Its a treat to watch you, Lucy. Your videos have provided so much sense of comfort during some very very difficult times. 'Cut my own bangs' was actually the video that introduced me to your channel. Thanks for creating this safe space.
Hi Loepsie, sorry for the long comment but I'm a nail tech and want to give advice on Gel polish for you or anyone who sees this. Nails should be first cleaned, shaped then lightly buffed with a primer applied prior to polish. Builder gel (Biab) is one of the trickier products to apply due to the thickness of the polish. It should be applied in two layers, the first a thin layer (sometimes referred to as a slip coat) this should be cured under a lamp for the recommended time then a second layer should be applied first as a bead of gel at the top of the nail near but not touching the cuticle (now this is the tricky part) guide the product using your bush as close to but not touching the cuticle then down the middle towards the free edge (end of your nail) then down either side to the free edge. Flip your hand upside down (so your palm is facing the ceiling) for a couple of seconds then back over again and cure this layer under the lamp, this allows the gel to level in a curved shape giving structure to the nail. Most nails techs will do this step one nail at a time to prevent gel seeping into the cuticle and side walls of the nail as direct contact of gel on skin can cause people to develop an allergy to all gel. Top coat is then applied and cuticle oil is usually added as a last step. There are lots of possible reasons that your gel manicure didn't last the two weeks is should the most common reason for this is user error but it could be the builder gel itself, I've never used this brand myself so I could say whether this is the case here or not. There are lots of amazing nail content creators here on RUclips who having amazing and helpful videos on applying builder gel and tips for lasting nails. Again sorry for the long comment. Thank you for another amazing video and some great hairstyle ideas.
I have the same issue about removing cuticles! My way to deal with it is to use nail oil on them every night (if I can) and then just gently push them back. They will be a lot less visible and the skin remains nice and “fresh” looking so they just disappear visually. It’s a bit annoying having another small thing to do daily but I recommend giving it a try if you can squeeze it in!
You going through your clip collection made me think of my mum. She had the same kind of container of little fun clips, I always enjoyed helping her pick out which ones to wear. I'm glad you're finding practical ways to take care of yourself and make things a little bit special.
Hey Loepsie. I've learned tons about nails watching a channel here on RUclips called The salon life - please have a look! She is a professional and shows her work on her own nails and clients while giving you all the tips you need. Cuticle is just the dry skin on the nail plate - you can scrape it off with a wooden stick or metal tool, using a cuticle remover will make it easier. It's such an easy process but I think a lot of people think that cuticle is the seal/fold at the base of your nail, that is important living skin and should be just gently pushed back, never removed. She has got tons of videos about nail shaping too. Another great channel is Bliss kiss - a lot of content about general nail care/polishing techniques.
Oh my god, I've been watching your videos for so long, haha. I've been here since the living with a room mate era back in Utrecht. Used to love your historical beauty videos at the time. Geez, I'm growing old, haha.
A lot of young moms go for a chin length bob hairstyle. I myself went for a wash and go pixie hairstyle. But chin length is perfect for baby not being so able to pull the hair. My hair is still so heavy at 67 that I must wear it short, to prevent migraines. And it looks best short so plus for me, up do styles just slide out no matter how many pins used and make my head hurt.
The good ol' mom cut! I couldn't go for it right now. My hair is still nice and full from pregnancy and it's only just grown out from the last time I got a bob, I would regret it so much! Besides, baby is so big he can reach my nose when nursing so it wouldn't help anyway, haha 😂
I have the same problem. I was 25 before I could figure out how to put my hair up without getting a migraine. A big plastic clip holding it in a coil worked best,or a long hair comb.
@@pheart2381 I used a round claw clip for a while, on top of my head with a loose Gibson girl style. But as I age and pain in my fingers made me just go short for comfort and ease.
