It would take maybe 1 or 2 hours to drive up every street in Laurel Canyon, like you mention its really small. I much prefer to walk it. People you come across are unbelievably nice.

Really cool to check out these tours of 60's and 70's musical haunts. Today in Pittsburgh is cold where all the leaves are brown and the sky is gray; it's nice to see the sunshine in your videos!😎

Your videos are awesome guys.I'm 44 and so can only imagine what the energy must have been like in 1960s Laurel Canyon, although I can get a taste from the music. What a time for the world and what incredible songs. Those sounds will live on forever in the hearts of everyone.Amazing. I live in the UK and would love to visit one day. Keep it up and I've just subscribed.

When you walk up there, especially in the Kirkwood part of the canyon, its still retains a lot of the 60's look with the houses. The people up there are still pretty cool and have a real community state of mind I would say. Cheers!

These little tours have been awesome! As a college/university student from Australia it’s obviously difficult to gain this kind of perspective of what’s such a creative and historic community. Been a big fan of all of these groups & artists for the last few years and I almost forget some of them were real people, as opposed to mythological icons, until I see things like this. Definitely hope to visit this place soon.
    Kind regards,
    Will

I think you hit it on the head. When we walk past these houses in person it makes you realize that these folks were once struggling artists! Although a lot of the houses have been seriously remodeled, some are still original in the area and are little more than cottages. The area still has a vibe that you feel nowhere else in Los Angeles. Cheers.

To be honest i always imagined these places to be more picturesque, but its all a little run down and the view which i thought would be stunning reminded me of looking at Portsmouth UK from Portsdown Hill which is above it......very interesting though so thank you

    • @RockessentialTim
      @RockessentialTim  4 года назад +2

I think the houses that haven't been replaced are more than a little run down. Those Artists moved there back in the day cuz it was cheap and they had no money at first. But as far as the views go, I guess you have to see them in person. The view from the Chris Hillman part of the walk is one of the best in the city. I've only been to Portsmouth once and I remember it as being fairly stunning. Then again, anything older than 100 years is unbelievable to us Yanks!

Tim ........Madelia Avenue is near you in Sherman Oaks. In the 60s Leon Russell lived here in a home nicknamed The Plantation. A song he called "Shootout on the Plantation" and "Thorn tree in the Garden" by the Dominoes" were written here as well as others. Delaney and Bonnie lived across the street and Bobby Whitlock lived a few houses down. James Olmos also lived a few doors away. This could make for an intriguing walk.....and film!

Hiking4Life It was pretty dramatic indeed. I was about 16 at the time. We had to very suddenly evacuate within minutes. Miraculously, our house survived although there was damage and we were out of the house for about a year. And in keeping with your theme, there’s even a little rock ‘n’ roll history element there. At the time I was a student at Fairfax High and I recall Anthony Kiedis, who was in Play Production with me, asking me tons of questions about my experience.

I wish that someday someone can film inside the Arthur Lee house so we can compare it to footage shot in the trip and in the live promo video for “Your Mind And We Belong Together.” There was a pool in the center of it even though it is a small house.

The day after we shot we went back in the area to film B-roll. We talked at length to a neighbor who lived in the area near the Jim Ladd house. (She declined to be on camera) She told us she had visited the house on many occasions and that it indeed had the pool.

Are there any current well known singers or bands living in Laurel Cyn. these days?
Or actually, is there any singers from the 1960's still up there as far as you know? I guess they would be up in their 70's in age now.

There are a few younger ones there. I know that St. Vincent as she is known, lives there and so does Jesse McCartney. Joni Mitchell doesn't live there any longer but she still owns the house on Lookout.

Don't know those singers that live there now. I'm not too much up on the rock singers now. Still listen and follow curent folk or folk rock music/musicians and a bit of country. I loved the rock music of the 1960's and 1970's and some 1980's but none of the rock music of today.
I wonder if Joni still goes to visit her Laurel Canyon house anymore and if that green open window she was pictured in is still there and looks the same? I think she lives out in the Brentwood area now.

You should cover the Nicholas Beach late 60s era for the filmmakers who lived on the beach out there--at one time it was the center of the universe, spielberg, Coppolla, lucas, scorcese, so many others... I lived up at County Line just above Neptune's Net in that far out neighborhood just north of Nicholas Beach. such an amazing place.
