Thank you for giving time to Dusty, my all-time fave singer. She was a household name in the UK, with numerous hits and a couple TV shows (the Beatles were amongst her all-star guests). You mention Elton and Kiki Dee. Elton had wanted Dusty on his Rocket label. And Kiki Dee was one of Dusty's backing singers in the mid '60s. Dusty's perfectionism made life difficult for her (though not credited, apparently she did a lot of the producing of her records. Musician said she really understood music). The Pet Shop Boys said that when recording under their auspices some lines were done word by word. Also worth noting that despite their public image the Monkees - whose albums spent more time at #1 than anyone else in '67 - were considered cool by other musicians. Micky Dolenz seemed to spend a lot of time in London, so the Beatles, Hendrix etc. were all his pals. His former wife, Samantha Just (RIP) was a top UK model alongside the likes of Patti Boyd and Chrisse Shrimpton.

the Stones had their English tour manager staying with them there named Sam Cutler. He had the Altamont connection. He also was the one that got the band out of there when shit started going crazy. Sam has a great book called You Can't Always Get What You Want where he describes what it was like then. He met the Grateful Dead at Altamont and would start tour managing them.
I saw Dusty Springfield in concert at the Greek Theater in L.A. (with Peter Allen). I remember looking through my binoculars at her on the stage, and between songs she was talking to someone and seemed very confused. Also check out her appearance on the "Dating Game" here on You Tube
Nice and sunny. Much nicer. My brother Tony Okus stayed in Still house and my buddy Bill McPherson who played sax with Buddy Miles told me he was always hanging out with Peter Tork in the late 60s. Finally saw the infamous Laurel Canyon.

Great tour! Dusty Springfield is buried just up the road from where I live in Henley, England (famous for the annual boat race) Her grave is in the local church on the High Street next to the river Thames. She made Henley her home for the last years of her life.
Right , half of the ashes are at the church in your Henley and some brother Tom took to the Cliffs of Moher , Ireland. Her parents were Irish decent so she always said she was a Celt. So half of her ashes in Ireland . To acknowledge her( British)part and fans half were deposited in Henley. She had things right I think.
Very informative. Wow Dusty Springfield would have been great at those songs. Not taking anything away from the ones who did do them. Kinda sad in a way. Didn't know she was English. Learning a lot here. +1 Subcriber ❤
Hi from Norway and thank you for those lovely videos. I was wondering what the vibe is like nowadays in Laurel Canyon ?? is there any "freaks" or musicians left ?? what kind of people lives there today ??
That's a great question. Unfortunately there are very few young people now in this area. Los Angeles has gotten to be a very expensive city and most artists have moved on to places like Portland or Nashville so they can live within their means. Laurel Canyon existed as it was because it was a very cheap place near Hollywood and now there is nothing there that is affordable. That said, it is still home to some eccentric characters, they are just old like me!

Thank you. I am blessed to live in the Laurel Canyon area. It ain't what it used to be but what is, right?
@@RockessentialTim Well I guess that's true, sadly. I've been reading too much into these conspiracies that swirl around that mountain, lately. Where a lot of great musicians were involved in satanic cults and such. I really hope a lot of that crap isn't true
As the great Marvin Gaye once said, "They say believe half of what you see, some and none of what you hear."
@@RockessentialTim What a wise man :) I think that's the only way to sane that's for sure. Cheers!!
From Argentina thanks for sharing a place with so much rock and movie history.I've read a lot about it but seeing is different.
There is a definite vibe when walking through the hills of Laurel Canyon. Echoes in the Canyon I suppose.
Thanks
Great fun video history of rock n roll .......
Thank you much!
I love and appreciate all of your videos ,
thank you so much for posting....
Thank you and its been my absolute pleasure and duty to do so.
I really enjoyed all 5 tour episodes about many of my favorite rock stars. Thanks!
Thank you. If this Covid mess is ever over I've got a couple more I'd like to add. Peace out.
I have been enjoying these videos! I’ve only been to LA once and I did not make it up to the Canyon. But these videos make me really want to get out west and explore these historic places! Please keep posting ✌🏽
We have a couple cool ideas, its just a matter of when we can do them with Covid going on. Thanks for watching.
Great 🎶 music! Loved it! I know you wrote it all, Awesome 😎
Aw shucks. It is one of the real delights of making these videos!
the Stones had their English tour manager staying with them there named Sam Cutler. He had the Altamont connection. He also was the one that got the band out of there when shit started going crazy. Sam has a great book called You Can't Always Get What You Want where he describes what it was like then. He met the Grateful Dead at Altamont and would start tour managing them.
I pride myself on knowing a lot of this kinda stuff but I must confess that I did not know that. I will check it out, thanks!
@@RockessentialTim You'd love his book.
I saw Dusty Springfield in concert at the Greek Theater in L.A. (with Peter Allen). I remember looking through my binoculars at her on the stage, and between songs she was talking to someone and seemed very confused. Also check out her appearance on the "Dating Game" here on You Tube
Interesting...
Nice and sunny. Much nicer. My brother Tony Okus stayed in Still house and my buddy Bill McPherson who played sax with Buddy Miles told me he was always hanging out with Peter Tork in the late 60s. Finally saw the infamous Laurel Canyon.
That is too cool! I hike in Wilacre Park above it and see the house from afar almost every week but I would have truly loved to hang out there once.
Your really great tim, keep them coming, you sure can tell a story
Thanx much. My wife sez I love the sound of my own voice. I just say I found someone who agrees with everything I say.
Fantastic!!!
Many thanks!
These videos are awesome!!!!!
Thank you. They are an absolute pleasure to make!
Thank you great tour
Thanks again!
thanks for sharing even during a pandemic!
You are welcome. I usually like to do these tours with a friend and am looking forward to that after this mess is over and its safe. Thanks for watching.

