Just like what I put inside my body and it rejects or react within 20 mins the same apply when I use a new product on my hair. If it strips, dries or alter my hair in any way...that's an immediate sign for me it's a chemical reaction that's not suited for my hair.

    So my story…
I used to dye my hair blue black! I’m naturally a Sandy brown/red head and always hated it (now embracing it partially because of this😕😂). I usually would buy Dark & Lovely Midnight Blue from the hair stores, but for some reason I called myself wanting to try a new dye in hopes it doesn’t bleed or ware away as fast. I took my grandmother to one of her fav dollar stores, “Dollar General” and I seen this brand name, ‘Schwarzkopf Keratin Permanent Hair Color Cream Midnight Black 1.1’.
While I know dyes are chemicals and they do smell weird, but as you mentioned @Bri Hall in the ECO vid, it smelled like harsh ammonia. Straight up ammonia and it was STRONG! Guess what though, my dumb butt used it anyway. 🤦🏾‍♀️😒😞. Biggest regret because two weeks later my temples were thinning. Eventually became bald there. Took a LONG time to grow back. It grew back, but the hair there still ‘til this day doesn’t grow like the rest does it like it use to. It is like the hair has a stopping point. With it being a black dye, which is depositing colour vs taking out. I would not have thought this wouldn’t take my hair out. I was wrong. I hadnt had issues with any other dyes before and after.
I don’t think the product was fake, but I do believe it was old! That type of brand doesn’t get looked at in the area that store was which is predominately black. Usually more “ethnic brands” get used more frequently and are always stocked regularly.
Lastly, oddly enough it only affected my temples, which are sensitive, and made them super sore. During that time I wasn’t doing anything such as, stressing, taking meds, stressful hairstyles, changed my shampoo/conditioner/hair products etc… the dye was the only thing that was new to me at the time. So to avoid that I just stopped dying my hair altogether. I started using temp dyes, but it just don’t hit the same 😂. So now I embrace the red/brown 🙌🏾🔥

    • @SmartistaBeauty
      @SmartistaBeauty  2 года назад +7

I’m happy you told your story!! Even though many dyes do contain ammonia as an alkaline ph adjuster, and the product may be real, expired/old products are a hugggge issue! Especially when they look like a steal!

Bri!!!! Thank you for this video! This legit has me really thinking back to unfavorable hair product experiences and considering where I had got them and how they reacted with my hair and scalp and how previously some worked fine but then didn't. It's crazy to think that the counterfeits are out there literally messing with people's hair/skin/body etc and no remorse nor consequences in sight about it all. This is both infuriating and deeply concerning. Granted I love to DIY and buy most of my products direct via the makers when I buy formulated products. But now I’m like only the Lord can guide when I hop to a store of any kind that I actually will walk away with a real product and it not be fake. Whew.

Thank you so much for this very timely video!! I've been a BoxyCharm subscriber for almost a year (literally canceled in the middle of watching your video 😅). But I remember a flag when I was first considering signing up for BoxyCharm, wondering what's happening on the backend for them to be able to offer full-size products (that's what they hype up the most for the premium box) but for less than $40 a month (the math wasn't mathing). It just wasn't clicking why they can offer these full size products and several at a time for cheaper than what you can find in Sephora or Ulta or even directly from a brand. I still had the packaging left from some products I received in my boxes and compared them to the brand websites' product lists and there were new ingredients, some were missing or some had shifted to a higher spot in the list. Needless to say...I've received several counterfeit products in their boxes for brands like Farsáli, Frank Body, Glow Recipe and ABH. So again, thank you for this, it was SUPER informative. Bri!!! First thank you for the video because WHEW!!While you were talking my daughter and I started looking in the house and let me tell you! We found counterfeit hair setting lotion, hand sanitizer, moisturizing product, skin products and body wash products! We bought these items at a Major retailer! We still had like a little bit of each of these products left so we had the original bottles and compared and let me tell you I was drove! My son had an allergic reaction whereas his whole face broke out ,lips too using the moisturizer enough where we had to visit a dermatologist due to the burn marks and I thought " Oh it was a bad batch" as well, the body soap broke my grandson out and scarred his stomach from the irritation .So freaking over these counterfeits, people are seriously being injured for money! I remember one lady in particular coming into a salon as a buying agent to get the stylist hair products. The stylist laid into her because I suffered burns in my hair and her mom from the so called professional products. She actually call the police and made a report of fraudulent products being sold and sent the police to the address of the lady, but she wasn't there, the address was phony. She did get caught trying to sell products to one of my stylist friends at her shop in another city under another name.

I also think people buying anything on social media are just silly. I got GOT 1 time and that was more than enough for me.

Can't stop commenting. Bought a pack of Pepperidge Farm cookies this week. It was sealed. Comes in sets of 4 paper holders with four cookies each. Had only two paper holders and in one, two cookies were bitten into. This was a SEALED bag of Montauk cookies!! Buyer beware.

this was so eye opening. you really have to be careful with beauty supply products not only bc of counterfeits but a lot of products that are on the shelves are expired🙄… i bought a cowash that i’ve ordered from camille rose naturals site directly but i didn’t feel like waiting so i went to the beauty supply for the item and chileeeeee when i got home to use it, it smelled like play dough and the consistency was weird😵‍💫

Wow! You learn something everyday! Ugh I swear money is the root of all evil! How can ppl consciously do something with rat droppings in a product. But with all this being said, is this a wake up call that we should maybe stick to one or a couple of products that we use. AND maybe we should only buy from small businesses where they make products from their kitchen. I don’t know my brain is going off right now lol none the less, THIS was an awesome video. I love when you do your informative videos! You’re so smart Bri 🤓 please please keep coming out with whatever content you think will help us. It’s obvious we need it. We are listening 👂🏽

but then with the whole bottom line controlling the outcome and putting our health on the line we literally can't really trust anyone. Especially when they will consistently only get a slap on the wrist. Thanks for this Bri. But save us all is so right. Even a legitimate item or product can be placed with harmful ingredients so like we can't win

Amazon has sketchy hair product vendors as well! Some packages would be delivered already opened or safety seal removed, half empty.
I always check the storefront info as well as the reviews now.
I’ve even seen counterfeit health supplements on Amazon when trying to buy azo and vitamin c. It’s ridiculous

This was such an awesome and well put together video!
I remember back when I first started college, my mom and I were in the BSS, and I was looking at some of the products (wasn't intending to buy any but I just wanted to look and see what they had), my mom randomly commented out loud "be careful, these people be mixing products and putting it on the shelf." It was something like that, I don't quite remember verbatim. Now when she said that I started looking around like "what!?!" Now mind you it didn't sound impossible, but it did sound crazy. Years and years later, I bought some gorilla snot from the BSS, and I'm telling you what I know the product to be because I used it for years and what I bought from the BSS?? 2 different things!!!!!!

I had that experience too with the Eco gel. It made my eyes water and made them sensitive especially when I used heat from a dryer. It seems to give off fumes when it heats up. But companies are problematic too and need to make products accessible to thwart counterfeiters. The exclusivity model doesn't work anymore.

This is crazy I had no idea the extent of how far this epidemic is going. Thank you so much for the research you have done, it has really opened my eyes and I will be more observing when buying products even more now.

Man this is sad. People tend to order online to save money and to avoid needing to use transportation if they dont have the gas money, a vehicle or dont want to use public transportation. This hards the most at risk populations, the poor, disenfranchised and possibly disabled.
