. Personally for 28 Days Later I think either ending would have worked well.
One of the saddest things I've ever seen in a film, Selena was correct when she said it was better that they died peacefully but jesus christ imagine being Jim in that moment.
The ending with the Finnish plane was perfect. I am not sure about the sequel as it has well-known stars in it. Back then, only Christopher Eccleston and Brendan Gleeson were known. That made the film even more fresh, in my opinion.
@ tbh I like underwhelming performances. I hate when I can tell they’re acting or the emotion seems too much based on what I know of their characters until that point.
Que yo sepa, acá en mi país si llego a cines el final alternativo, lo pasaban como escena post creditos. (Es más, en el poster de cines te ponían, la primera película con dos finales o algo asi)
Could have worked as well to show him waking up and than dying in a hospital is so all around just coming full circle. Also hits Selena so hard Jim's death. Showing life and caring for one another truly matters.
I love the realism in this. Selena clearly knows minimal medical knowledge, a bit like what you learn from watching a soap opera. This allows the audience believe he will be saved - however it is inaccurate and deceptive, it won't save him.
This could have been the original ending the writer wanted. In the 28 days later graphic novel that follows Selena after the events that occurred at the Worsley House, we find her all alone without Jim and Hannah. She even has dialogue later that, I think, suggests the military had something to do with them being separated, maybe implying their deaths. Plus Jim is now being teased in 28 years later as maybe dead or infected. So we are likely looking at a merked Jim after the events of 28 days.
@ thats true. He definitely survived the bullet then, but that could be the shock news report of the survivors being found, and then something bad happening after salvation
It was confirmed that the zombie that was in the trailer that looked like him isn’t actually him it’s a fashion designer he’s been seen on set as a human thank god
@@RolandoRatas That has been confirmed as false. That shot of the zombie in the trailer is not Cillian Murphy, so we will likely see Jim still alive. It would be pointless to bring him back as a zombie.
@@tiago77907 Cillian Murphy hasn’t been confirmed for 28 years later, but he has been confirmed to return in at least one of the three movies coming out. So either way, we will be seeing Jim again at some point.
I think this ending was a lot better than the more Hollywood ending we got. It fits better with the bleak tone the film has from the start and that shot of them both leaving the hospital as were doors closing was beautiful and way ahead of its time. A metaphor for them leaving Jim and that chapter behind them. The use of Brian Eno’s - An Ending (Ascent) perfectly fit the hopelessness they felt when they both finally accepted Jim was dead. I suspect studio heads pressured Danny Boyle to choose the ending we got because they knew this film was the best ever, grounded, realistic take on the zombie/virus/end of the world genre and they wanted to leave the door open to make a sequel. Funny how the sequel finally came and it was just another mehh Hollywood zombie film. Really hoping the new film is more grounded and believable like the first film.
@@olof_meister yes I agree it wasn’t but the ending always felt way off to me and it was a Hollywood ending. It felt like studio heads pressured Danny Boyle into changing it because it really never fit with the overall tone of the film in my opinion. That’s y I prefer the alternate ending and I reckon that was Danny Boyles original vision. 28 weeks later was definitely just another Hollywood zombie film. 28 days later is a brilliant film even with the ending in not a fan of.
I’m going to miss both Salena and Hannah when the new one comes out next year. The three of them were a good team together. But I’m glad Jim survived and that they didn’t use this ending from the first film.
Not that I minded the happy ending they went for, but I feel like I would not have been mad even if this would have been picked as the original ending. At the end of the day, to story of the outbreak is experienced through many characters, and its ok if some of those characters die at some point. Even if they were a main character.
I personally think they should have still gone to this ending then also go for the theatrical one with the plane rescue scene later on by excluding jim in the scene, hannah and selena were the only characters making out alive at the end Its seems rather fitting for jim's arc even tho how depressing it seems, he can finally be with his parents in peace after saving the 2 people he cared
I''ve never seen this since I watched it lastly like 4 or 5 years ago, thanks a lot. Now I'm thinking well about it I think this ending would be kind of appropiate just for how this begins and how ends: fits perfectly.
In the new 28 Years Later sequel due for release in June 2025, his character comes back as some weird zombie form. Wonder if Selena and the other girl come back now that they are both older. Unless they are both dead in the movie.

Usually before he movies goes out in the theaters it needs to be watched by some people, and they’ll give out feedback. There’s actually 3 endings to this movie. However, this alternate ending didn’t receive quite a good rating. So they had to change it
It would be a bad decision. Not only is there almost no ground to do so (as it's a hospital), but there is also probably loads of infected around too. Infected probably attracted to the hospital by the screaming.
Anyone else binge the 28days and 28weeks movies after the trailer or was just me . Can't wait to see how story ends next year
The story doesn't end next year. It's a trilogy.
Glad they changed ending, the film needed some sort of happy ending.
Somewhat disagree. We're British.
Happy endings are too hollywood

@siffegy George W. Floyd (the W stands for white)
At least with this one there's a zero percent chance of Jim becoming a Rager.

Seems the girl's acting is better here than in the rest of the movie lol.
Really? I was just thinking how she was worse, or atleast in line of the rest of the movie
Hannah’s kinda sucked here
Some actors are a 1 trick pony. Great at the emotional sequences and lack-luster with the normal dialogue

Fun fact: Although was not included in the theatrical showings, this ending was featured in multiple TV airings of the film after the credits.

I prefer the ending we got instead of this one.
I prefer This alternative ending. Since it was a faulty shot! In the infected world it doesn’t always turn out in your favor.

You know what makes any 28 days later clip worthy of a thumbs up? If it has the horses theme from the original movie.
Brian Eno - Ascent it’s a great piece of music
There were few endings to this movie including the Chicken ending, what if, Jim's last dream and the Scientist/patient one ending.

Jim should've listened to his Parents and not woken up from his coma.
Watching him read that always gets me😢.

True ending for selena, leaves the kid, goes to a swamp, dates a man with an Octopus beard just to pretend to love him while thinking about Jim
holy crap i didn't realize that was her!!
Is it just me or does this feel like the real ending and danny boyle just changed it last minute because people hated it
This ending is much more believable. In an apocalypse how are we supposed to believe Jim survives a gunshot wound like that? He shouldn’t.
At least seems that the other ending is canon since jim is going to appear in 28 years