I followed your rag curls video for my wedding, and it turned out beautifully! 👰 It looks like you have similar hair to mine which is baby-fine. I always make the joke that my hair never grew up 😅Love your videos, and congratulations on becoming a mom! 💕
When I was a baby in the mid-60s, my mom always wore her hair in a French twist... once the 70s rolled around, it was no longer fashionable so she generally wore it long and loose - and I was old enough not to pull on it ;) Incredibly, I still have some pink plastic hair fasteners (with a separate bar) and decorated bobby pins that I used to use back in the late 70s as a teen - some things just last forever, it seems!
Former nail tech here! Maybe give a nail curette a try? It looks like a little tiny melon baller 😅 it helps remove a lot of cuticle without having to use the cuticle nippers. Also using a buffer with a medium/coarse grit will help remove a little bit of cuticle. Make sure you buff/file the edges of the buffer before using it! If not, you can cut yourself! Same goes with new nail files. Hope this helps! 😊
Oh my gosh, the part, where you show the hair tutorial just gave me nostalgic flashbacks to 2011-2014 🥲😂 I didn't even realise anymore, how much I missed those haha 💔😂 Such nice memories! ☺
I'm definetely not a nail expert, but I also do my gel nails at home and my best tip as someone who doesn't touch their cuticles either is to not go all the way with the nail gel, leave a tiny line between your nail and skin (that will show anyways as your nail grows) so it doesn't peel off
If you want neater cuticles without doing a whole removal process here are some tips: 1) After you shower, you can use your towel to gently push back and rub around the cuticle. Your cuticles are most pliable when they're wet so this will help to exfoliate any dead skin and keep the cuticle from sticking to your nail plate. 2) CUTICLE OIL! You don't need a lot, just one drop per hand. Rub it in and around your cuticles at least 2 times a day (or as often as you can). Keeping the skin adequately moisturized will help prevent hangnails and makes a huge difference in keeping your cuticles looking neat and tidy. On that note... 3) Lotion. We often underestimate how often wash our hands through the day: while cooking, cleaning, gardening, etc. and all that washing dries your skin out. Keep a bottle of lotion near the sink and try to use it whenever you wash your hands. 4) If you do want to try a chemical exfoliant, my favorite is the Blue Cross Cuticle remover. I find it to be very gentle and moisturizing and it works amazingly well. It's a thin liquid so you just apply a few drops, let it soak in for 30 sec, gently push back your cuticles, and then wash your hands. Simple. I have been doing my own gel nails for years now and have found that a little cuticle care makes a huge difference. You don't have to be perfect with it, but even a little effort day to day will have an effect. Hope these tips help! Good luck ❤💅❤
I feel the decision anxiety over bangs/growing out further. I'm currently facing the same dilemma. As for your milkmaid braids, If you don't like the full part on the classic milkmaid braids, you could Dutch braid, cross the braids in back, and pin them up alongside your Dutch braided section. Even if it doesn't reach all the way up, the weight and pressure of the pinned up sections will be more evenly distributed that way. (Ar least that works for me).
Thinking about the fact that I cut my bangs (fringe) myself in the beginning of 2018 after following the tutorial on your channel and It's safe to say I'm never going back
I cut my bangs for years and overdirecting is the way to go :D Also Dazzle Dry is amazing for nail polish. It hold up way harder and can be remove with nail polish remover.
Loll!!! The same sock ❤❤ love it. You look very pretty with bangs! And I've also started doing my own nails to save money. For the cuticles, I do consider going for a manicure but only a super basic one to clean up and shape my nails. No gel or anything. It's hard to do it myself
When you mentioned the first bangs video, I thought "Oh right, that was maybe 7 years ago" so I was FLOORED when you said 11 😅 Loved the flashback moment ❤ AND THE SOCK BUN IS BACK?!?!?! 🙌 We are BLESSED
Love your videos! One of my go to updos is a dutch braided pigtails that I tie into a low bun at the base of my neck. It adds so much volume to my hair on flat hair days and lasts the entire day. You’ve maybe already tried it but I thought it might suit you as well. It can look classy, vintage, or fantasy depending on how you style it.
