  • Leroy Phudd Jr. stops by to discuss the new Savage 110 FCP that has been pimped and prepped for the Sniper's Hide Challenge as part of the Precision Rifle Series coming this summer in Colorado. Sorry we didn't get more footage of the actual build, but it's a nice looking rifle that we thought you'd like to check out. Enjoy.

    Congrats Sir, she's a gorgeous weapon. I too run Savage actions with McGowen pipes and a-3 furniture. I must say it's refreshing to see another lrp shooter who names his rifles. Of course my 30.06 is named Carlos and my 300 Win. Mag. Is named Kyle. Rock on man!

    Back in 2004 I ordered a Savage 10 FL in .308, I decided to order a set of Ken Farrell bases (10 moa), I always had superb luck with Leupold rings. I added a 6.5x20-50 LR/T Leupold scope with the varmint reticle. The barrel on the stock rifle was capable of shooting a .13" 3 shot groups, I still have the barrel, but I wanted a few more "upgrades", I sent the rifle to Fred at SSS, I asked him to first Time and True the action, replace the accutrigger with the competition trigger, he flutted the bolt, I added a McMillan 26" SS competition barrel in 6.5x47Lapua and had Fred thread the barrel and add his muzzle brake. I also added a Choate Ultimate Varmint stock and Harris Bipods ( different lengths) I painted the stock in military camo stencils. I shoot this wonderful cal and have reloaded for many years.. It shoots beyond 1000yrds better than I have a right to expect, I love it and even though I'm getting old but it will never leave my collection..... I have a pic or two on my home page.

    That is a 10 FCP, not a 110. 10's are short action, 110 are long action. Every thing is good to go other than scope height.

      A lot of guys like running them up there like that up high.

    • @davkenrem
      @davkenrem 7 лет назад +4

      Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. That is an AR mount not a bolt action. He wouldn't need all that cheek rest if put down low where it is supposed to be. It will also affect his height over bore and elevation settings. Scope mounted that high is gonna run out of elevation at very long range.

    • @stngcrazy
      @stngcrazy 7 лет назад +2

      That scope is definitely too high... and that is a 10 not a 110.

    • @caseyjoanz
      @caseyjoanz 6 лет назад

      davkenrem - He could lower it, but how much, realistically, 3/4”? He’d still need a cheek rest. My Howa looks like that. I bought new rings to go from high to medium, but they’re still in the drawer. It’s so accurate, and I’m comfortable with it mounted; I don’t see what I’d gain. People have preferences, and people disagree, but what would really be cool would be to get different points of view without someone jumping in to hurl an insult. While gun ownership modification may be an adult past time, and I can respect those who might disagree with me: a grown man who’s still acting silly to get attention ...I have no counter-insult, I just shake my head in disbelief.

    • @caseyjoanz
      @caseyjoanz 6 лет назад

      chocoloco654 -You’re right, that’s an offset mount; I missed that myself. I inherited a pre-64 Win. Model 70 with a Weaver 2.5x and replaced it, first, with a 3-9x52mm Redfield. That big objective lens had me replacing the standard mount with a 20moa rail. If I had it to do again, I’d go with a 6.5-20x44mm Leupold and keep the original mount. But I think it’s the proliferation of huge objectives and scoping ARs that has shooters running such high mounts. It’d only improve my Howa to put on the lower rings and re-zero, but it shot so sweet when I set it up that day. I should but I probably won’t.

    I buy Savage over Remington any day. Seems that Remington has not fully corrected their trigger issues thus far. Just the other day a club member chambered a round on his Remington .308, and the gun went off on its own. We follow safety rules and good thing the rifle was pointing down range.....Canada

      Was it an older Remington? I've been working with them for years and never really had a situation like that with them. Then again, I'm using Gov. contracted Rem rifles so I dunno.

    I bought one not long ago. I’m planning to do the 1000 yard challenge or 1000 yards milk jug challenge. Then I’m going out to a mile. I have a Savage with a beautiful bolt and the action is smooth as ice. I have a heavy barrel that is threaded. I’m going to add a Vortex Optic that will get me out to a mile. Check out the National African American Gun Association. I’m looking at reloading my own ammunition. Im planning to join the tour as well

      ***** He is using a mount meant for flat top AR15/AR10. It is WAAAY too high!
      On my Savage 10 FCP I have LOW Seekins rings on my 6-24x50mm Bushnell Tactical Elite G2. I still have at least .5" between my barrel and my scope objective. You should never use that type of scope mount on a bolt gun like that.
      I looked at that MOA EBR2-C reticle and Vortex scope. I am glad I did NOT buy one. The miliradian turret and G2 reticle are far superior, especially for hold overs in competition. Mot to totally discount Vortex, the MRAD PST with the EBR-2C Reticle (MRAD) is quite nice. The reticle is very much like my G2. "Christmas tree" reticles are really the easiest and best IMO...even over the more busy Horus reticles. But go MRAD and never look back!
      I like the paint job. The gun is shooting some decent groups. You dont need to send a Savage to a gunsmith to get it to shoot great groups.
      I LOVE my Savage! It shoots .33" groups with Federal GMM 168gr ammo.

      Sam Harless hey dumbass. Why on earth do you think scope height matters?.

    • @samharless293
      @samharless293 7 лет назад

      having a scope closer to the bore makes it seem like the bullet shoots at a flatter trajectory and so you can obtain a proper cheek weld behind the scope
