Had an issue with my S40 (2006) that I used to own with its sunroof - it has drain tubes that go next to the windshield and they disconnected from the next pipe - all the water went under the floor. I found that out only when I noticed moisture smell and damp floor mats. Thankfully no electronics were harmed, but that was a hell of a job to deal with all the water under the floor. I recommend the users of Volvo checking out sunroof drains as well.
If you have water on the top of the carpets, you will almost definitely have loads of water in the inches thick underlay under them... I unclipped the side trim and pulled up the rear seat after the rear carpet got wet on the passenger side and got my hand under it, and it was absolutely thick with water, with water also pooling underneath on the metal floor pan... the only effective way to dry this out is to remove the rear seat base, side trim, unbolt front seats, and centre console and completely remove the carpet, which is in 3 pieces- drivers side front, passenger side front, and one piece that straddles the transmission tunnel and does both rear footwells... I tried squeezing out the passenger rear footwell carpet repeatedly after partially removing it in-situ but after syphoning of loads of bottles of water with my MitiVac hand pump, and it wasn't stopping, I gave up and had to remove it. It is an absolute pig to dry out, going to have to get the windscreen changed on my insurance policy (National Windscreens - I am in the UK) are fitting a new one in a couple of days), then dry the carpets with a dehumidifier and heater over a couple of days before they get refitted. Also, I have the sound of water running side to side when cornering, it sounds like it is behind the dash. After removing the wipers and the plastic trim under them, the scuttle panel drains from under the bonnet/ hood seem clear, I can run wire right through and out under the car... so the water must be in some sort of channel under/behind the dash itself... it is still making the sloshing/ running sound with the carpets out, so it is not in the footwells... going to be difficult to find, I might have to remove parts of the dash to find it... Anyone know where this water may be? Don't want rust and electrical issues with the dash instruments...
Auto glass did not want to know when I called them and asked about reseal. They said take it to garage. Garage recommend Volvo as had this issue along with heater cutting out after a minute which they fixed by luck than judgement after opening dash.
I have this issue. Its not as tragic as yours but the problem started to occur last year. The water began to accumulate in the ceiling light cluster and drip when I was turning. I have bought a rubber seal on one of the Asian websites and the problem stopped. But I know this isn't a resolved issue and Volvo uk should recall the cars and resolve the problem properly. Please keep us updated on this case
No i don't have a sun roof. Sadly. Butyl tape has done the business. It is used today to seal glass to metal or plastic to metal (in headlights) it worked in my case. I am not planing to reseal it unless the glass would get physically damaged (chipped or shattered) @@andrewnevermind4902
We have just found out our s60 on a 16 plate is full of water in every foot well and where the spare is in the boot is like a little pond we had no idea took car into garage as key fob stopped working and have been told its the receiver in the car now car less till they find how the water is getting in .
Need to get mats dried out properly ASAP or they will start to stink. Wet vacuum is great help to suck out of carpets plus a dehumidifier at this time of year. I've had leaks on 2 other non Volvo's, Inc 3 year old 5 series.
You could do with a cover over the car while you wait to get it sorted . :( oh crap I just mentioned the cover and I heard you say the same thing. Hope you get it sorted real soon it would be a shame to see this car die.
I’ve recently noticed a water sloshing noise on my 2007 Volvo S80 so I’ll defiantly do these checks I’m also having an intermittent “reduced engine power” fault which tends to go away after the car has been turned off. My initial thought was that water could be getting into the electrics, so I’ll be removing the ECM & TCM this weekend to inspect & clean the connections
I have a 2008 S40 Volvo and appear to have this issue, pool of water in the driver footwell. Windscreen frozen on the inside, got Paul rugby looking into diagnosing problem this Friday at a charge of £110 before they do anything. Mentioned to them I was wondering if the windscreen needed revealing. Any idea on costs, this video suggests getting money back off Volvo fo4 a design and safety fault. Might mention it to Paul Rigby when I go in on Friday. Thanks
Hi Justin, I had a nightmare gettinga dealer to reseal it, they broke the screen and tried to charge me over £800 to fix it! Volvo UK weren't interested in helping at that point. I would suggest if your windscreen is damaged kr becomes damaged claiming a new one on your insurance if you have windscreen cover as the excess is usually under £100 and it doesn't effect you no claims bonus!
@@drivelife.channel so bill comes in at £108 to diagnose issue as leaky front windscreen and interior damage with damp as a result. Want £357 for the reseal of windscreen finding anyone else to do this is impossible no one will touch it including my insurers autoglass recommendation as it’s a reseal only. They want another £624 to strip everything out and dry it all out. Going to Volvo UK they don’t want to know, so going to have to try and put a claim in on my insurance. What’s more they only guarantee the work for 12 months!!! How you getting on since you had the new windscreen?
To add, I was looking at replacing the car in a couple of years time when my pension comes in was looking at a new Volvo electric car but this has really put me off Volvo now. Any other car recommendations, something like a XC60 Recharge.
I had this problem on my 2009 V70. I put a bead of clear silicone window sealant across the top seal from side to side and down the side a bit and pressed in. Cleaned the excess off the glass with a razor blade. Problem solved. Cost me less than $10.00. It's been over a year and through many heavy Tennessee thunderstorm downpours. Before this even during a slight rain it leaked.
Windscreen definitely adds structural strength even though it's just glass. Needs fixing asap, decent company would do that for 100 quid more or less, before it starts to smell and once it reaches that point it'll be carpets out time.
I’ve got Autoglass coming to remove & re-seal mine on Tuesday. Just over £200 for the job, but it’ll hopefully save me time drying out the inside and worry about further leaks for a while and - perhaps more importantly - it’ll preserve more of the car’s value?
Update - Tuesday came, Autoglass texted me to say Tech would be with me during the morning. Then got a call asking about the exact model so they could get the right screen in case mine broke during removal. Bit odd, after saying they were on their way! They then cancelled the appointment and wanted me to pay a further £300+ for the new screen and re-book for 2 to 3 weeks time. Told them that wasn’t good enough, having waited since 30 Dec, and they haven’t got back to me, even though I chased them. I thought they were better than that ... Asking for refund from AG and I now have the car booked in with Marshall’s of M Keynes next Weds, after contacting Volvo UK. Having seen DL’s update and nightmare with Listers, though, I’m not filled with huge optimism, 🤔 And, while I wait, the car is filling with water ... ☔️ (another mopping up session tomorrow)

How much would resealing a windscreen cost? I've just had this happen to me today while I was pressing the windscreen to install a dashcam mount. In the end I couldn't wait any longer and found a local company who replaced whole screen for £240. Less than half the price autoglass wanted !
As I've already noted, I had major leak on a 3 year old 5 series. That was where water had nowhere to go to at front of bulkhead, except to seep through large grommet into cabin.