The best prep for gel nails is to wipe the nails with pure alcohol first. It stops them peeling. For normal nail varnish use pure acetone to wipe the nails, then straight on with the varnish without touching anything, including your hair.
When you use normal nail polish, do you use a base coat and top coat, as well as two coats of the polish itself (letting each coat dry before applying the next coat)? When I do that, I find it lasts me over a week. I also don’t usually remove my cuticles, but I will push them back and clean them up a little bit. Making sure you cover your entire nail with the polish, base and top coat, edges included, is key to that. I also can’t paint my nails right before bed or else they’ll get messed up. For the builder gel, my nail stylist always applies several coats, definitely apply more than two. At least five layers. She also applied some sort of base and top coat too, which always helps.
Thanks Lucy! your bangs look so pretty!! I love bangs with an updo too! I use Lily & Fox nail stickers. They have been a lifesaver and last a week or even longer. They are $2.99 per pack and I can get 2 manicures out of one set! yay!
The best tip for cuticles (because cutting and chemicals freak me out too) is Kerasal. I buy it on Amazon so I don’t think it’s hard to find. It works a treat on my feet, and the tiniest bit on your nails before bed helps moisturize and remove the cuticle that’s stuck to the nail plate. That way my cuticle never gets to the point where it needs to be cut.
For the cuticules i swear by the chemical type of remover ! I'm a professional hand model and i use de Essence one (it's only 2e), you're supposed to leave it for 1 minute but sometimes i forgot (it's more 10 minutes /oups), i wash my hands and i use a nail brush or an old toothbrush, i brush gently with a bit of soap and tadam ! Clean nails, clean cuticules ! It's doesn't hurt or burn, and it will only "eat" the dead skin :) (sorry english isn't my first langage!)
Hey Loepsie! I love your hair-related videos! Your hair is so beautiful and the bangs suit you so well! I myself just started growing out my bangs 2 months ago and I missed them already! Not sure if I should cut them again or not... Can't decide 😕
When you prepped your nails, did you buff the surface? It roughs up the surface a little to help the polish grab the nail better and last longer. If you did then it’s really weird they peeled off so quickly
When you do the milkmaids, can you cross them in the back so that the left goes around to the right and the right goes around to the left it would cover that part of the base of your neck,? They might not reach at the top, but maybe you could pin them on the top sides.
hahahaha I just went back to curtain bangs too !! I was bored of the long front pieces cus my hair was just one lenght and I missed having curly bangs that framed my face, so chop it off at the bathroom sink again hahahaha
Oh yes, nail prep is very important to get any manicure to last. Make sure to buff your nails to take away some of the shine and wipe them down with alcohol. This will get rid of any oils or dust on the nails and give the gel something to grip to.
Cuticle cutting isn't done here. It's not necessary, just pushing them and keeping your hands relatively moisturised is more than enough. RE the builder gel. Are you using a dehydrator and nail prep? Isopropyl alcohol is good and hopefully your kit came with a primer. And make sure you aren't getting any gel more than a mm from your skin. Thats what causes the peeling
Aren't there any superstitions about cutting hear when pregnant in Netherlands? For there are some in Russia (it is silly, of course but many postpone it till after birth).
Not trying to scare you at all. But with the gel do be very very careful, and if you get any on your skin clean it off right away. I developed an allergy to gel and it is horrible. I wonder if you're confusing your proximal fold with cuticle as a lot of people do. That shouldn't be cut. I just use a glass/crystal cuticle pusher and push mine back and that it's. I've learnt a lot about nail care from the RUclips channel Nail Career Education.

SAME
the debate of whether to cut your bangs again or not is so real 😂😂
I am trying to decide if I should bring back my bangs; I keep freezing up! What is it about cutting your hair into bangs?!🤣

I would never do gel in my nails ever again. It ruined them so badly, it took me one month to regrow healthy nails...
I hate how hair dressers always thin out my hair...I have no problem with it being puffy...thats how I like it.