Thanks again, man. Appreciated.
New suscriber! I LOVE the Laurel Canyon videos.
Thanks for subbing and thanks for the kind compliment.
These videos are so cool. I am from Canada, never been to LA but it looks so interesting! Thanks for the tours.
LA is like every other city in some ways, There's more good than bad and lots of beauty if you look for it.
You are my favorite. A pleasure to listen. I wish i could visit Laurel Canyon but it is so far away from me. I am a huge The Doors fan. I have Jim close to my home and i can visit his grave anytime i want. Salut. :P
Thanks again. Me too, love The Doors. Hopefully we'll be able to get to Paris in the next couple years.
Awesome video and channel! Great job. You do an excellent job narrating your adventures. Subscribed to the channel. Crow✌️
Thank you very much. Am looking forward to checking your stuff out as well.
Nice to see Dusty's house.

Hey Tim...get to meet you. I have never been to Laurel Canyon but have it on my list of to see. I love all the history! Thanks for sharing
Your welcome. I checked out your channel, very cool!
@@RockessentialTim Thank you so much!
Thank you ever so much for posting ! Huuuuuge fan of Dusty Springfield...such a phenomenal artist...missing her still today .,
I don't even know how its possible, but I think she is underrated in the annuls of all time greatest singers.
Your videos are awesome. Well put together and not a boring second. Love it, from Southern Illinois
Thanks, man! We have a new one coming out later today about LA neighborhood walks. Love Urbana.
I WISH TORK AND STILLS WOULD HAVE MADE JUST 1 ALBUM TOGETHER...... GREAT VOICES GREAT MUSICIANS
No kidding, right? Have you seen the Steven Stills/Hendrix one?
very interesting well done
Thank you much!
Love these videos 😀. Ringo is a very underrated drummer 👍👍 an yeah! keep rockin’
re Ringo: And he was only in the most popular band ever. He was just so sublime. Cool.
@@RockessentialTim yeah: just a lot... quite witty too :-)
And just another interesting little tidbit-- Ringo is left-handed but plays on a right-handed drum kit. I think that may somehow contribute to his unique style.
Great tour!
Dusty Springfield is buried just up the road from where I live in Henley, England (famous for the annual boat race) Her grave is in the local church on the High Street next to the river Thames. She made Henley her home for the last years of her life.
She is sooo great. Hoping that she will never be forgotten.
Rick Nelson lived over there as well, right on LCB...
Very informative. Wow Dusty Springfield would have been great at those songs. Not taking anything away from the ones who did do them. Kinda sad in a way. Didn't know she was English. Learning a lot here. +1 Subcriber ❤
Thanks and thanks for the sub!
I’ve enjoyed ALL your videos. I’ve watched them over and over
Would you know where Dan Fogelberg’s place was in 80’s? Another great artist. Thank you!
Thank you kindly. As far as Fogelberg's place, I don't know, I always assumed he lived in Colorado? Cool...
@@RockessentialTim this was prior to Colorado. Henry Diltz lived in Laurel Canyon and his wife admired Fogelberg’s music She heard it through her windows so they were neighbors at some point
So glad I found these man - subbed. Hey y'know that Springfield house sure reminds of scenes in the 2004 Ray Charles film 'Ray'. Especially the front garden, driveway and fence...?
Cool and thanks for the sub. I think the Ray house is in Baldwin Hills about 8 miles away. A lot of mid century modern architecture over there that was built in the early sixties too.
Love these videos. Great homework as I'm working on a Laurel Canyon dj mixtape. Tim - do you have any videos dedicated to Gene Clark? Been listening to No Other flat out
Such a great album. I do not have anything on Gene other than the Byrds vids in our Library where I go to his old street in Laurel Canyon. Thanks for watching!
These are great! I'm a songwriter by trade and a student of the time and they even sell my book in the Canyon Country Store:)
I am going to have to check it out. What is the book called?
@@RockessentialTim - The Journey of a Song 60s & 70s. Hope you'll get a copy and I'd love to know what you think:))
@@RockessentialTim - I gave one to Richie Furay and he sent me a note that he loved it.:))
hi Tim , Love your channel and just subscribed . I live down the street here in Northeast Pa.from Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey house . Their Dad was the music director in our high school . Great Vids man ...
Thanks much. What I remember about those guys is that their show was Elvis' first TV appearance. Six degrees of separation....
Would be good to do a piece on the great producer and singer Terry Melcher. Rog. Pacific sunset records.
