  • How to glaze a ceramic crucible using borax and a butane torch. How to season a whipping dish for pouring silver.
    I saw someone else use this method, but I can't remember who it was. If I can find out who it was, I'll link it below.

      You should do it! I know some Cooters that would be happy to help, and share some knowledge we've gained by doing it the hard way.

    I had no idea you had to "glaze" a crucible like that

    • @RockyMountainBear
      @RockyMountainBear  3 года назад +1

      Hey Capt'n! Yeah, you should see the first time I glazed a crucible. It was a disaster. Pardon my language, but it was the very definition of a shit show. I think it was the very first LiveStream on The Silver Cooters Channel.
      Yup! Here it is - ruclips.net/video/TBAP8pXbTxc/видео.html

    Can't you just go to the store and buy a ceramic coffee cup just break off the handles and use it instead

    • @RockyMountainBear
      @RockyMountainBear  2 года назад

      No, I wish. The clay/ceramic crucibles for melting silver, copper, & gold have a special mixture of sand & silica in it, so it can withstand the thermal shock of extreme temperature changes. Might be able to melt aluminum or zinc in a coffee mug, but even for that I'd recommend some sort of steel, or wrought-iron.
      Thanks for watching, and thanks for the question.
