I have a question about your Taurus does the letters on the gear shift light up at night with the headlights on cause mine doesn't even have a light but there is a spot there to have it
This wasn’t my vehicle so I can’t say for sure. But, I think there should be a bulb in there. If it’s supposed to have a bulb in there you should see the wiring harness and socket next to the shifter.
Ford sells the shifter as one assembly. You could rig up any micro switch if you’d like. I just don’t know what brand or part number of switch ford used. So shifter it is.

I replaced my shifter but my car still doesnt read its in park 🤦🏾♂️ any ideas

Possibly. You’d have to access the shifter and check out that little micro switch.

Is this the same Taurus that had the bad water pump for $1400. How much does it cost to fix that shifter issue?
John Alexander yes it was. I think it was about $200 or so. I can’t remember.
What is the part called I can’t find it on the dealership website
It’s the shifter assembly or shift control assembly. I went to a Ford dealership and ordered it in person.
Where did you get the part ?
I had to get it from the Ford dealership. I don’t think there is an aftermarket option for the shifter.

It won’t start if it doesn’t think it’s in park. I would definitely check the switch on the shifter
Why can't one just replace the microswitch if the lever is part of the switch? Sorry it's just not very clear to me.
