Please, you absolutely MUST watch her live at Monterey Pops , Ball and Chain. She is PHENOMENAL in that. The soul she could pour out onto the stage was unmatchable. You’ll see!
Yeah‼️. Your first time hearing my girl Janis! She was all heart and soul, a very emotional singer. Another bright star that burned out too soon. I had the privilege and pleasure of seeing her the last time she performed at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco in 1969. She blew the doors off the place and left us all changed forever. Please, please, please do us and yourself a favor and react to her rendition of Ball and Chain done live at the Monterey Pop Festival. You will get the full flavor of her and the depth of her overflowing passion. Mama Cass from the Mamas and Papas was in the audience and the camera caught her personal reaction. Her version of Summertime and Me and Bobby McGee are epic and brings another side to her vocals. Thanks for making my day‼️
@@HAP3SPEAKZ One of the comments on ruclips.net/video/Qev-i9-VKlY/видео.html&ab_channel=JanisJoplinVEVO is a story about how that came about - she recorded it three days before she died.
no. her family was typical nuclear family and she had their support. She wrote alot to her sister. But, she was a square peg in a round hole in her town in Texas and was bullied in high school. She did not fit in and was laughed at for her weight and acne. She got hurt alot in her teen years. She sang in small venues around Austin while in college and did raw blues.
@@HAP3SPEAKZ , my parents went to her high school. They missed her by a few years, but they mist certainly knew who she was. A lovely girl. Never quite made it to "woman".
I was waiting for the look on your face when you first heard Janis, she was a real rocker in every sense of the word, my favourite of hers is, Me and Bobby Magee, unfortunately she passed at a young age. She indulged in the perils of Rock and Roll stardom and when you think this was in the late 60’s ,she was pretty radical for the time.🎼❤️🇦🇺❤️🇬🇧🕺🏻💃🎸☘️
Love Janis, she was one of a kind. Check out Ball and Chain from Monterey Pop. It's her best live performance and you can see her before the drugs took her over. I still have all of her albums.
OH MY , THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER BE ANOTHER JANIS JOPLIN!! R.I.P. MAYBE SHE WAS SPEAKING THROUGH THE COSMOS!!! STANGER THINGS HAVE HAPPENED. LOL! SHE DID SAY THERE WAS A WOMAN WAITING IN DETROIT! INTERESTING !! FANTASTIC REACTION, HAP, THE LOOK ON YOUR FACE PRICELESS!!💕💕💕🎶 great great song choice, John !
THE LYRICS ARE HAUNTING. SURPRISED ME TOO! 😮 CRY CRY BABY, I THINK SHE MEANT SIMPLY., COME HOME TO ME I'M THE ONLY SHOULDER YOU'LL NEED TO COMFORT YOU!
YES! Anything Janis. Piece of my Heart, Me and Bobby McGee are two of the more popular ones. Seeing her while she sings is a great thing. Imitated but never ever duplicated!
Nice reaction to a one-of-a-kind performer and person, too. Deni, your thoughts about the lyrics (she is the only shoulder he will ever need to cry on) is genius. Come home and cry, I will understand. She knew what it felt like to have a broken heart. Never thought of it that way and it makes PERFECT sense! I look forward to many more Janis Joplin reactions. 🤞 Thanks! 💞
I'm glad that you've listened to Janis' Joplin and come to the same conclusion - that new artists are reaching into Janis' repertoar and trying to imitate her unique style as I see it so often.. That unexplainable emotion we all feel in her voice came from her tormented soul, it takes a hard life, experience or sensitivity to come to that level of performing. Voice or stage moves imitation may be easy to do but true, honest, emotion.. that is much harder to achieve. She was one of a kind and among all covers out there I would always choose her, the original. And, I think, new performers should find their own path anyway, but that is just my opinion..
Wow! I read here, about her short life, and the trappings of the Rock N Roll life took its toll. Thanks for that comment, regarding tormented soul. Never thought of it that way. Hopefully I'll have the chance to explore in that case. When time permits.
@@HAP3SPEAKZ Yes, that's s big difference between her and some other singers (or posers, in some cases). She sang what she really felt, not to sound "cool". She meant what she sang and I believe her every time.
Sometimes new performers are “pushed” into a certain image and told what to sing. They are just a “commodity” to the music industry. One example is American Idol. One judge in particular would not take into account an amazing voice (Jennifer Hudson) but score lower and comment on their body. The Idol machine also dictates what album/image the winners will fulfill. Kelly Clarkson complied for a bit, then rebelled because what she wanted to do was Country Music. JOthers have the “looks” but not the talent - they are autotuned in the studio, then lipsynch to the recording while giving a “live” performance. Just examples that I know about. 🤷🏻♀️. Very sad what’s going on with music today. 🙁
I am a recent convert too. There are some great soul singers. But with Janice's songs, not only do you feel her Soul sometimes it feels like your own soul is being pulled out - in a good way. You just feel everything she is feeling.
