  • 👋 Today we install the MST Cold Air Intake for the 2022+ Toyota GR86/Subaru BRZ! This is a pretty easy and straight forward install that can add power and sound to your 2.4L engine! The MST intake comes with everything you need and spare parts too! The intake box itself if powder coated and already has the edge guard installed which is great!
    First start by disconnecting the negative side of the battery.
    To uninstall the OEM intake, there is a clamp by the throttle body, a tube next to the mass air flow sensor, and three bolts that hold the intake box in to the car. Once you remove that, time to put the new MST intake in!
    To install, I would start with the intake box itself, loosely install it so that you can work on everything else as well. Then you can work on the silicone tube that connects to the throttle body and the pipe that houses the mass air flow sensor. It's easy, but just takes some wiggling to get in place! Then it's time to install the air filter, which is also washable which is great!
    Last up, make sure everything is tight and secure, and the battery terminal is reattached!
    It's that easy to gain horsepower and a great sound for your boxer engine!!

    The silicone joiner is a step down design. Looks like at just before 6mins, the joiner is on in the wrong direction. But it’s corrected later in the vid. Did your kit come with the small rubber hose piece that goes on the end of right angle plastic oil breather connector?
    Performance wise, the intake air temps are the same as the stock airbox, I’m in Australia, so no carbon pad in the airbox. I felt performance is the same as standard, but the sound is so much better and louder so you can hear the motor on road. Standard air intake is too quiet to hear above 100kph, makes it hard to rev match when braking with the fake sound box switched off.
    Low rpm’s, the box can buzz on the bonnet a bit, especially with a 2000rpm rev match throttle stab. So I’ve added some foam padding between the radiator sill and bonnet to adsorb those vibrations.

    Perhaps the 86 has a lower center of gravity with the flat 4, compared to the Supra. The result could be better handling than that car.

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  11 месяцев назад +1

      It’s smaller for sure! I would say handles better but really hard to tell!

    Do these engines require tuning for mods like this, the same way the turbo engines do? EJ STi's for example can't have a single mod that affects air or fuel without a tune or it _will_ blow the engine, eventually. a cat-back exhaust or drop in panel filter are the only things you can do without a tune for those.. even a short ran intake, like this one would cause major problems for STi's. I'm not sure how the FA's are, especially N/A. I'd be curious to see a tuners thoughts with the car on a dyno.

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  11 месяцев назад +1

      A turbo doesn’t need a tune either, my brothers Supra is full bolt on, no tune yet and zero issues. This car doesn’t need a tune either. STI’s are just funky how they work!

    • @jakejohnson2389
      @jakejohnson2389 10 месяцев назад

      The Supra does not have a MAF so upgrading the intake does not matter. These Subaru motors tend to run lean typically when you add an intake with no tune. I can only speak for the Turbo model but I have a 2022 wrx as well which has an FA24 turbo and you cannot run it without a Cobb stage 1 tune at least.

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  10 месяцев назад

      @@jakejohnson2389 Yeah I’ve heard that for the turbo Subaru engines. But the 86 NA motor seems to run fine with no tune and the intake.

    • @BrokenAdam770
      @BrokenAdam770 11 месяцев назад

      @@BrosFOURRSpeed Don't you see those 3 lights on the GR86's rear bumper under the rear license plate? There are 2 white lights on each side and a red light in the middle. As usual, the white lights are the reverse lights and the red light in the middle is where the rear fog light would be at. In Europe, rear fog lights are mandatory for bad visibility in fog and in the rain, but some vehicles have one reverse light instead of two. Take the 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara for example. The 4 lights in the rear are normal such as the parking lights, brake lights and turn signals. However, the two lights are abnormal such as a white light on the passenger's side tail light and a red light on the driver's side tail light. Believe it or not, the red light on the driver's side tail light is the rear fog light! Same goes for the 2007 Subaru Impreza Hatchback. Am I right?

      I liked the video, please provide more.... I think it's a given that cai don't really provide any more power, however, I'm looking for that deeper sound that this provides. Plus, I like the idea of the bigger air box and straight line tube into the intake. Seems like a better design than stock and gives the deeper growl....I like it, thanks for the video!