The lesson you learn, Janis is Legendary, a unique soulful as one could get vocals that not many have ever been able to come near...she died way to young and has some great music in a short life. Enjoy exploring Janis's music. Me and Bobby McGee is my fav. dive down the rabbit hole and enjoy.
Awesome comments & reaction here Hap. Yes, her voice’s got lots of power&she sang it really like she meant it. I loved it 💛🎧👍🏼 Thanks John for the request!
Love your reaction Hap! Janis gets it done! No holds barred- being 16 and from a small town she scared me at first-😳. Then my admiration set in- maybe you could play- ‘Summertime’?
She was very popular in the 60’s - the Hippie era!! There was “Free Love”, drugs (esp LSD) advocated to “expand your mind”, bell bottoms, along hair, and World Peace ✌️ were big things. There were several artists that died of overdoses. The Beatles even had a song “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”..... translation: LSD. She was one artist I enjoyed listening to and bought her album. Enjoyed your reaction! I don’t believe she was calling her man a “Crybaby”, rather she was telling him to Cry, baby ...to her because she is always there for him - he can stop searching the world. Take Care Hap! 😊
Didn't listen to her a lot but always enjoyed her music. You'll probably know her song, "Mercedes Benz" from adverts, Hap. Thanks for your reaction and thanks also to John for requesting it. 👍
Yes,I have always said Joe is the Male version of Janis! Imagine they had a baby, and that child says,I really want to be a doctor when I grow up,and the rest of us say,Just SANGGGG!🎙🎶👊
If you like Janis you are gonna be amazed when you hear the second coming of Janis l Beth Hart Am I the one live a paradisio or Mama or la song the live performance actually any of her live performances you will not be disappointed but I warn you she is a fireball
She wants to know he is there for her. She does not want a tiny, little whimper tear. She wants a CRY!!!Where now they BOTH know they are there for each other. They both get it.
She wants him to humble himself as he has always expected her to do. She wants real emotion to show his sorrow for the way he has treated her, then to change his ways and be a good, loyal and faithful partner.
I wish that the onscreen lyrics were accurate, but at several points they are not (e.g., "the road DON'T end in"). On the other hand, she does articulate them clearly. Try her "Get It While You Can", "Summertime", "Kozmic Blues", "Codine", "Piece of My Heart" - enjoyed your comments.
Her live performance of this in Toronto in 1970 is great. The lyrics are just slightly different because she adds in a bit of storytelling that relates to the song part way through. She is definitely a performer who leaves everything on the stage. ruclips.net/video/xoNzemDsX1E/видео.html
She wasn't asking him to "be a cry baby", she wanted a glimmer of angst, raw emotion that showed he wanted to be hers, and her to be his one and only. Not him thinking roaming all over, would bring him fulfillment. But content in each other, but she needed to see he was sincere, knowing the torment and aching she is going through for him. Does he reciprocate?? If you feel it demonstrate it, is what she is singing about.
I 1st came across Janis Joplin, by way of Courtney Hadwin's AGT golden buzzer performance. Howie compared her to Janis. She is one of Courtney's idols.
Saw & met Janis at WOODSTOCK, she had just finished her set and sitting in a vey large speaker drinking southern comfort. Told her, “great set Janis” she replied in her Texas accent, “ Thanks sugar, Wampanoag sip? I hate southern comfort....but no fro Janis......gone too soon
I think he left her for another woman, the other woman left him and he went back to Janis. and Janis is singing that if he's coming back home, he's gonna have to cry like a baby.....I think 🤔
No there is not. Sorry just the truth. There’s not another female artist on the planet close to being as great as she was and absolutely none that can sound like her. I’m sorry but I’m just telling the truth. I believe that there are some artist that are so special and good that you just don’t mess with their music and Janis is one of them. No disrespect intended. Exactly, no one can touch her. Check out “Summertime” it’s well worth it.
Please, you absolutely MUST watch her live at Monterey Pops , Ball and Chain. She is PHENOMENAL in that. The soul she could pour out onto the stage was unmatchable. You’ll see!
Oh god yeah it's brilliant 👌👌
Janis is 100% pure, organic soul in human form
She's saying he can come cry his sadness and loneliness and heartbreak (from the other woman) to her.

Us oldies heard her, she was raised in a torn family, told her story and passed away far to young. She was shy in high school as I knew her then.

We wouldn't have rock and roll as we know it without Janis Joplin.
She died within months of Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison of The Doors....soundtrack of my life
